Vampire Dormitory is getting an anime adaptation, coming in 2024.

Synopsis

Mito Yamamoto is a beautiful man, so much so that women swarm the restaurant he works at daily. When the restaurant owner decides that he has had enough, he fires Mito, leaving him unemployed and with no place to call home.

Soon after, Mito happens upon a cafe and receives a cut on the hand from broken glass. A strange man named Ruka Saotome takes Mito aside to presumably tend to the injury, but instead, he licks away Mito's blood, remarking that it tastes disgusting before asking Mito to leave. Later that night, Mito accidentally slips off the roof of a building and is caught by Ruka, who reveals himself to be a vampire.

Ruka explains that a man's blood tastes disgusting, and the blood of someone unloved has an even worse flavor. However, Ruka cannot drink from girls, so he has been looking for a beautiful boy to become his thrall. He proposes that Mito fill this role and that he allow Ruka's affections to "ripen" his blood. Mito accepts and begins living with Ruka in the Hijirigaoka Boys' Academy dormitory. However, there is just one problem in all this: Mito is actually a girl!

Pretty dramatic start with our lead about to commit suicide, hurtling to their death, only to get saved by a vampire who immediately grabs a bite on their neck .

It's not easy having Pretty Shojo boy looks! Especially when you're homeless and in need of a job, and your good looks are even enough to get you fired. And that's not even getting into how you lost your parents in a mysterious fire and your own relatives wanted nothing to do with you .

But for Mito (Kana Ichinose), fate takes a turn when he stumbles into a cafe in a hunger-fueled delirium and gets a wound licked by Ruka...who happens to be a vampire. And while Mito's blood doesn't taste great, there's just something about him because of the lack of love in his life that entices Ruka, especially since Ruka hasn't had blood in 10 years (pertaining to a certain and I'm sure not coincidental redheaded girl) .

There's also some kind of vampire lord succession going on? With Ruka intended to succeed the founder Komori (Wataru Takagi) who is serving as his butler? And to do so he needs a thrall or a companion ?

You should never even consider for a second suicide, though to Mito's benefit Ruka comes to the rescue and genuinely decides to take in Mito as his thrall, and Mito jumps at the opportunity to be needed for, cared for, and loved by somebody .

And it should be easy right? Ruka is good with boys and can't drink women's blood...only Mito is actually a girl and has been hiding her chest and long hair the entire time. I'm sure this will turn out well, especially with Yuichiro Umehara showing up .

The OP is a pretty jazzy and fun beat showing everyone dancing and having good vibes, with Mito and Ruka dancing in both Mito's boy and girl forms and Mito torn between two men...but I feel like she and Ruka are destined for each other

Vampire High School Host Club? The premise is interesting enough, I'll probably give it another episode or two.

Mito and Ruka are already sleeping in the same bed together! Ruka even stole his first good morning bloodsucking! Totally counts as a love bite, right ?

I wonder just how convenient playing a boy has been for Mito this whole time, but now she has to keep up the act at an all-boys school...though at least her class seems nice, though we've got the obvious bad boy in Ren .

And of course Mito has to work at the cafe! Got to keep those Ouran vibes going! Though managing the changing room so she doesn't get exposed will probably be her biggest hassle .

Juri questions Mio's intentions towards Ruka (does he have a crush on Ruka?) but Mio taking responsibility for an accident that hurt Ruka after he saved her makes him realize she's on the up-and-up. Plus Mio is able to heal him with her blood. And she's getting so into it she's even spreading herself on the bed seductively !

Why is Ruka so against real women? Why, because he's an Otaku only into 2D girls! Like his favorite magical girl show that he totally watches for the plot and inspirational speeches! Though the girls have panties instead of skirts, so it seems like a very cultured magical girl show .

I wonder if we'll see the heart necklace on Mio transform into all red by the end of the season ?

Look, it's Ichigo and Goro! Although that was less of a kabedon and more smashing a wall in with your first! I wonder how Ren realized Ruka was a vampire ?

I applaud Mio's attempt to defend Ruka's honor by facing off against Ren in the dojo (meanwhile Ruka is just...hopping), but she's really fighting above her weight. Though in matters of the heart she's excellent at delivering critical hits .

Mio could transform into a vampire if they keep this up? Would it really make a difference? She has nothing left and humans have ostracized her and abandoned her all her life...the only person who has accepted and treated her kindly is Ruka, so maybe she's willing to lose her own humanity to be a monster with someone as kind as him. Though it's her kindness and sympathy that have major impact on both Ruka AND Ren (especially when she reminds him of his Sayaka Ohara voiced mom) .

Mito is finally getting the hang of things, so what better time to throw a welcome party? Complete with glamping and BBQ !

Vampire's don't get sick...but it seems they DO get lovesick, judging by Ruka's growing flustered state around Mito, especially when she gets so close to him .

So Ren's dad was a vampire and her mom ran off with him? Is that what happened? I guess that explains why he's so against Mito becoming one and ending up like his mom .

That's a pretty swanky glamping set up! Mito is all over that bed! Oh, and Ren is camping right next to them because it's a free country .

Ruka in a jealous fit acts a little more possessive of Mito and throws her into the water...and she brings him into it and they fool around like lovebirds. I'm genuinely surprised there wasn't a moment where Ruka's shirt was see-through to reveal her chest bindings .

Time for a little late night bloodsucking! Good to know for future reference that Ruka has no intention of turning Mito, because he has his heart set out for his "Destined Partner" but Mito's starting to fall hard for Ruka as well, to the point that she's jealous of the idea of him with another woman .

The moment they mentioned the Hot Springs, I knew Mito was going to risk revealing herself...I mean, she is quite the sight naked (with her hair down AND up), though while Ren almost catches her (or does? I wasn't sure if he was just trying not to make it obvious he figured it out), Mito's quick wig action and ability to hide her breasts manage to keep her hidden...and good thing she had all her clothes on before she fainted !

It's kind of cute how they're becoming friends though .

Ruka obviously doesn't take it well that Ren gave Mito a piggyback ride...and Mito doesn't want anyone else to have Ruka...but Ruka can't fall for anyone other than his "Destined Partner" so he doesn't know what to do with his feelings for Mito .

Oh hey, the ED! Pretty simple and serene ED with Mito walking up to someone and kissing them, as sung by her VA .

Look at Mito earnestly trying to find Ruka so he can suck her blood! She's practically irresistible! If only Ruka wasn't hung-up on not having feelings for anyone other than his "destined partner" and friendzoning her !

Not that Komori really buys this friendzone business...I wouldn't even be surprised if he knows Mito's a girl

Ren really is all in on this friendship thing that he drags Mito away (after giving the ladies of the cafe quite an eyeful) to shop together to make her feel better. And then Mito goes into a dress store...all to appeal to Ruka, mind you, thinking he might like her more if she looked feminine...and no one puts two and two together .

Although honestly Ruka in a beautiful white dress actually is VERY appealing to Ruka (now just imagine how she'd look without the wig) but he just can't give her his heart...so he wants to be just friends. Which I guess Mito is content with because she enjoys being friends with Ruka AND Ren .

Oh hey, the sange sacre has changed color! Mito's blood still doesn't taste great, but that's progress .

Should a girl trying to hide her gender really be walking around in a bathrobe? Especially when Ruka starts sucking her blood in bed and gets REALLY into it. Just like friends do, right? And questions his own sexuality so much that his only solution is that Mito has to get a girlfriend !

Does Juri like Takara? Is that why he was upset about being roped into a mixer ?

Dang, Mito's got game! Getting the attention of a high-class girl from a all-girls school...actually, I can kind of see why Mito can pass as a boy when she looks taller than average girls in this setting .

Ruka is jealous of another girl getting along with Mito, even though Maina had feelings for Ruka, and now Mito is upset about another girl liking Mito. So much for "just friends." Though Mito in her depression leans into Ren for comfort who has...a split personality :eek!?

Mito is dealing with a lot...Ruka friendzoning her, helping another girl in her crush on Ruka, and Ren letting out his fangs and coming in to chomp at her throat too .

Oh yeah, Ruka is a hardcore Magical Girl Otaku. Find a guy who commits to his Magical Girl games like Ruka does .

Ruka trying to get the deets on Mito's luck with other girls makes Mito mad, that he would be a bro to her about her luck with other girls when he's so oblivious that SHE'S a girl who has feelings for HIM. Which means Mito finally realizes she loves Ruka .

That it took this sleazy guy to recognize Mito as a girl...good thing Ren swooped in to save her! And because Mito doesn't want to be found out by Ruka in her emotionally distraught state, she can just make Ren question his sexuality instead .

There's something hilariously ironic that the first person Ruka mistakes for Mito is a girl .

I'm genuinely surprised Ren didn't feel Mito's chest bindings when he lefited her up the gate .

So Ren is a dhampir, half-human and half-vampire, and accepted by neither side. Even his own mother basically abandoned him to become a vampire with his vampire father. But it's just like how Mito lost everything and was accepted by no one, though now they have each other .

Should Mito really be wearing nothing but a shirt in front of a guy ?

Ren is losing himself to his feelings for Mito, guy or not, and was about to kiss her in her sleep...but she still calls out for Ruka. Though Ren will still be by her side and even sleep right next to her .

Ruka knocking on every room in the dorm to find Mito...and of course kicks downs Ren's door to find him in bed with Mito. And then they get into a fight and Ruka leaves in a huff. Though it's also a sign of how he's dwelling over his complicated feelings for Mito (and her true gender) .

Mito and Ruka's relationship has hit a new low! So what better excuse to skip school and work and enjoy themselves? Preferably after Mito has put some clothes on .

I feel like I say this every episode, but should Mito really be going to the beach and wearing a swimsuit? Even if it is a skintight bodysuit that covers up her chest. She was just lucky Juri likes to cover up .

I'm not surprised Takara is all in on the busty Bikini Babes, though now I kind of want to see Mito in a bikini...but it makes Juri jealous because he likes Takara. And he and Mito are able to bond in their mutual unrequited love .

Ruka isn't as sweetsmaker, but it's the thought that counts when preparing a cake to patch things up with Mito .

Oh hey, Maina! The girl Mito gave romantic advice too! And now she's making her move and asking Ruka out! Just in time for Mito to see and Komori to use to his advantage by pushing Ruka to be with someone else when he's at his weakest without Mito's blood...but when it comes to thinking of the person he likes, Ruka can only think of Mito .

I figured Ren was going to work at the cafe at some point, all the moreso so he can flirt with Mito more .

I know they're bloodsucking is pretty intimate as is, but I love how Ruka basically just imagines Ruka and Maina banging each other .

I feel bad for Maina. Ruka puts the moves on her in his bed, tells her he likes someone else, turns out to be the boy who gave her romantic advice...and she takes the rejection like a champ and decides to support Ruka and Mito instead. The girl deserves a super-large parfait !

Ruka and Mito finally patch things up, Ruka sucks Mito's blood again, and all is right! Well, other than Mito realizing her feelings and wanting Ruka to see her as a woman and like her back...but for now, she'll settle for a date .

Though Mito is not the only person who has realized their feelings...Ren has too. For Mito .
