The Nanoha/Fate/Vivio dynamic is very pleasant and endearing. So is Vivio's friendship circles. It flows smoothly, and is like the viewing equivalent of relaxing and drinking a soothing cup of coffee.

It also helps that scenes don't linger too long, and scene transitions happen at good points.

I have only two criticisms for this episode, and the first is a wider franchise issue:

1. Too many characters. At least half of these characters I'll probably never care about. But that's not overly problematic as long as a few key characters maintain good focus, as is the case so far.

2. Art style and animation leaves something to be desired, especially in the OP. I wouldn't call it downright ugly, but it does feel a bit stiff and inelegant at times. It's a bit disappointing that this looks worse than StrikerS, given how old StrikerS now is. Still, I'll hold out hope that they might be saving on the budget for more action-packed episodes.

Aside from that, a very smooth and enjoyable first episode. Good cliffhanger moment to end on.
Well of course they're saving the budget for future episodes because u're forgetting about the other's transformation and the actual tournament itself.

I've only seen the movies so most of this is new to me but I enjoyed it immensely. The art is beautiful and seeing an older Fate and Nanoha is a treat. I'm not sure how I fell about Vivio but she's cute enough. Looking forward to the next episode.

I know for sure 99% of people just want more white devil befriending. Will they give to us in the end like strikers?

Mama is a government worker~ I guess that trauma was blocked out at an early age.

What trama? since strikers Vivio has been Nanoha 2.0 with upgraded socal skills. Just think about it the episode shows us Vivio has been learning magic under drill sargent Nanoha and thinks it is fun. And remeber Darth Vader is also a government woker

I was a little surprised they even put the Ixpellia scene in... I'd guess most anime only viewers would be a little confused about it, but personally I thought I was nice they did. :3

A good first ep.

It's funny to think of the contrast there must be between Fate at work as an Enforcer, and how excitable she is at home.

Also, why doesn't Chris talk?

People are focusing on the quality, but honestly I think I found the OP song the most disappointing.

I want to see the fight scene next episode before I get a real first impression.

I don't remember if he talked in manga but IMHO it looks better this way.

He doesn't talk in the manga, either.

The OP is just not as high-adrenaline as the previous seasons. But still pretty good. On the other hand, the ED is much more upbeat. So it's a wash.

I'm shocked they showed the worlds cutest zombie apocalypse in the flash back as the manga really glossed over who IX was durring the visit.

I know, but why did Vivio's mothers decide to give her a mute device? I'd expect a talking one would be much more convenient for her education. And what if the situation is somehow very bad and she needs a pep talk and only Sacred Heart's there to give it? What will it do, play charades?

Chris and Vivio generally seem to be able to communicate with each other. Also I assume it has speech functionality, it just doesn't make use of it because it's currently designed to play the part of a stuffed animal. In an emergency that kind of restriction would probably be disabled.
