Leaked Audio Captures Romney Asking Employers To Tell Their Employees How To Vote

ewly-discovered audio from a conference call in June captures Mitt Romney asking business owners to urge their employees to vote for him.
Romney, speaking on a call to the very conservative National Federation of Independent Business, tells a group of business owners that they should “make it very clear” how they feel about the candidates. The audio, discovered by In These Times, also captures Romney telling the business owners to “pass… along to your employees” how their jobs might be effected by who wins in November:

Independently verified by a number of sources, and we have several examples now of leaked CEO communications to their employees. Basically, its "scare the peasants with threats of personal destruction" time.

Anyone who wants to skip to that particular statement by Romney from the above video, go to the timecode 26:37.

I have mixed feeling about this one. It might not be the best thing for the canadian TV market but this merge could had been a good thing for the québecois tv market; it would had been abble to compete against the overwelming presence and influence of Québecor Media.

The sports and recreational shooters will probably order bullets in bulk online cheap. (don't order surplus Russian .22 cal bullets...they are dirty and will gum up your gun).

She can propose it all he wants ... but state and federal rules almost certainly trump the idea. Screw the NRA, they're just toxic garbage anymore. People in general should say to this politician, Bzzzzt! but thanks for playing -- go do her homework better. Like ... how about an effective police force and judicial system?

The basic effect is to disarm poor people or send the black market through the roof. Dumb.

There are so many ways in which we can get rid of the firearms issue in the US. It would be less of an issue if there were not that many foolish people who worship guns as much as they do with God. I already have my share of disgust for life about firearms sold on the civilian market since 1999 with Columbine and the NRA's display a few days later. If some people love guns that much, they can just apply to be men and women in uniform.

Perhaps I should save more for the gun control thread.

Many people don't "love guns" any more than they love electricity, but they consider a firearm to be an essential tool. This is particularly true in areas where police response is slow, in rural areas, for women being threatened by abusers, etc.

What we have is a *violence* issue in the US - which derives from multiple societal dysfunction vectors. Regulation isn't inherently evil, but I'm not keen on laws that don't actually make sense, are ineffective, or actually have worse "unintended consequences".

OMG... This is an absolute bombshell! But isn't this info supposed to go in the 2012 elections thread? Also, is the mass media talking about this video? This is downright criminal if you ask me.

Not really. If you look at the letter of what he said, all it was was an encouragement for entrepreneurs to share their political convictions. (Which they're as free to do as anyone else.) I suppose doing it in the workplace could be illegal in some countries, but I don't think the US is one of them.

When you tell them that their job safety could be determined by the outcome of the election, it becomes a threat and coercion. That is illegal in the US. However, they gave themselves just enough plausible deniability that they can't be sued or arrested, since they didn't outright say it. Now, if Obama wins and the workers get fired, that'll be interesting because they'll have acted on the implied threat.
