I totally agree - the soundtrack is one of the defining points of this anime. I cannot think of the anime without thinking of the soundtrack and I cnanot think of the soundtrack without thinking of scenes from the anime. To the extent that it would've been a completely different creature with a different soundtrack. That (and the bg art and most of the designs and the colour scheme) is something I can say is definitely worthwhile in this anime.
There is no manga version available but there is a short novel that came out not long ago which has a few very minor details added to the events that happened in the anime. (And then I'm going to surreptitously get the 1000th reply to this thread hur hur.)

Although lately I stopped visiting this forum... I felt obligated to visit this thread now that ep 26 is subbed.
Although toward the end I had absolutely no idea what the hack they were trying to get at... episode 26 was just as great of an ending as I hoped for. It wraps things up and the last scene is just... *sigh in happiness* I watched the whole anime from beginning to end. It was worth it. @wao b/c you are not online: 耀赫絵巻 updated 7 or 8 pages of comic. Its that reason alone why i've been listening to Hakodate from the second soundtrack none stop. "The curtain falls on the play crafted by Ibaragi Soutetsu." Also, i wrote about Iroha on my blog if anyone's interested. :3

I just zoned out everytime they cut to the historical stuff. I kindda lost interest after episode 12ish...it was being stretched TOO much and it was too much like a history chanel documentary.
I finished the series last night, and I gotta say Akizuki looked like he had gained weight in the last two episodes! And I also agree that the soundtrack is the best thing about this anime. |

Actually, I disagree. The series isn't without its flaws, but I'd have to say that the music is still great all around.
All in all, the ride has been worth it overall, but I'm also not so sure if I would like to go through all of it all over again. I feel the same way as MrProphet. I too enjoyed the first half of the series more than the second—those parts prior to Akidzuki and Kakunojo going on a journey. Nice ending though, and I'm glad the series gave me a good lasting impression despite its shortcomings. |

I wasn't nearly as down on most of the latter eps as some folks were, though I freely admit the last arcs were uneven. Still, there's no question the ending was a big leap upwards, certainly in animation quality if nothing else. It's rare for an ending to leave one feeling generally fulfilled, especially for as far-reaching a series as this, but they did a very nice job. Would have liked one last Katsu cameo, though...

I haven't watched that far into the series (I can't download stuff on the server I'm on), but what I've seen so far has been amazing. I did get a hold of the soundtrack and I am very pleased with the composition. I wonder if I can get my hands on the score.
