Yea, I'm a fan of hard-working MC, but this particular brand of brainless 'train hard until your body's wrecked, and you wouldn't suck anymore!' annoyed the hell out of me.

As a whole, I'm rather unimpressed by the first ep. The beginning feels flat and unconvincing, not only in comparison to Baby Steps, but to a majority of sports series that I've tried. I'm actually reminded the most of Whistle, an early 2000s football series with similarly unskilled MC, except it's pulled off better there.

Character motivation is all sorts of baffling to me. Why did Kazama just out of the blue decided to pull Tsukushi into playing? For that matter, why did Tsukushi (without prior passion or experience in the sport, mind) threw himself at it so hard? Just because he's so happy Kazama asked him?

I want to wait until the first match proper, but traditionally there need to be a 'get to know teammates/squad assembly' sequence before that, and I already disliked the overly broad approach to characterization. One more ep, I suppose...

I liked the first episode. It's clear that's not at Baby Steps level, but that is a damm high bar. We'll have to wait and see being two cours, but the manga is pretty long isn't it?

I found pretty much all of the cast unconvincing. Socially akward MC has a convenient childhood friend who pops along to signal a case of "the not gays". Jin Kazama was far too eager about such an inexperienced player for sure. And even the futsal salary men and school captain had the patience of saints.

Episode 2:

Decent episode and it shows that Seiseki is a good team considering the reputation about Tsukamoto's membership (being made fun of because they thought he wasn't the manager)

Meanwhile, the training shows that Tsukamoto has a strong will to improve himself. I wish his personality wasn't so timid though. Still loving the realism of the series.

Wow, didn't expect Tsukamoto to improve that quickly in only the 2nd episode. But then I'm not complaining because it would be bad if we see him run like a newbie for several episodes. ):

So the current captain has already chosen the future captain, huh? Entertaining series so far - looking forward to the next episode.

Episode 3:

Dang, they are really making Tsukamoto look like a complete underdog out there. The skill gap between him and Jin is just...too much for now. Although that's probably a good thing as the series will have plenty of time to develop him more.

Lol @ the man service. The match was okay, I had some fun watching it although it wasn't amazing imo.

It's a full cour? Because it seems to be developing at a very calm pace... Not that I dislike it, but I hope it is more than 12 episodes

you can't teach drive and passion. once he gets his technique down, he'll be unstoppable. of course that'll take the better part of 17 eps, then the high school tournament rolls around..

I read the manga. It sucks, but there are signs of artistic license with the anime so maybe it won't be AS bad.

Is there a name for that rotating thing they were doing in the bath? I always wanted to know what it was called.

Not sure how I'm feeling about this one. I thought the first two episodes were enjoyable enough, it had quite some charm, and at time some funny moments (particularly in the first episode).

Third episode was a letdown though, I think they're overdoing it with the whole "now I remember playing soccer is supposed to be fun" shtick with tacky flashbacks.

Hope those don't last.

Episode 4:

Chikako is awesome, somewhat arrogant at first but I think she's a strong independent girl who speaks her mind.

Tsukamoto managed to make her see his side differently in a way. Glad to see that she joined the team as a manager too. Good for her, can't wait to see what she brings in for the team.

For a start, she is not one to take nonsense. She can handle the first year players. That scene when she asked them about Tsukamoto and how she handled Kazama. She can put them in their place. You can see the first years were a bit aghast that she is now the manager.

After a disappointing episode 3, I loved episode 4... easily my favorite so far. Hope we get more like that, and more Ubukata of course.

If you ignore all the soccer stuff, the characters can carry the show fine enough alongside the protag. Primarily why I continue with the series

So there is finally the love interest that enters, although, since it is a sports anime, probably nothing will come of it. Well, the childhood friend might also be a love interest, but I think she fits into more the sister role. I don't think there will be a love triangle in all of this.

His progress is very shounen, though. He is progressing way faster than I would think is realistic.
