I call bs on Popp actually getting there in time; Dai and Maam were already incapacitated, and he was WAYYY on the other side of the city. I didn't care too much of his "redemption"; far too forced and plot-convenience to me to take at face value. I don't think anything better of him from this episode, but I'll see how this changes his character going forward(and you manga readers don't have to inform me of whether it will or it won't; I'll let the anime itself do the talking). I don't have high hopes either way =0v.

Pop's redemption was nice. He isn't really a bad person, just a coward. Seeing his companions in danger and being confronted by Masopho, who is basically a representation of what his future self could be, gave him the strength to (at least temporarily) overcome his weakness. In these kind of series having a character who isn't an hero from the start but has to grow into one caan really add to the story, if done right. Of course, it may feel cliché...but this is a 30 years old series, the usual tropes of the genre have to be expected.

Ultra instinct Dai was cool and I hope the next Dragon ball series will be as nicely animated as this.

I'm surprised they're putting so much effort into this, especially when thinking back to what happened with Super.

Popp's stand against Crocodine was cool.

I wonder if it's the after effect of Kimetsu's success, with production committees realising that shounen adaptation can get a massive sales boost if it looks pretty. (Jujutsu Kaisen being another example of this now) Or it could be the same Toei team as the Gegege no Kitarou remake which also looked surprisingly good for a Toei anime.

Well, you do have to realize that this is a shonen series, so the fact that being incapacitated actually doesn't mean much. Dai could suddenly stand up and activate Dragon Warrior mode to defeat Crocodine.... Wait... that's exactly what happened... errr....

Dai was able to stand and fight Crocodain, yes, but that was because someone intervention, for all purposes he was KOed and waiting to get finished.

Dai didn't just suddenly stand up and activate his power for no reason.
He was only able to do so thanks to Popp sacrificing himself to save Brass.

The point is that this is shonen. The story made it so that Popp came in, but since it's shonen, it would have worked without Popp, too. It's just the way Shonen is.

Maybe, maybe not.
It's kinda pointless to talk about what could have happened alternatively.

The thing is, this statement of yours is simply not true.

And because Gomechan healed him.

I don't want to further this conversation after this, since it has gone long enough. However, what you just pointed out is exactly why Popp wasn't exactly necessary. Gomechan could have healed Dai regardless of Popp. The point is, this is shonen. In shonen, you can be unconscious and still defeat your enemies. That is just the nature of the genre.

The original quote said that there was no one else to save the day; hence Popp was needed. My point was that that wasn't necessarily true. At the end of the day, Dai saved the day because even if he unconscious, either Gomechan was going to heal him or Maam was going to heal him. And then he'll rise up with his dragon powers to win.

Ok, that's all I'm going to comment on this topic. It's been going on long enough.

Ended up missing much of the discussion. So will just say that I tend to agree that Popp's moment was heavily hindered by Gomechan's tears...helping heal Dai or activating his super mode. Heck even Popp throwing him a sword wasn't necessarily important since in that state I don't see why Dai couldn't just speed over to a sword and still counter the attack. He'd undoubtedly be faster than Popp who had time to do that.

I kind of figured that Popp freeing Brass would actually matter for more than Popp's own character arc. That Brass would actually do something and that would connect to Popp indirectly saving the day. As it stands all needed to happen was to tell Gomechan a sad story .

The redemption bit for Popp was fine. Although it would have been fun to have him join the fake hero party and actually recruit the old guy in his place . Give that guy his own chance at redemption.

Well I suppose it fits that Avan wasn't necessarily the best at choosing students. I mean look at Popp . That his first student ended up a psycho that joins the Demonic army himself just isn't that hard to believe. No surprise he's gunning to wipe out Dai and the others. If he can't kill his former teacher then might as well kill the ones he taught.

I'm sure Leona is fine, but will be nice to find out just how the heck she survived all this and how many of her people are still ok.

I don't remember if Hyunkel's deception was as short lived and pointless in the manga or the first anime as it was here.

That was underwhelming, a great set up of Hyunkel deception infiltrating Dai's team only for him to reveal the deception 2 minutes later. Seriously what was the point?

Hyunckel never tried to win through deception. He is not Zaboera

It's more like he wanted to get to know them before fighting them.
When he saw that they decided to trust a complete stranger they've met for the first time, he was so disappointed that he dropped the act.

Yes, it was also that short.

They stated Hyunckel is the only human in the Demon Lord's army, so that means the very human looking mustache man is not human and is highly likely Dai's dad. Although if that's the case, it's weird Crocodine and tiny old man didn't recognize the crest.

I'll give Popp credit for not blindly trusting a stranger unlike his two companions.

I like the new outfits (though Dai's armor looks cheap as fuck ) but I already miss Maam's cleavage.
