I agree with most of those except the bit about Maka's mother. She's just not important to the story so we can ignore her. Azusa's meister is probably the most glaring.

I don't know, throughout the whole manga I was waiting for Maka's mother to show up.

She had plenty of reason to be in the story. The DWMA in the end went to war and called in the best of the best and yet they left out one of their best miesters? Maka goes toe to toe with the Kishin and yet her mother never showed up? you'd think a parent would want to be their to keep their kid safe like her father was doing... you even point out one yourself; first time Death called the deathsycthes to gather, he was actually one miester short (no miester for Azusa... Sid had to borrow her even he already had nygus)

Maka's mother would have let us see another one of the best miester's in action. Also she and spirit are practically a legendary team; not only would it be awesome to see them in action, but they could give us a taste of what Maka and Soul would become and surpass. And frankly, I would want to get to know the woman that Maka admires so much... heck interactions between her and spirit would have been great to see. See how that family dynamic works.

Also saying "she's not important to the story" is my problem with the author. He gives us only what we need to follow the story, but leaves out a lot of details that would give us more substance... and if you look between the lines, you can see some plot holes that could have been filled by those details

I'm hoping Maka's mother will show up in Soul eater Not. A BIG part of this series is the fan service. It won't be as awesome as her showing up in the main series, but I'd still like to see it. Maybe she'll show up and give Meme and Anya some pointers while Tsugumi gets some lessons from Spirit (the later sounds hilarious)

Maka's mother was not impressive as a meister. Not terrible, but not "legendary". She's explicitly a worse partner for Spirit than Stein, probably worse than Sid too. Spirit's specialty turned out to be matching himself to his wielder after all. It's also kind of implied that she's retired, most likely when she got married (Japan is still a very traditional society in this respect: see Marie).

The anime hyped her up a bit, but it's always dangerous to carry impressions from the anime into judgments on the manga.

Maka's mother was considered to be one of the greatest meisters in the world. The only reason she's not better than Stein is because Stein is perhaps the greatest meister in the world.

Where does it say that? In the manga.

Edit: I'm 3/4 expecting to be proven wrong at this, but I still wanna see it.

no, the manga never downplayed her as such. Yes she wasn't as good as Stein but that's because NO ONE is as good as stein; he is the literally the best the DWMA has. It was never implied that she was worse than Sid who never turned any weapon into a death scythe. Heck, creating a death Scythe is the ultimate achievement of any DWMA student and one that very few miesters ever achieve... she's likely in the top 5

Also if she retired... kinda of a jerk move not to retire to Death City where she could be with her daughter. Especially not coming back when her daughter was getting involved in a war with the most dangerous being on the planet.

If you want me to hunt that out word for word it will be difficult. She's talked about enough that it's patently obvious, however. For one thing, she was the one responsible for turning Spirit into a Deathscythe, which simply cannot be done without being a top-class meister. In the very first chapter Shinigami-sama states that she was a fantastic meister (exact term in Japanese may be variable). And it should be noted that throughout the entire manga the only person who is ever stated to have been better than she was is Stein.

She retired to get married to Spirit. And then left because Spirit cheated on her. Since he can't exactly quit his job as Death Scythe she had to leave town to get away from him. Makes sense to me.

The main purpose of her character is basically to have Spirit be a single father who's not too sympathetic.

I was keeping that under spoiler tags. And no, he didn't know until SPOILER revealed it at the same time SPOILER outed Kim.

Really like the first episode, but i think i will have to drop this.

The anime didn't feel like Soul Eater in-universe at all. I means The girl's problem can be applied in a just a normal school life setting, and it will still work pretty much the same.

..another reason actually was because they kinda toned down the shoujo-ai subtext from the manga version... so feel kinda annoyed with it.
