One thing I like about the setting is that instead of the modern day, as these sorts of "monsters appear and starting messing things up" stories usually take place in, it happens in a pre-industrial era. Granted, they have the maneuver gear and big walls that are probably unbuildable by people of that time, but the atmosphere is cool and you don't get the feeling of "why don't they just unload a bunch of depleted uranium rounds on them?"

Like almost everyone , this anime looks titanic !
Good that we got this kind of atmosphere , it has been a while. The moment who broke my heart was when the mother said to his kid to live on but she remembered her lovely family past then said "don't go" damn that was so intense... And i liked the moment when Hannes showed up and acted like a big dude but when he encountered the titan , he pissed her pant. It show you how much the Titans's auras are monstruous. Hope they'll keep up with the quality , at least for the atmosphere & story. Yes it only 1 episode , don't know how much money they got for this project. Last edited by -Sho-; 2013-04-07 at 15:30. |

That was a really good way to start off a show. Theres quite a bit more of intrigue aside from the visuals with both Eren and Mikasa introduced and getting their origin story. Its every so slightly hamfisted in presentation but well executed as such much like Jojos Bizarre adventure. I really love the art style of this show so far. Really stands out from the pack so far as especially detailed and directed.

the dissonance from the different art direction for the titans also make them feel out of this world and gives a sense of "wtf are those things!?". Similar method was used for Berzerker in F/Z with great success.

Though going by this logic, we don't have to worry about the "mini" human going extinct. |

Her saying "don't go" was not wanting to die when her imminent demise stepped forward and started peeling the house off of her to eat her. It was showing that no matter how brave a face we put on for our loved ones, when faced with death, no one wants to die.

Oh my, how the mother died was so cruel. I had a hard time watching that bit so I had so look away.
Overall, the first ep was strong. I'm interested about the world beyond the wall, the life of the titans and what's hidden in the basement. I don't think I'll take the titans' side anytime soon as they're depicted as mindless savages who devour human beans (though I admit they do have nice straight teeth. They must have good dentists.) And to add insult to injury, they walk around unclothed showing their not so fit physique. I think eventually they'll introduced civilized ones. Those probably will be prettier with better bods and clothed. They're the ones who created supersized red titans (or iron man version of the titans) that broke down the wall. I think. Some of them may even be good guys. That is not to say I'll have a thing for them. At any rate, I'm onto this. |

When I saw the PV for this show I had zero interest in watching it. Ridiculous-looking giants that have perpetual grins/grimaces? No, thank you. Even though I kept hearing positive things about the manga I just couldn't summon any desire to give it a look.
Then I found myself anything to watch. I decided to give this a try. If for nothing else I thought it might be worth a laugh or two. I'm pleasantly surprised that I was wrong. At no point did I find myself wanting to laugh. I can't say that I was scared or horrified as some others have been though. As of this point I still can't seem to take the giants too seriously because of their appearance but that could change. I'm not ruling it out. My only complaint is that the drama seemed ratcheted up to an unnecessarily high level. Absolutely everyone (excepting Dr. Jaegar, Town Guard, and Mikasa) seemed to be perpetually screaming, wailing, et cetera. This made it difficult for me to take the more dramatic sequences with the necessary gravitas. I hope the dial it back a little bit in future episodes.
