Reccomendations please.
Hello, I am looking for Japanese animated shows/films to watch. The only requirement is that the show or film must be licensed here in the United States, preferably already finished or close to being finished but a series with only one DVD out is fine. I am not sure what kind of show I am looking for, but here is a list of films and shows that I deeply enjoyed:
Neon Genesis Evangelion (except the movie) Full Metal Panic! (all three seasons) Shakugan no Shana The Melacholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Gunslinger Girl When They Cry- Higurashi The Miyazaki movies Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG Kanon Air Bleach Full Metal Alchemist Blood+ Blood: the Last Vampire Kirby: Right Back At Ya! I am open to anything except shows with explicit sexual intercourse. |

Thanks for the suggestions.
@Deus ex Digital Boy: I heard good things about the show; I will definitely check it out. @LeoXiao: Hm, I will try to find the older Ghost in the Shell series. @Williamaugustus: Hm, I have actually seen DBZ before- should have mentioned that. Trinity Blood sounds promising from what I have read. I saw some bits and pieces of InuYasha on Adult Swim; it was not too interesting, but I will try again only this time watching the series in order. Yu Yu Hakusho... I think I saw that series before as it looks familiar. Will definitely check it out. Thanks for the suggestions. You can still recommend more if you wish. |

Since you liked the NGE series I'd throw in Rahxephon
Other completed shows I'd recommend: Darker than Black (not certain where the DVD releases are atm but I think it finished airing in USA its def licensed and a good show) Cowboy Beebop, older show but also very nice. Like darker than black has good character development and story Wolf's Rain and maybe Eureka 7 I must add that Trinity Blood is a fair show to watch, the manga is a lot better but it is still enjoyable. Also I'm not certain if this would count for you as licensed but Xam'd lost memories is a show licensed and released through the playstation3 store, it is also something you might want to check out. Sorry but it isn't on any dvd release yet in America nor does it air on TV in dub |

Try Noein, great sci-fi show and an even better deal at about $25.
The other show I would recommend is Junni Kokki ("Twelve Kingdoms"), though it's a fantasy adventure. It's a bit more expensive (2 box sets at $31 each), but there are 45 episodes rather than 26. Don't watch Nodame Cantabile Paris-Hen unless you've already seen the first season. You'll enjoy it better if you watch it in order.

A unifying characteristic I see in your favorites list is a strong focus on characterization. Based on that factor, you might try giving Victorian Romance Emma a shot. It's not for everyone but I think you might enjoy it.
Also, at the possible risk of too much of a good thing, you might like The Familiar of Zero (Zero no Tsukaima) which just got its US DVD box release last week. Same cast and staff as Shana. |
