So, how would this rate on your top 10 list? Would this even fall into that category? I'm trying to decide if I want to read it or not, or pick up something else.

It's miura so I'd say rank 1 or 2 imo.

I'm only saying that because I have most of the volumes of this manga from past to recent issues and the DVD.(almost a hardcore fan, but, i don't post that much here)

i say read it. lots blood and gore if you're into those kinds of genre and plenty of nudity and sex along the way, but, not hardcore of course imo. what else, well i'm mostly interested in the relationship of guts and griffith and guts' character development whether he'll turn into a another version of the skull knight, member of the godhand (he has the egg so...), or whatever, and what will happen after.

I still say this is the #1 manga out there...Especially if you haven't been waiting around for years for new chaps like some of us, but if you are starting fresh and from chap 1. You'll be reading non-stop till your caught up.

try it if u are 18+ and like fantasy world, the story is serious and the chars are deep

Bro, easily makes the top 5. Pushing for top 3 when you are first reading it...

Then you catch up to current releases, and it's like like a shot of tequila. All fun and games, but at the end of the day it still tastes like shit.

Yeah, it used to be #1 for me too but the last 20 chapters really ruined it. Not because it comes out very slow but because it's no longer gore and terror around Gut's shitty life. Now it's too much cool factor with him and Grifith showing off how powerful they are to the masses around them. I wasn't reading it for this macho crap! Where did the terror and grim pasts go to? And what's with this D&D team of misfits fighting pirates and seafreaks?

Nope, for me GUNNM is now #1, Battle Royale #2, and if it keeps f*cking up, Gantz will become #3.

For me it's second. Was first until "trip to magic island" started. First is Akumetsu, second Berserk, third Unbalance x2, forth Bitter Virgin and for fifth place Claymore and Angel Hearth are competing. If you like any manga I've mentioned (well, except Unbalance), you should like Berserk as well. In terms of gore and showing evil side of humanity Berserk is on par with Akumetsu and Battle Royale. It's has moments as heartbreaking as Bitter Virgin. You could also say it's a darker and more mature version of Claymore or Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm). Probably the most similar manga to Berserk is Shin Angyo Onshi.

Y'know i'm not sure where berserk lands in my top 10, but the LONG time between updates REALLY impairs it.

Is there anyone here know anything about the release date for volume 34? so far I have all the way up to 33 and afaik they release new volume every 3 months, am I right? because it's been half a year already... I think...

lol... nah i don't think so... while she is really cute and Gut's doesn't have a young teen in his harem and the mangaka is a fan of idolmaster, i don't expect her to stick around.
In the chapter it says that her mother is supposed to comeback for her one day, so i'd expect to see her go full mermaid and leave. it wouldn't be the first time we had one shot characters for an arc; granted unlike the others she actually does have special properties. If she's lucky she might get to stick around while they are sailing around.

So it turns out the girl is actually half-merrow(mermaid) No i did hw her father and mother "did it", but they did =p granted, she's like 99% human... she's really good at finishing but doesn't show any of the other characteristics... though as we saw before our favorite little witch might see more to her than that... She's also seems less likely to turn out to be secretly evil, since mermaids are the ones that sealed away the sea god long ago and are said to be a symbol of good luck. And it turns out the tentacle monster they've been fighting is relevant since those are the tentacles of the sea god... which has now infected the village... which means guts has a lot of killing to do. Unfortunately, there is no date for the next chapter that i can see... that's usually a bad sign for when the next chapter will be out Y'know i'm not sure where berserk lands in my top 10, but the LONG time between updates REALLY impairs it.
