And doesn't Umineko have manga too? One for each episode.

I'll admit it took me a minute to realize Keiichi was Keiichi here. Kind of surprised what's going on with this. Don't get me wrong, Higurashi remains one of my top anime. Even though honestly I'm not much into all the genres it leans into. But, I'm still a bit surprised. Certainly the original first season had...interesting visual choices. Deen being Deen and all that. But I thought it was overall a pretty effective journey.

Oh well, back in it again! Didn't think I'd have to get back on this ride once more. Hey more Rika is good .

I absolutely loved the preview, and got Ip Man vibes thanks to Kenji Kawai's music!

That's the same trailer that's been out since March and posted on the first page of the thread, complete with pre-COVID delay air date

this Higurashi sub-forum is huge. Somehow I had the illusion that this is a large thread like the images thread, and the first post is many years old. Maybe the work of oyashiro-sama.

Wow a new thread on the AS sub! Amazing!

I'm excited for the new anime, been a fan for 13 years and Higurashi is constantly on my mind especially after reading the VNs. So excited for the new merch that'll come out definitely. The Higurashi VN turns 20 in 2022, so it's awesome to see a new series.

Is this 2-cours includes both question and answer arcs or only the question arcs?

Breaking it down, a lot of the shots are rather generic and hard to place while the ones that are identifiable all seem to come from the first two arcs. There's a few shots of stuff the first anime skipped so I think it's safe to say the pacing will be slower as well. Given the contents of the first two pvs I'm going to go ahead and guess that the first cour will focus on Onikakushi and Watanagashi while the second cour (ep 14+) will cover Tatarigoroshi and Himatsubushi.

I rather hope that they learned from DEEN's mistakes and don't try something stupid like cramming the first two answer arcs into season one, but we'll have to wait and see.

4 arcs for the first season is just too slow.
Doing 5 arcs is more reasonably pacing.

4 arcs for the first season seems reasonable to me since 6 for the 2006 anime was waaaay too rushed, it's hard for me to rewatch it nowadays.

I really do love the upgrade to Rika's priestess outfit though!

Spoiler for Rika's new outfit:

Actually I'd say that 4 arcs for season one is still a bit on the fast side. When I was reading the vns I spent a lot of time trying to break them down in my head and figure out how many episodes you would need to adapt each arc in an ideal fashion. I came up with something like:
8 episodes for Onikakushi (skipping a few less important scenes in the beginning to get to the festival by episode three. Even longer if you include everything)
9 for Watanagashi (get to the watanagashi festival by episode 4)
10-11 for Tatarigoroshi (never really finished breaking this one down)
3-4 for Himatsubushi (depending on whether they could find a good way to integrate the more interesting tips rather than skipping them entirely like the DEEN version)

My breakdowns tended to be a bit slower paced and expansive compared to the absurdly rushed DEEN version, so I imagine this new anime will be something of a compromise between the two extremes.
