I watch most of the stuff on the computer... but with the series I have on DVD, I play them on my Playstation 3 hooked up to my Samsung 32 inch LCD HDTV since it looks alot better since it upscales to 720p.

Hell yes, I can't watch anime when someone's vacuuming or if I'm really hungrey etc. I need peice and quite. I close all other windows and programms (unless I'm downloading another episode) while I watch anime.

I actually don't know, because I've only ever watched anime by myself because I don't know anyone else IRL that likes anime as much as I do, and not just that, but the anime I like as well.

I recently put together a "Holy Grail" setup for the single user.

1 leather recliner + 1 24" 1080p monitor two feet away = Entertainment Bliss

The issue was how to put that monitor in front of me. I couldn't mount it on the wall, and any floor mount would have to be large and heavy, and VESA mounting hardware is expensive if not custom made. Then I found the Standers Able Tray, which works marvelously so long as I keep weight on the foot opposite the monitor's weight. Sure, I get some flack from friends for having a "senior citizen lifestyle enabling device", but well, my friends don't use big monitors from their recliners.

Spoiler for Almost the Holy Grail:

Please ignore the football imagery on the wall. It was painted by the previous tenant, and I won't be here long enough to justify repainting.

I'm sad to say my monitor is a TN panel and therefore only capable of 6 bit color, but even my picky eye is satisfied with it the majority of the time, and the price was good enough I wasn't going to complain. No desk means no place to mount speakers, but I use headphones (Sennheiser HD201--the best on a budget) to keep from inflicting my noise on others. Laptop drives the monitor via DVI, leaving the HDMI port for the game console (which pipes sound via optical S/PDIF through the laptop to get it to the headphones).

Ultimately, I would prefer a very large TV. There has been no progress made in bringing 120Hz displays to computer monitors, and frankly the close focal point and headphones can get a little fatiguing (I work and play from this setup, so the extended hours take their toll). When I don't have to worry about other people and feel freer to move my activity into central areas, I'll be eyeing a 50"+ LED backlit Samsung and whatever surround sound system I piece together. I'll likely retain my current setup even then, though, because for work it is really nice to be able to lean in and study individual pixels.

As long as the eating process won't distract from the screen--or make too much noise, distracting from the audio--I enjoy combining the two. Part of this is enjoying two comforts at once. Another part is hating to eat without multitasking (It just seems like time wasted!)

Generally speaking, I really don't "get" how distractions don't bother other people. My family is content to watch a movie with a child screaming and running in front of the television set, then pausing the movie halfway to put the child to bed and make dessert... That drives me crazy.

No distractions for me. Everything must be set before I settle in to enjoy something. Lights set, food and drink prepared, video set for full screen...

And no interrupting! I had to pause to go do something inconsequential for some one in the middle of the closing episode of the final arc in Clannad's After Story. Murderous rage was suppressed... or would have been if I wasn't too busy crying my eyes out.

Of course, for something I don't really care about, it doesn't matter as much. I enjoy Seitokai no Ichizon fairly well, but I often watch it in windowed mode to allow for multitasking and pause it on occasion.

I never really understood how parking in one's seat and staring at a screen was a social event. Now, things that I enjoy I frequently want to share with other people, so I enjoy watching it with them at that point. There are a few people I share fandom of certain things enough to watch communally on a more general basis, but with anime that's even harder, because I've crossed some linguistic and cultural gaps that mean I enjoy different elements of the shows at a different level, and it makes it really hard to relate with even most of my other friends that enjoy some anime. ...and all of these people I know live hundreds of miles away, so it's a moot point.

If it's an anime I haven't seen yet, then yes I prefer being alone. People I usually watch with tend to talk during the episodes and it can get distracting. I watch all of my anime on my laptop. I first find them, since I'm not allowed to download torrents and the like, I have to find streaming and sometimes pay for it. However, once I find the episodes for a show, if I like it I usually watch the show nonstop till I finish it. As such it takes me about a day and a half on average to finish a 26 episode anime. I have it down to a science where I can watch 3 "half hour" episodes in an hour (since they usually only have 18-20 minutes of actual content). If I can't find a show that's subbed then I won't watch it. I can't stand english dubbing and so I simply omit shows that don't allow me to watch with subbing. I also get some of my anime (such as films and licensed shows) via netflix and watch with the original Japanese audio and English subtitles on there.
