For the curious, it's Abrahadabra what make my spoiler above to happen.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abrahadabra The word is described to be magic of the new era. It is not to be confused with the Word of the Law of the Aeon, which is Thelema, meaning "Will". Now put Esper + Magic = you know what |

Honestly what you expect? But this is just absurdly funny but what got me is the pirate girl. And Misaka's expression that of course, she's not even surprised anymore.
Though my thelema enthusiast in me is going to have fun. |

As for Mikoto, I don't know if she's "woozy" or if Haimura is just struggling to keep up these days. Considering the last volume where the poor girl had an ass cheek hanging out of her swimsuit in some really bizarre fashion, I'd say it's the latter.

Finished the volume.
I starting to get annoyed by Kamachi's recent writing style. As in, what really moves the plot happens only in the last couple of pages. And it really makes you feel that whatever happened in the main chunk of the story is kinda meaningless, as it didn't make much of a difference in the end. If anything, Tsuchimikado kinda is the only one who did something meaningful. This volume is actually the first round of Aleister vs. Laura that everyone is waiting form. Of course, you won't even notice this is what's happening until the last few pages. Last edited by shmaster; 2016-11-12 at 20:12. |

The volume's main character is clearly Fran, and her grand reveal is the core message of this volume, which further draws the distinction between the Kamijou faction and Kamisato faction. But what happened as soon as Aleister showed up? It became just a part of JUST AS PLANNED. Aleister did not even intentionally made things develop this way. Rather, his "Plan" is perfect to the point that things will occur this way by pure chance eventually, and everything well automatically fell into place as the chess pieces in the grand Aleister vs. Laura scheme. Hell, even the whole eliminate Kamisato and Misaka operation are just mere steps to take, and their death and survival does not matter at all. All the disaster that befalls onto the city has no meaning once they have occurred. And as a reader, there is no sense of achievement in reading any of this, because whether Kamisato or Misaka survives or not, Aleister still gets what he wants. They just played yet another chapter of unwitting pawn. Everything is going to loose taste eventually when what you constantly is nothing but bad guys keep on winning. |

I'm confused, that isn't what I thought you meant. I guess it can be frustrating to see Aleister and Laura scheming things in the background while most of the good guys are unaware of what's really going on, but that has been a thing since OT. It is also part of Aleister's character and role as the "mastermind behind the scenes" that he tries to plan for anything, including having backup plans to take advantage of some of his failures and things that look like failures but were actually intended to happen that way. Hell, even recently in NT14 we had an Aleister scene which had the purpose of showing him angry and frustrated that his plans and calculations are going too right, since Noukan couldn't beat Kakeru. I also expected Mikoto and Kakeru to ultimately be expendable, and he probably only talked to Yuiitsu that way to manipulate her. The only thing that he seemingly can't afford to lose it's IB.

Noukan's death truly is an illusion. I was hoping Aleister would have re-think what he had been doing, and re-evaluate himself as a person.
But what we are seeing now? He went even further into the extreme now. Hell, even the entire OP has become an illusion now. At the end of OT, we get Aiwass who is capable of trolling Aleister, and Fiamma that OT told us how much possibility he holds in becoming an actual competition against Aleister. But, hey, where they are now? Fell off of the plot! And NT right now, what has been happening post Othinus arc? Magic Gods showed up! JUST AS PLANNED and they got neutralized like in two volumes. Kamisato shows up! JUST AS PLANNED even Aleister didn't wanted to. Kamisato faction now are mere pawns now that no longer have power to change anything. Yuiitsu rampage! JUST AS PLANNED too. All the disaster that befalls the city and the whole deal with Misaka ultimately made things even better for Aleister! And unlike OT, it seems like Kamachi fear that we'll miss the point in NT, he is now having Aleister showing up at the end of every volume and tell us exactly how his plan has progressed and how everything that had happened only amounts to serving him more. I am sorry, this is getting extremly FRUSTRATING! |

I'm going to piss off a lot of NT purists here, but was there ever an actual point in NT? I've struggled to see a recurring theme that all volumes worked towards unlike OT which had the focus on memories, self-acceptance, heroes and redemption.
I do think it's a bit naive to expect Aleister to reconsider himself, though, since this story isn't about his self-doubt and will never be; he created an entire system of supernatural for his own goals and you think he'd suddenly decide "oh, well, maybe I went overboard there" just because Noukan died...?
