A lingering habit from the (really) old days when when names don't conveniently show up next to messages people type. Younger folks will probably not remember, but a proper forum didn't always look like what we have right now.

Thanks for sharing that interesting piece of info. Never thought forums were different from what they are now. You're old-school dude.

I've only been a forumer since 2012. Been a forum spectator since 2010.

This is what internet forums looked like in the mid-late 90s

Once you opened up a post, you will only see a topic and text. Leaving names was optional. There was no registration. In fact, anyone can pretend to be you, and it was up to you to figure out a way to provide your own security for your own messages. This was often done with creative encryption of sorts. Writing styles, picture and other self-inserted unique features were all part of the game.

How was it that I survived for all these years without the internet amuses me to no end, and an experience I doubt I could ever relive.

And don't even get me started on newsgroups.
