He's kind of innocent but i don't think he's that dense. I think one time when he was feeling down he made a quip about how he's surrounded by cute girls to avoid the topic. I believe there are also straight up confessions of love as well. Though i only remember Lapis confessing that she loves him as a man.

I think I said this before but Vol 1-5 are character driven volumens:

1: Ouka
2:Mari
3:Ikaruga
4:Usagi
5:Takeru.

After Vol. 5 and even before all girls take part in each volume and the author usually tries to balance their "screentimes" after Vol 4.

How come the main girl is Lapis? Ouka appeared first and was the one who changed him as a person. Mari's monologue and Takeru's sister took notice of something special is going on between him and Ouka. It's clear as day Ouka is the main heroine and love interest. He'll end up with Ouka, if this novel will ever have a romantic ending.

Lots of things, from volume cover illustrations to small stuff like Kiseki singling out Ouka, make it seem like she's the main heroine, but when you actually read the series she kinda isn't.
