Silver Link is also doing 2 other anime this fall season so split-cour for AntiMagic actually makes sense.

I would say that getting to release 6 volumes twice compared to 9 volumes once (I don't think anyone does two cour series in 12-13 volumes anymore, not even Kadokawa....) is another nice little factor.....

So the first cour will probably end at volume 5. Can't wait to see everyone's reactions at that ending.

I can't remember from the top of my head but has Silver Link ever done a split cour before (with just a season break)?

No.
I'm betting this will be their first though.

How detailed are the novels? My standards for these type of adaptations are 4 episodes = 1 volume, but sometimes I'm okay with 3 episodes, depending on the contents of the volume. 5 volumes seems rushed to me. That would mean 2 volumes gets 3 episodes and the rest only gets 2. I have seen enough adaptations where this kind of pacing totally ruined the series...

We're getting 9 volumes in two cours.

9 volumes in 24 episodes?! Silver Link should have celebrated their first split cour series by giving this a Durarara!!x2 treatment instead. 9 volumes in 36 episodes would have been more realistic IMO.

Well actually we don't know the amount of (splitted) cours xD

We are only guessing that there are 2 because 3 would be unheard of for a new series (after all Durarara was already established as a well selling anime in its first season)

A 9 volume adaptation has before; Tokyo Ravens. Through that one was produced by 8biit and spanned 2 cours, nevertheless hopefully this is done better since some vols in TR seriously got the shaft which made the plot harder to understand. AMA having a less complex one in that area should help a bit with condensation.

I acknowledge that there are decent examples of series that are made with this pacing and gave a somewhat enjoyable ride, but the majority of these rushed adaptations failed horribly.

8bit was mentioned and Absolue Duo instantly came to my mind as a negative example. They adapted the first 3 volumes in 9 episodes, or tried to adapt them, but the number of shafted scenes were already high by that time. Then they went with mashing Volume 4 and 5 together in the remaining 3 episodes, or again tried to mash them together with anime original content and made something utterly disgraceful that is not worth calling an adaptation.

That's why I prefer the slow? and steady 1 volume = 4 episodes pacing in these kind of shows. It could be more episodes, but never less than 3. It just leads to misery.

Titles of the first 4 episodes:

1「出撃!雑魚小隊!(Sortie! Small Fry Platoon!)
2「英雄召喚」 (Hero Summoning)
3「魔女入隊」 (Witch Enlisted )
4「死霊魔術師は笑う」 (Necromancer's laughter)

2 volumes in 4 eps... Them adapting 5 volumes in 12 episodes is possible now.

I'll wait to see how it turns out, but that is pretty fast.

Yeah, that kind of breakneck pacing is a bit worrying.

All I'm saying it's not that usual, I don't agree with this style of adaptation either because you said large cuts always happen unless the episode count is high enough to minimize that.

Yep, just like TR, there also volumes being given the 2 episode treatment. Honestly though, this may not necessary thing for this show. Largely because a lot of the interactions that happen between the action tend to lean on generic harem shenanigans you anyone who has been familiar with this medium has seen plenty of times. Some trimming of that and better focus on important will provide another metric for this shows to stand out a bit from it's other LN peers this season besides being edgier.
