How detailed are the novels? My standards for these type of adaptations are 4 episodes = 1 volume, but sometimes I'm okay with 3 episodes, depending on the contents of the volume. 5 volumes seems rushed to me. That would mean 2 volumes gets 3 episodes and the rest only gets 2. I have seen enough adaptations where this kind of pacing totally ruined the series...

Episode 1 pre-screening went well: http://yusaani.com/animation/2015/09/28/197499/

We are only guessing that there are 2 because 3 would be unheard of for a new series (after all Durarara was already established as a well selling anime in its first season) Quote:

A 9 volume adaptation has before; Tokyo Ravens. Through that one was produced by 8biit and spanned 2 cours, nevertheless hopefully this is done better since some vols in TR seriously got the shaft which made the plot harder to understand. AMA having a less complex one in that area should help a bit with condensation.

I acknowledge that there are decent examples of series that are made with this pacing and gave a somewhat enjoyable ride, but the majority of these rushed adaptations failed horribly.
8bit was mentioned and Absolue Duo instantly came to my mind as a negative example. They adapted the first 3 volumes in 9 episodes, or tried to adapt them, but the number of shafted scenes were already high by that time. Then they went with mashing Volume 4 and 5 together in the remaining 3 episodes, or again tried to mash them together with anime original content and made something utterly disgraceful that is not worth calling an adaptation. That's why I prefer the slow? and steady 1 volume = 4 episodes pacing in these kind of shows. It could be more episodes, but never less than 3. It just leads to misery. |

Yep, just like TR, there also volumes being given the 2 episode treatment. Honestly though, this may not necessary thing for this show. Largely because a lot of the interactions that happen between the action tend to lean on generic harem shenanigans you anyone who has been familiar with this medium has seen plenty of times. Some trimming of that and better focus on important will provide another metric for this shows to stand out a bit from it's other LN peers this season besides being edgier. |
