keep in mind the first 5 volumes were character focused, so the way i see it, they do up to volume 5 in one cour(giving the last two volumes in extra episode each). and then doing novels 6-9 in a separate cour |

TBF Tokyo Ravens also adapted 9 volumes with 2 cours and some volumes got the 2 episode treatment too. I can see limiting the first two volumes to 2 episodes each working, it just depends on how it's done.

Episode 1:
Lol, even in this series, it's not immune the "boob grab" scene. Ah, action was actually decent but the story feels flat. The character designs obviously reminds me somewhat of Nourin because of the character designer.

just watched the first episode raw, their keeping the meat of the story but cutting out some of the exposition. action was great in spite of the gore being toned down(though at least still present), and the VA's were all pretty good fits (the mc's in particular), but the pace was a bit too fast. the scene where they go from mc tending to ouka's wound to them raiding a warehouse was a bit too big of a jump. the plot itself is pretty good in that it's a military academy trained to go after magic users, so it's definitely the most original in premise of the current school battle adaptations. it just needs more room to breathe. overall a pretty good start.
for anyone who's read the LN, what are your thoughts on the adaptation currently |

No doubt, the 35th platoon looks very weak. lol I'm definitely interested in seeing the characters improve their skills. It's also a good sign that the first episode already includes some rather dark elements what with that dismemberment(?) and Ouka's tragic past.
Also yeah, obligatory "trip over something and get a lucky sukebe moment by landing on the girl in a suggestive position". I think I will stop commenting on these from now on as they've become part of anime like girls running to school with a piece of toast in their mouth. Or people breathing.

I don't even know how many times I've seen this pattern... I don't even want to count how many times I've seen it this season... I don' t even have the energy to bother saying anything. And it doesn't matter how good it supposedly gets later. Your audience has a limited attention span and within that span, you need to catch their attention. That's entertainment. You fail that, and it doesn't matter what happens later because they won't be watching it. The audience can choose to use their time watching any anime. However, the creator's wallet depends on his work. That said, I'm on the audience side and don't care what the staff is deciding, just what I see. PS: The bunny was good

A series shouldn't start out generic and forgettable then get interesting and unique later. Happily suffering through punishment for a lackluster reward is more than a little ridiculous.

The 1/4 (or 1/3 usually for 1 cour anime) of total episodes rule for watching anime is there for a reason: If sb watched the first episode of Madoka and then dropped it "as it is yet another generic Magical Girl show" it would be exactly the same. The major reason why most people with that mindset didn't drop it was for Gen in the writing department. Don't you think that is slightly unfair? An established writer can always write a bad story (that is the same for every kind of medium) then people will often say that he "had just a bad day" and will still read the next book - on the other hand new writers have to stick out of the crowd from the first book onwards, which something incredibly hard to achieve nowadays just because they started writing later? If you give a writer no chance to show the full extent of his/her ability, how can you judge him/her or the book/anime he/she wrote (for)? |
