Yeah that is Irori. She is probably the most "ideal" girl in the harem. She looks pretty, is a bit shy but not Frey level shy, is powerful but non violent, can take care of the house, even comes with free air conditioning (she can manipulate ice - Raishin believes Irori has the power of frost because Shouko hates hot weather).

(the manga looks a lot prettier than the LN illustrations, can't wait til when Char teases Raishin in bikini).

Raishin's master is someone else (not Shouko). To my knowledge Shouko never attended the academy.

I do not consider Shouko to be part of Raishin's harem even though she is way ahead of others by stealing a kiss (some have been seen by Raishin all naked though).

It happened on the last few lines of the novel: they were spying on Raishin and caught the kiss. Raishin felt their cold aura and they started to yell at Raishin. That's all. It has not been mentioned anymore in the future.

Oh, Alice also kissed Raishin, but no one beside Shin (her automaton, has affections for Alice) knows. Shin is pissed and jealous at Raishin.

Nothing from Shoko: I still see her as a guardian of Raishin along with Kimberley. Of course, given their affiliations, each of them may still have a hidden agenda. Although I feel that Raishin's presence over time have started to change how they look at Raishin. If one day all hell break loose between the various global powers I have faith that they will back Raishin's decisions.

Unfortunately, I secretly wish some day Shoko will die/go somewhere far far away from Raishin so Irori can be by Raishin's side.

Spoiler for Just finished vol8 (latest volume) - Major spoilers:

The story is starting to really heat up. Various factions have shown their faces in the last few volumes: magician association, the germans, the british government, lelouch a rebelling british crown prince and an associated secret society that seem to have exceptional powers, the headmaster of the academy, etc.

Night party wise: the Rounds have also made their moves by joining forces, voluntarily demoting themselves and rearranging themselves into three separate factions: Raishin and friends, one led by Asura (rank 2 candidate from Inida), one led by Aurica (?), the student rep+an alias Alice (1) has used repeatedly in the past with consent. Currently Raishin and friends are battling it out with Aurica's faction.

Vol 8 ended in a cliffhanger where Raishin's team almost lost due to running out of qualifying members (they were fighting in a 1v1 format) - saved last minute by Charlotte who revealed that she also demoted herself to join the decisive final fight. Her opponent will be Aurica herself along with her automaton that happens to be Sigmund's brother... (2)

A few other interesting events also took place in vol 8:
- Charlotte's father has been revealed. He has been captured by Edward the Black Crown Prince (the rebelling one). I smell a rescue mission some time in the future.

- The family head of Raishin actual fiancee (日輪) has been assaulted in Japan. I believe it would be interesting if the night party can be paused to give Raishin time for a mission in Japan. Would be better if Irori and Charlotte can tag along (with Raishin and 日輪). Having Raishin bring Charlotte to the ruins of his old home would be a somewhat touching scene imo.
- The black prince gave Raishin a ring (to summon a messenger I think) after demonstrating a doping drug based off of Io's magic amplifier research which allows the prince to fight on equal ground as Raishin. He believes him and Raishin are the same type of person, those who are trying to obtain things which are unrecoverable. He understands that Raishin wanted to seek vengeance upon Marcus and may accept help.



(1) Alice is the headmaster's daughter whom has a lot of mechanical implants. She is the antagonist for several volumes but at the end has fallen for Raishin. At the moment she is in hiding because she has been "abandoned" by her father and has caused too much trouble.

(2) Sigmund said there were originally 7 "magic sword" magic circuits. Some of them have been destroyed already (exact numbers given but I forgot - can look them up if people are curious). Whenever two of the swords cross paths one of them will have to break. Aurica has shown far superior control of the circuit: using the anti-matter particles to form a sentinel absolute barrier and creating an "anti matter ribbon" as a weapon.

Personally I believe this is an inevitable event: everyone, even Frey, has gotten substantial power ups through training while Charlotte has still been using the same few tricks over and over: her luster cannon, a barrage of destructive beams, and a homing arrow (3). Raishin and Lohi already admitted to each other that they have figured out a way to counter the destructive power of the magic sword circuit (but they did not want to reveal it when Aurica first challenged them - not sure if they want to hide it from Char or hurt Char's pride. Although Charlotte probably knows that Raishin and Lohi already have it figured out...).

(3) It is not entirely Charlotte's fault that she has been slacking. She spent one volume sunbathing and teasing Raishin in her bikini (well, more like we don't know what else she did all summer because Raishin is away from the academy - the author did show Frey and Lohi trying to get better given the limited amount of screen time). She spent the next volume being cursed to palm size by Alice (4).

(4) Mini-Charlotte's adventures:
- She spent a night in Raishin's room.
- She was seen naked by Raishin on multiple occasions.
- Since her magic powers are too unstable for her to bbq Raishin as usual, she was in complete deredere mode.
- There were some epic moments such as Yaya refusing to hand over honey as she feared Raishin will drench Charlotte in honey and lick her all over... of course, at the end Charlotte ended up drenched in honey when Yaya accidentally broke the bottle from Raishin praising her...
- Raishin saw Charlotte wrapped in ribbons and could not resist to associate it with "I am your present".
- There were times with good atmosphere with Raishin.
- To decurse Charlotte, three conditions must be satisfied
a) Charlotte and the chosen decurser must be 10cm apart
b) the proper phrase must be spoken
c) the decurser cannot lie
The decurser happens to be Raishin and the passphrase is "I love you"
- When Charlotte returned to normal, of course she was all naked, and Raishin's face was 10cm below her stomach....

Spoiler for Relationship wise...:

Raishin is getting the hang of harem building: he will unconsciously say things that brings his harem together, or even go as far as unconsciously acknowledge the girls as his harem...
The following dialog took place between Raishin and 日輪 (his fiancee from long ago)
background: 日輪 was defeated in a night party duel due to having her abilities sealed away. Raishin and one of her guards (who have liked her for a long time) became terribly injured to protect her. 日輪 wanted to call off the engagement because she believed she is unworth to be by Raishin's side.

"Yes, of course, you are a crybaby, a scary cat, a woman who is a burden to me"
"wait.... Raishin! What are you talking about!"
Not sure why Yaya started to throw a tantrum, tackled Raishin in the back. As Raishin pushes Yaya's head away, he turned to 日輪 and continued:
"the current you can not win against Charlotte and Frey. That is how useless you are."
"......"
"so, return to the original you. And then...."
Raishin smiled and said
"Do you best to take me away, that is what you clan does, right?"

日輪 is a powerful candidate. She is the princess and heir to a powerful clan in Japan (so nobility wise she is ranked higher than Charlotte). She has been in love of Raishin for far longer than anyone else and is also Raishin's fiancee. She is powerful enough to even send Yaya crying back to Shoko (Yaya's "I am Raishin's wife!" gets countered hard by 日輪). She too is shy, but will openly try to win Raishin over in front of the whole school. Raishin too, seem to like her a lot.

Note that Shoko said that she heard "great misfortunes" would fall upon 日輪: I do not consider what happened so far to be "great misfortune". I hope it is not a death flag...

Irori is still cute.

(Irori is worried about Raishin's engagement and tea started to spill over)
"Irori!"
"Yes, yes! What is your wish master?"
"Its about enough, stop letting the table drink tea."
"Ah! Sor..sorry! It is my carelessness....!"
Irori cleaned the table in a panic.
Yaya exhaled with her nose, started to stare at her older sister with suspicious eyes.
"What is it sister-sama.... ah, even though the cause can roughly be imagined"
"No, the cause is probably because its autumn... This beautiful world, sudden became tasteless---- just like looking at the world inside a faded painting"
"if you are thinking about Raishin and Aurica's engagement, it has been cancelled a long time ago"
"What! That is really--" (Earlier 日輪 had the same reaction when she learned about it)
Irori is surprised, she purposely coughed twice.
"What are you talking about Yaya. You idiot, I..I... there is no way something like that will take my attention way"
A smile broke on her face, looking far away at the lit up red leaves.
"When I finally noticed its already late autumn..... Look, the red leaves as if they are burning. Ahah, this world is so crimsonly beautiful----" (she is rather poetic - my fail translation cannot bring out the beauty of her words )
Pfft, Shoko couldn't resist her laughter, Irori face turned red just like the leaves.
"Please don't laugh master! I don't have any other meaning----!"

(Yaya, Irori, and Shoko discuss about Raishin's fiancee)
(Irori) "Lets not talk about that, master. No matter what happened in Japan, it shouldn't become an international problem right?"
"....what mischief are you trying to accomplish?"
"No, nothing! But, lets say, if she was hit by a falling hail, or died in a sudden snow storm, that would only be natural disaster right?"

Komurasaki became a lot more active after she spent time with Raishin during his training trip. Now she sneaks out of bed to find Raishin. In this volume she is pretty much always there when you need her.


Charlotte has gotten a lot more attention after the first three volumes (she is a lot cuter in the manga). Not going to write much here as I have already outlined her adventures above. She became friends with 日輪 and even 日輪 felt Char's affection and trust to Raishin (and indeed, she trusted that Raishin would not just get married because of his parents' arrangement - unlike Yaya and Irori, she was jealous but not too terribly bothered by the appearance of 日輪) (in other words, I think she has already mentally developed herself to be Raishin's wife).

There is a scene where Charlotte admited to Sigmund that Raishin can bring happiness into her life - that she will never be bored around him. She wished for the days to continue, only to be interrupted by Sigmund who reminded her of the reality. Sigmund explained there is only a month left in the Night Party. By the time Raishin earned the right to challenge Marcus(*), it would imply Charlotte and Lohi would have been defeated**. Sigmund further explained that his heart and magic circuit cannot be separated: that his defeat at the night party would likely mean the death of him. *insert imaginary scene where Sigmund tells Raishin to take care of Charlotte in his place*

(*) Sigmund also said, if Raishin wins he may return to Japan, but if he loses he would die.
(**) I do not understand why they cannot work together against Marcus, maybe there is a rule? I know he does not have to show up until there is only 1 candidate left, but will he exercise that advantage? On the other hand, I do not see why Charlotte, Lohi, and Frey wouldn't trust Raishin enough to surrender to him. They probably know Raishin will put his life in danger for any chance to reunite Charlotte's family and also find a "cure" for the twins. 日輪, ofc, has no intention to become wiseman - all she cares about is to be by Raishin's side.


Frey is still borderline main/side character. She just does not have much opportunities to show her affection. Her greatest weapon would be her chest that wobbles every time she nods/shake her head. I wouldn't mind if she gets a little bit more attention.


Henriette is also demoted heavily to a side character. She hangs out with Frey a lot.


I feel that Raishin's master has fallen back to more of a "teacher" role. While she does not like seeing girls crowd up around Raishin, I do not consider her as a real candidate.

The same can be said towards Io, who is still under investigation. Io somehow combined stolen technology from defeated enemies into two automatons and sent them to Kimberley (it has to do with the magician association) (they are on loan to Raishin's master atm). Io told the two automatons about Raishin (she consider her creations to be children of hers) and they openly called Raishin an idiot when they first met...



Alice is still in hiding. She is a tactical genius and somewhat overlaps with Raishin's role in the group. I believe she may come out of hiding and command Raishin's friends on a rescue mission if Raishin is ever in a pinch all by himself.


Oh, if there is one thing in common between Raishin and his friends, they all treat their automaton as part of their family. Maybe not Lohi, as his does not have the degree of self awareness as the others.

Rebelling prince + Raishin:
He claims that he has taken an interest in Raishin. He even gave Raishin a ring! It is uncommon for an arrogant self centered aristocrat who sees himself as the master of the world to swing that way... oh, since he almost killed Raishin a few times, he will be your "typical tsundere".

Charlotte and Sigmund
He has been watching over her and been by her side since she was born.

Sigmund and Yaya
In the manga they are kind of close... They are both automatons....

Lohi and Frey
They care of each other as siblings, maybe some day it will become something more...

Lohi and Raishin
The two of them shares the same blood - literally, after two blood transfusions (1x Lohi>Raishin, 1x Raishin > Lohi). They shared the same room for a long time while in recovery at the medical ward. Oh: recently Raishin wondered who lives next to him in the resident. That person has a habit of hitting the wall when it gets noisy between Raishin and his harem - that's something Lohi did a lot back when they lived together...


日輪 and her guard
Her guard grew up with her and one of them is madly in love with 日輪 who is madly in love of Raishin...

Yaya did find out. She got mad but that's about it.
Irori does not even get mad, she will most likely be heartbroken and try to find a way to get Raishin to accept her into his new life... (she already expressed she willingness to "serve" him with her other two sisters).

In vol8 there was a cooking showdown between Yaya and 日輪. 日輪's tempura was sabotaged (by a third party) while Yaya forgot to make noodles after making the tempura. Harem master Raishin decided to call it a draw as the dish would only be complete when you combine 日輪's noodles with Yaya's tempura.

He then revealed that he knew neither of them actually made the food, because 日輪, as a princess, is forbidden to enter the kitchen. He also recognized Yaya's tempura as Irori's cooking as he remember the taste after having eaten her cooking for two years...

This made Irori extremely happy but enraged everyone else.

After leaving Raishin in vol4, Yaya sworn to protect Raishin for an eternity. For better or for worse, she will still be there even after he is married to another woman.

Aurica (she might be named something else) is the head student representative. She is ranked 3rd in the tournament. She is the "head" of one of the 3 factions (other being rank 2 Asura and Raishin's).

She is one of Alice's illusive disguises in vol7 (and Alice even got into an engagement with Raishin under that alias), Alice was given consent to do so.

Aurica and Raishin's group are in a mini-tournament with rules as follow:
- They are to fight in a special tower with 5 floors
- Each floor will hold a member of Aurica's group, with Aurica at the very top.
- Raishin's group can move on after defeating one member, but only 1 can fight at a time
- The current "victor" must continue to fight in the next floor.
- regular night party rules still apply, breaking the tower and assisting the current fighter is prohibited.

Spoiler for Tournament results:

*Withdrew members are considered out of the battle

Opponent is uses an earth spirit that created the tower. The spirit can manipulate the tower to form various walls and spikes. Lohi won the first floor using a new technique which annihilates everything inside a barrier set up by his flying daggers, but is forced to withdraw (surrender) after his victory because he is overly exhausted. (but in reality his opponent admitted defeat so he can cause trouble later on)

Second floor houses a necromancer loli that can create spirit corpses and use them to attack. Frey took on the challenge but was unable to break through and her dogs started to fall into chaos. She let Rabbi (her main dog) bite her in the arm and the dogs went super saiyan mode (the twins have a heart that converts blood into magic power - Frey has mastered the heart so the dogs will no longer go berserk). By creating a sound vacuum, Frey cause the horde of zombies to fall out of control. Frey was disqualified because one of the sonic blasts created a small peephole in the walls of the tower and the loli was physically injured. The loli was forced to withdraw.

Third floor was guarded by someone with a giant golem (*). One of 日輪's bodyguards took on the challenge (**). The guard summoned a horde of spirit butterflies which stuck themselves to the golem that caused a giant explosion. The golem survived and the guard lost. The golem's master decided to withdraw as well because "his golem suffered more damage than expected".

(*) That "someone" is actually the Black Prince in disguise. The prince's actual automaton is Ikaros: a legendary automaton capable of twisting dimensions, giving unblockable attacks and impenetrable defenses, but not at the same time.
(**) The guard is actually a traitor. He was given orders from the head of the Izanagi (日輪's) clan to cause 日輪's defeat in the tournament so she would return to Japan. However the prince manipulated him to put the princess' life in danger.

Fourth floor was guarded by the brother of the Earth user, a wind spirit user. 日輪 took on the challenge but found out that 90% of her power has been sealed. She struggled to battle and can only defend using summoned walls. Komurasaki arrived in stealth to bring news of the seal and on the latest news in Japan. Raishin, 日輪's two guards, and Frey went out to destroy the six seals that seal in 日輪's power. The truth about the betrayal is found out and the second show down between Raishin and the prince commenced with a "draw" at the end as both combatants became overly exhausted.

The "Lady Justice" in the volume's title refers to the maker of the duping wine the prince took which amplified his powers to match Raishin's family technique.

Meanwhile, back in the tower, 日輪 summoned some spirit prince and hid inside it, using it as an absolute barrier but is still unable to attack. She sent out a bug to watch events unfold outside. Raishin and co eventually returned after their victory but were in terrible shapes. 日輪 has also reached the limits of her powers and the summoned prince started to lose control. Raishin and one of the guards risked their lives to undo the summon - but this disqualified both Raishin and 日輪. The wind spirit user is also in no condition to continue combat so he withdrew.

With one more floor to go but no more members left on Raishin's team. They were about to be defeated when Charlotte revealed she also demoted herself earlier to fight alongside of her husband Raishin. The fight between Aurica and Charlotte will commence in the next volume...

Has anyone listened to "Machine Doll" and "Moebius" as well as the Drama CDs for Unbreakable Machine Doll? If you've read the novels, the song "Machine Doll" is just crazy hilarious, while "Moebius" makes much more sense after the events of Vol 4.

Also, I was planning on getting Vol 9 because the story finally seemed like it was building up to something climactic after all the events that happened in Vol 8, but...I ended up prioritizing 魔弾の王と戦姫 and 黒鋼の魔紋修復士, and now I can't get Vol 9 'cause I'm broke.
