The way I read it, yes, Ippo weakness was psychological. I thought the chapter was going to be slow, but I thought it was cute, how his GF is similar to his mom, both want him to quit, but Ippo loves his career path. Ippo GF older brother are fighting for the same thing? Coming in "one piece" to the people they cherish? I thought he was gonna say to Ippo. Your to weak to protect my sister or some shit. hahaha

Ippo has always been mentally weak. As seen in Ippo x Sendo II, he got afraid, but clearly he can beat Sendo as seen in the first round knocking him out with a dempsy roll, but he lets that psychological mind games in boxing and taunting get to him, which why he grew as a boxer physically, but not mentally that's why Kamogawa in the past chapters said all these years of training was worth nothing, so he needs more training.

Ippo chapters don't release fast enough.
I think Ippo being mentally weak can largely be connected with his timid, kind and gentle nature. I can't remember who said it but if I remember right there was someone (Takamura maybe? Or maybe it's been several characters over the series) who said he's too kind to be a boxer. Either way, it's going to be interesting to see if he'll be able to overcome his psychological weaknesses. Then again, I don't want him to become too hardened because then he wouldn't be Ippo anymore. Am I the only one who's extremely annoyed that Hiroko is still going "I don't really care, so long as he's okay"? Ippo's her only son and I understand she's concerned for his safety, but it just irks me for some reason. |

Ippo's weakness isn't his nature, but his lack of drive for victory.
"You have gotten weak." As if its something recent. He has always been a bit of a wimp out of the ring, but thats nothing new. So what did he have when he fought Mashiba that he doesn't anymore? So he needs to recover his motivation that he had before he became comfortable as the Japanese champ. |

More of that ...
I want him to win for a thing : his mother. It's the first time in 1020 chapters i read that : "Mom you will come to my world match if i win ?" "Yes." That was the best part of this chapter.
