Well that whole Pariston affair concluded a bit worse than expected to be honest (especially after the victory he obtained last episode seemed like a bit of a gambit roulette) but at least he was an interesting character. It's a shame we won't get to see more of him.
It's also a little disappointing that Gon never gets to complete the challenge set out to him and actually hunt his father but then again that was never really much of a focus in this story despite it being the whole premise so I don't mind it ending anti-climatically now. Their meeting more than made up for that anyway: It was definitely amusing to see their long awaited reunion turn into the Jeremy Kyle show with a full audience. And it was nice to see that Ging was more fatherly than I expected. So Alluka is pretty much established as a hax now, but nonetheless it was nice to see Killua one up his brother. His talk with Alluka and Nanika was a total FeelsxFeels and I hope they're going to follow through on this development and make Alluka a part of the regular gang (since I don't know how Killua could possibly entrust Alluka to anyone else at this point). Although that would also mean constantly having a literal hax around a main character which might make future conflicts a little non-threatening. Though I wonder what Killua is going to do when he finds out his butler has been killed.

Alluka's definitely an interesting character. I appreciated the complexity of the gender issues that were dealt with her. I mean anime's no stranger to genderly ambigous characters, but the way the show treats how others enforce their view of her as a he, but Killua's respect of her being her and ultimately, being who Alluka chooses to be proves the sharp contrast that everyone regards Alluka as a threat and a freak while Killua just sees the most important thing in the world-- he really stole the show and the departure of "something" was rather depressing.
Meanwhile, Gon and Ging engage in the Hunter version of Jerry Springer, while Pariston is smirking away.

I find it kinda interesting how Madhouse went through a montage at the end of the latest episode. That really captured the memories of this entire journey.
Oh and reunion between Kite and Gon was quite something. I lol'd @ Gon being trolled this episode by Ging again though. That's just priceless. To me, this felt like a finale but there is another episode next week. Ah, this journey....

Killua is truly a lucky guy. A best sister and a best friend.
Alluka, you'll become a strong person. Not because you are a Zoldyack, but you have a great role model of a Zoldyack as an inspiration. Gon, after this, never take your fortune for granted anymore Kite grew up fast. |

Nice episode. First half was a lot dialogue based. Wish we would have seen more of Gon's group. Wonder what we'll see in the finale.
More like things that are convenient to them. It's like they are afraid of dying against Hisoka.

Gon and Killua are still friendly, but their friendship doesn't seem to be the same and they're going their separate ways. Despite that, they still couldn't bear to part. A bit of sadness there.
I enjoyed the discussion between Kite and the koala because it gave a good amount of insight into a relatively minor character. Even though he wanted to believe his reason for killing the girl was altruistic, he wanted to protect himself and not try and take on the other two ants. His beliefs and outlook on life were changed when he was reborn and he gets a second chance to live his life and better himself. Plus his speculation of the revival process is rather spiritual. As for why they don't go after Hisoka and co., I assume most can't beat them and the ones that could probably don't care/have their own goals to fulfill. |

I do kind of wished Madhouse extend the scene with Gon and Killua. To be honest I felt Togashi missed the mark there (It was only five pages). But luckily the production values and seiyuu work were off the charts. It was still pretty great.
Just one more episode left. |

Gah.
The talking Koala was unexpected but ended with an insightful spin. I don't see how Kite got mixed in with the red hair girl (especially since Pitou reanimated him), or why female ants get to retain so many human features...must be female anime treatment in play. World tree sequence reminded me again of Grandia. An amazing game if you like these sorts of stories. |

I really don't think that girl is kite; she seems very manipulative by telling people what they want to hear. The way they drew her with her eyes covered most of the time implies that she is hiding something.
Gin did say two very important things: 1) Kite has an ability that he will use when he definitely doesn't want to die, and 2) He would not want to sacrifice himself for Gon or anyone else in that kind of situation. I think that the real kite is still alive, and the key weapon that his nen ability came up at the very end could create a clone or something of that sort.

I trust Togashi - he's the genius here, and he has his reasons for playing this the way he did. But for me, it wasn't what I was hoping for.

If anything, this episode should be a last episode.
I wonder what they will do next week. Give me back HxH and Jojo... btw, Killua didn't mention Alluka's gender till the end. It was translator's subjective subtitle . In fact, he wasn't saying "her". Yes. |

I (as well as many manga readers) always found it questionable how Togashi chose to have Gon's reunion and real apology to Killua take place off-screen. In a way the whole of the Chimera Ant arc built up to this strain in their relationship, so it felt somewhat wasteful and anti-climatic not to actually see the resolution to that.
Although I suppose that might be because he didn't want their friendship to go back to normal just yet and has other plans for the future. The look on their faces as Gon and Killua parted ways feels to me like it implies more than just sadness about being separated from now on. I see something akin to regret there as well, as if they both know that what happened between them in the Chimera Ant arc (specifically during the confrontation with Pitou, of course) isn't completely water under the bridge just yet, and maybe there's a truer, more complete reconciliation between that's yet to come. Or maybe I'm just hoping that's the case, because I would like to have had more than what we got here as well. Either way, we might never find out, considering the state of the manga's serialization right now. |

That's certainly what I'd like to believe. Togashi generally seems to be thinking several arcs ahead, and he doesn't seem to do much by accident. I'm pretty sure he does have something bigger planned for G & K, but the question is whether he'll be healthy enough to ever bring it to light.
