There was only one Emperess, and her title was Tianzi.

Seems you don't know how the title itself works.
In the older chinese language, Zhi = son, Nu = daughter

No, has two meanings: Child and son.

is "female", and becomes daughter when used in the family-related context.

Please don't think I don't know the characters: I've used them all my life.

My point here is, 天子 is only used to refer to the Son of Heaven. You are taking it out of context.

I do know that 子 means a child, but most early chinese people would rather use "女" or "女子" to describe a daughter rather than using "子".

I'm not taking the thing out of context, mate.

Yes, usually Tianzi would mean Son of Heaven. However, 子 itself was neutral, WHETHER OR NOT early or later Chinese used it, and therefore technically, it can mean "Daugher of Heaven" when used on a female. That's why the most "accurate" translation of Tianzi is "Child of Heaven".

In short, your idea that "early" Chinese used 子 to mean ONLY "son" is just a line of thought that has no backing.

Not true.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese...rms_of_address

Besides, check out some of the old Chinese documents or literature. You won't see someone referring to daughters as "zhi". It's just like how "er" is used only on boys in those days.

And "Kaiser" is gender-specific. Kaiserin is used on female emperors instead.

1. That's because there was ONLY a single Emperess in history. The wiki info above is irrelevent to our discussion.

2. Again, for Heaven's sakes, Tianzi itself is a title. It's not your usual child, son, or daugther issue here. For all the damn you can argue, when 子 is used in a title, it's rendered gender-neutral. Let me ask you: Do you use the characters regularly in your life, or are you relying all your info in wiki and google?

3. The only gender-neutral title I mentioned was Tenno. Read my post again.

You are not justifying your stand here.

The fact that there's only one Empress in chinese history doesn't change anything. The term itself was created to address to emperors, and Wu Zetian was a throne-usurper, Emperors of China were supposed to be male-only, since early Chinese were all sexists.

As for your third point, my fault. I read the wrong post.

I dunno, could the reason Tian Zi always/is usually referred to boys is because its only for the emperor and almost all the emperors have been boys!?
For the record, I am a Chinese from China.

Now stop this stupid derailing of the thread and give us more pics!!

What the? Wasn't expecting something like that. And it includes all three of them, eh? For some reason, C.C. looks rather strange in that pic.
