As I said, it's interesting to wonder if that was actually legitimate pleasure, or just flipping out from the titan form. We know it happens to Eren, so it may be common among the human-titans.

The most controversial thing Annie did was swinging that soldier's corpse until his body broke in half and in the wrong way. In that case she was actually toying with a human body, while the rest could still be considered a necessity due to the fact that she was being attacked.

I'm agreeing with Zburator theory here, she could have lost it at that point. Have titan mind take over for a moment. If anything, Eren is not the nicest guy in his titan form and clearly loses his shit.

The central theme around Annie is that of the fundamental nature of humans: are humans fundamentally "good" or "evil"? Obviously, "good" and "evil" are subjective abstractions.

From the material presented, I'm convinced that Annie views [the overwhelming majority of] humanity as fundamentally evil, given her perspective on the Military Police and inner people. For this reason, she sees little value in humanity and has little to no qualms killing people.

That being said, I do not consider Annie as a character deserving sympathy. Bottomline, the end does not justify the means (well, usually not). Her underlying flaw is pigeonholing her victims and aggressing on people indiscriminately to the point of genocide. The fact she spared Armin shows how imperfect her absolute ideology is.

She's an interesting character with curious motivations, admirable for having strong yet misguided convictions. But any sensible person would know she's beyond redemption.

I don't really think it's a flow. As you said she hates twisted government. Armin on the other hand was always nice to her to the point that he called her "a good person".

He is a contradiction to her believes.
