Wielding one of the japanese imperial treasures would be overkill. Settle with a weapon forged by the legendary blacksmiths like Goro Masamune or Muramasa should be enough. Especially Muramasa.

Japanese imperial treasure is Kuzanagi no Tsurugi, the sword of legend that Suzanoo no Mikoto got after killing Yamata no Orochi.

There is a better sword though. It's name is Totsuka no Tsugi (the name of the sword I just mentioned, it has many names, but it seems like I forgot them, so I instead use this name since it's more easy to remember). It's the sword that Izanagi no Oukami used to kill his son, Kagetsuji for being the cause of his mom's death (Izanami no Oukami, wife to Izanagi, died because she gave birth to Kagetsuji the fire god). And later Susanoo used it to kill Orochi. So it's basically the best sword from Shinto religion. No one knows where this legendary sword is now though.

I don't think we should compare famous swords to legendary swords. Muramasa and Masamune are really famous but not legendary. Excalibur, Collbrande or Durandal on the other hand.
