I think I'm around the half-way point or so (long... orz), so for the moment, decided to collect my current thoughts (don't know localization names, so I'll try my best)...

How would you rate Vesperia? How is the length compared to Abyss? Worth buying a 360 just for this game?

Without even playing Abyss...
I can not think of any moment where it is worth buying a whole game console for just one game... Especially the 360, which is quite expensive...

Short answer. No.

Length they're really the same pretty much.

Storywise and characters Abyss easily wins out in that category.

Gameplay wise Vesperia is a refinement of Abyss so there won't be much difference there either. In fact Vesperia is simply just quite pretty, thats about it but its not even the most dynamic of graphics. Some of the high level skills looked far more extreme in some of the other games simply because of the way they were done.

You're getting basically a good all-round RPG thats got some good gameplay and happens to just be very very pretty but the story and characters feel weaker than your standard fare. Very good by normal RPG standards but lower end of the good boundry for the Tales series.

And I'm just quoting this because it really needs driving into peoples heads. It doesn't matter what console it is, if you can't pick out more than three to five games you badly want chances are its a bad purchase.

I used to think Rita was more broken...until I found out about Tension skills.

Invincibility due to infinite lv. 4 OL + an effload of Savage Wolf Fury MAs to keep regaining the lv. 4 OL = godlike.

Not just tension. You can abuse free-run attacks with Yuri to force enemies to stand back up. There isn't any need to even have overlimit at level 2 on fallen enemies because of it.
I still think Rita is worse because in Vesperia they forgot to make the bosses overlimit and level 4 overlimit immune to stun, so with overlimit Violent Pain spam you are guaranteed a stun while they are being spammed multiple hits in overlimit.

For some reason I think im starting to lose interest in this game even though I was convinced I'd stick with it for two entire playthroughs. After I got everyone to around level 75 (on Hard) and obtained a really good sword for Yuri that put his strength over 2000, it felt like Yuri was the only character worth a damn. His skills which are unique to only him are insanely efficient for the amount of skill points they take to use, and there is virtually no downside to playing him anymore. He used to at least fall behind in DEF, HP, M.DEF, and AGI compared to many of the other characters, but now he is literally a god and his gear isn't special by any means. That just makes me feel less interested in the idea of learning other characters, because of how inefficient they are in comparison. Its laughable that I can do a 100 man melee with Yuri and complete it with 10 minutes to spare, and for some reason run out of time around 80 kills with Judith. Never-the-less its still sort of fun when I play as Yuri and forget about the fact that he totally imbalances the difficulty of the game.

Grade shop isn't tied to achievements, but it is necessary to achieve some. If you have played any other Tales of games, the grade shop lets you spend grade you earn throughout the game from battles if you are playing in normal difficulty or higher after beating the final boss. Perks include 10x experience, inheriting skills, etc.

Spoiler for Yeager-sama, saikou~su: Let's see... Story... Well, fuu, hahaha, it's long, it's long... Unfortunately, it's been rather disappointing so far. When the story gets moving, it can get pretty interesting, but when it doesn't move, the whole thing feels like some big game of chase/tag where you run around and do things in a repeated pattern... The whole Find Flynn thing in the beginning... >_> Visually... Surely I can't find a problem here. Quite amazing, as expected of the xBox! Moving clouds, changing day to night (Ahh... Want to do Pokemon again...), fast load, changing weapons, etc. System... Personally, because there is no need, I didn't really bother to figure out what most of the skills or whatever are... But the linking enemies system is nice. Very entertaining on that part. Characters... To summarize them all, it's "normal". Not really dislikable, not really likable, somewhere along that boundary. Yuri: The most interesting part of RPGs is to watch the protagonist grow (Like Emil), so Yuri, who already starts off in the game as Mr.Cool and Perfect kind of lacks in that part... To be honest, except for the occasional assassinations he does, he doesn't have much appeal... Just shows off how cool he is, with his, to be frank, rather impossible movements in battle and whatsoever. As expected of a 21 year old, I guess. His little "judge the criminals who can't be judged by law" streak is quite interesting and scary... The eyes~ They are dead... It takes several slashes to kill a soldier with a sword, it takes one rock... Why doesn't he just become a rock slinger...? He can use an axe or sword. Too bad, Richter uses both at the same time. Estelle: AKA, Astel. AKA, Estepedia. Miss Princess, huh. Pointing your finger at people is rude, you know~~? Hmm... Rather basic/stereotypical heroine, I guess? Very (overly so) kind, uses Pikohammer, the such. At the beginning of the game, she even acts like a weaker version of Collete, behavior-wise. While I do not find her irritating, I must find it tiring to follow her every little request. Lets give the box, lets find Fero (or whatever that bird's name is), overall, the main part of the story so far has been following what she wants. Let's not forget it was because she got too caught up using her amazing healing abilities that Velius (the talking fox) went berserk and had to be killed and Don had to harakiri. .........................Why does she have a rape eyes portrait in her skits...?! As expected of Rena... High-fives, FTW~ Flynn: Incredibly reminded of Suzaku/Lelouch. Heck, their lines at each other when they first met in the game was almost exactly the same as Code Geass! Poor guy... Ends up cleaning up Yuri's messes, unable to take back Estelle, has to fight his friend. It's busy, isn't it. Personally, I'd side with Flynn on this matter. We have laws for a reason, and just because one feels a different way doesn't give them reason to break it... even... if it saves many people... Un... Troublesome problem... Uses Demon Fang... Protagonist technique went to someone you can't really even play as... Repede: Air... He barely appears at anything anymore... Oh well, whatever... Dog has his uses at times, I guess. Karol: Recently been growing up, hasn't he. I have to say he does well for someone as young as him, no? Thinking about it now, there really isn't much to say. Tsukkomi role, shota role, something along that line. Voice was annoying as hell though... Getting used to it. Rita: Tsundere, good. Yuri tsundere, double good. I guess I'm running out of things to say. Occasionally stands out, but overall not too impressionable, I guess? Besides her usual obsession with blastias, she doesn't get much of a good role... Yeah, running out of things to say. I guess Tales/other games are doomed (not in a bad way, I guess) to have these stereotypical personalities, I guess. Maybe that's why I liked Ratatosks characters so much, because they stood out among the Tales games I've played... Recently, she's been a tad on the annoying side... Maa, it's fine... Raven: Incredibly stereotypical character... Well, he has his occasionally funny moments, I guess. His spell chant and bow techniques are also quite entertaining to watch. I guess I'll wait and see what his great big secret is... Judith: Personally, the lowest character in the party to me. I guess she has some reason, but personality, appearance, actions, nothing appealing at all. Her movements in combat are something to behold though... Yodel: The prince who is also a candidate like Estelle. Whenever he pops up, I'm reminded of the Yodel from Fire Emblem... Too bad that old man got instantly killed by a Wyvern Lord... Deko and Boko (Yuri's nickname-wise): Stupid tutorial knights... Poor guys with no real abilities but to get pummeled by Yuri... Lagou: In the end, what was with that flying sword... Lame item. And rather than a sword, I think it was more a chainsaw... For some reason, it was rather sad when he jumped off... Don: Hmm... Bye-bye, old man. Didn't leave much impression on me, except his harakiri scene... What is this, Japan? I thought we were on some foreign land... Monster-Hunting Swords (all three, in general): I'm sure they have some reason, but their incredibly biased view on monsters is annoying. Oh well, I'm sure there is a death flag somewhere in the story for them... Nan... Super JOKE Name Time! Nande deshou~ Nannanda yo, kore~ Nandesuka~ Nanttekotoda! Yeager: Yeagerrrrrrrrrrrrr!! Iegaaaaaaaaa!! Haa... Haa... calms down Phew... My favorite character and probably the only one character I have invested emotionally on. So, SO amusing, with his Ru-language where he inserts random English and katakana into his lines, stress the pronunciation for no reason, and just has this idiotic way of talking. Very lovely~ Kyaa~~ >_< If he somehow dies in the story, I'm SeRiOuSlY GoInG tO sNaP! Like...well, snap... :f rustrated::fru strated::frust rated: Goshu & Drowatto (sp?), the red and green hair Drowatto's way of talking is... annoying, in an amusing manner (nyo~n, yon, etc.). But just like Yeager, that's what is good. Though, uee... fingernail color... Leviathan's Fang's Banana grunts... Nice movements there. Zagi: 3D Decus, welcome back. Except he went from M to S... Funny guy, I guess, but Decus was a thousand times cooler. Wish Zagi could go "ALICE-CHAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!" in this game too... Kratos: Papa! What are you doing here! Maa... My thoughts so far, I guess. Though besides the graphics, there wasn't any amazing part otherwise. -The characters are well done, but they aren't my tastes regardless. -The BGM... Especially past 3/4 of the game, the BGM starts feelings like it has been reused for the 100th time... The sense on where to put which BGM on which scene was rather lacking. There were a few great moments though in the climax though. Of course, this felt more of the problem that it seems there weren't that many event BGMs or there was no sense at where it was put, but the overall BGMs themselves are decent. -Story... Hah. It became rather messy in the last third, where sudden developments occur one after another. For example, Sodia, who somehow managed to get on the rising platform and comes running in to stab Yuri, which conveniently allowed him to be saved by Duke. After that, the final big strike was the "Spirits" or the whole "Mana" thing... That felt completely like a big cheat. "This is supposed to happen, but it isn't. Guess why, it's the spirits' power!" Like that, the story solves a bunch of problems by going "Spirit power". It was sudden enough when Estelle's problem about being a poison to the world or whatever was negated... Because of the spirits! Wow! Awesome cheat! And the overall tension was surprisingly low after that Alex guy died, where they basically start a whole new scenario trying to collect spirits... near the climax. And Duke was... well, uninteresting. In the end, he just rants and ends up as one of those last bosses who don't trust humans anymore and are trying to "save" the world. Ah... But it was nice that he looked like Kirameki (points to profile avatar) But the ED was nice, showing the epilogue for the characters. I guess the book Estelle wrote was Tales of Vesperia, just guessing from the obviousness... What was Zagi's point in the sto... no, never mind. Conclusion: Vesperia=Overestimated Ratatosk=Understimated ... Guess the next is Abyss (anime)... We barely learn anything about any of the characters. Why the hell is Flynn on the box art when he's so inconsequential to anything in the game? Why does Repede have a pipe from his old master who's never mentioned (At least in the main story)? Why does everyone break out into shitty philosophical babble right before the final boss fight? Why's the entire epilogue told through crappy uncolored sketches? The world may never know.
