First of all, Yagami Light is not a good guy. Secondly, Makoto is worse than Light. Thus, you should actually fix up the title of the thread to something like "Ending - Protagonist's Defeat".

Light Yagami could be considered the good guy of the series. It all depends on how you view Death Note. In my opinion, L is the good guy, since he's trying to stop killings. However, the other half of Death Note fans are no the side of Light, since he's killing criminals. It all depends on who the viewer sees as right or wrong.

Im starting to lean forward Full Metal Alchemist for this suggestion; since a third of the movie was filled w/ twist and turns and in the end

they didn't really get what they wanted but everything became a forgotten journey or a lost journey

However the movie is a must watch after you watch the entire series to sum it up for an alternate ending(movie shows what happens after the series) if you weren't satisfied w/ the series ending.

In my first spoiler I said where L dies, To me L was the good guy and I meant if the series ended on the episode he died, Then that would be the type of ending I am looking for.(I believe 1 of the movies ends with his death, Which would be a better example) However the actual end of the series is still a good example, After watching ~40 eps I grew to like Light :/

As for school days, Mokoto started out as a "good" guy, Though yeah he did get bad. And kotonoha/sekai(I forgot their names, I think thats the 1) died to, Both of which could be considered "good"

I seen school days, and FMA - Still gotta watch the 2nd season :/

After thinking about Death Note and School Days, I actually liked the fact that it was from the bad persons(As I saw some of the girls in School Days and L in death note as the good people) point of view, To extend on the "good guy loses" I'd like 1 where it is from the bad persons view.

So uhh it's hard to explain, So I'll try once more
-What I'm looking for is something where the good person loses in the end.
-Lose can mean anything, Dying, Ending up lonely(friends dying, Or just not finding love in a romance), Or anything as simple as say he's been chasing a crinimal for months.. And then that person gets away, Or an extreme case of everyone loses, The world blows up or something.(Just examples)
-Preferably(but not needed) from the "bad" persons point of view.(Think Death note and School days)
Another good example would be Burst Angel, So yeah if anyones seen any of those 3 animes they should know what I'm looking for.

Berserk, but anime version only since the manga is not going to be over for a long time. The anime adapts the Band of the Hawk arc from the manga, which by itself makes for a pretty strong story, and it ends in a horrific and disturbing manner for the main heroes.

Two pages and no mention of Kaiji? That's a very gripping show and the results don't really go his way/work to his advantage because of some of the decisions he makes, but you just can't help but cheer for him.

Nobody's really mentioned any shoujo/romances, but I'd try Bokura ga Ita (anime), KimiKiss ~Pure Rouge~ (in a sense....? A lot of people were upset by the ending) and sola.

How does Bokura ga Ita fit into that category? sure the characters go through hard times but i wouldn't say it would be a reasonable suggestion for the OP also .. it would be almost comparable to Itazura na Kiss as in sure there hardship but its all is well

Maybe an anime i might suggest would be something like "H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~" I have numerous reasons for that but I would leave unsaid for people who are interested.
