Question Brand-New Anime viewer, wondering where to go next

First, I would like to say that this appears to be a ver nice forum(people seem nice anyway)- its great to be here.

I am a very new Anime viewer, and my experience with it is pretty much limited to (yes, go ahead and laugh) Tenchi Muyo! which was given to me as a gift. I have pretty much watched every piece of Tenchi that I can find since then, and now that I have finished the OVAs(What a terrible ending!) and the movies, I am curious as to where to go next.

Now I know some of you will reccomend to just pick another Harem comedy - and I may still do that. But it seems like Tenchi is different then the others, especially ones like Love Hina(spelling?). I am just afraid of delving into another world and being disapointed.

The thing I see in tenchi is the perfect mix of Comedy, Romance, Action and Reality. It isn't overly-magic filled, yet isnt perfectly realistic. Its not a laugh fest, yet does incite chuckes quite often. Not a bloodbath, but has action, and not boderline-Hentai but has romance. I know this may seem really picky, but where do I go from here?

I have looked into Inuyasha, which seems like my best bet now. I know it isnt the same genre as Tenchi, but from what I have seen it appears to have a similar atmosphere.

I'm done talking now. Reccomendations?

You may enjoy Kage Kara Mamoru:

Lots of humor and offbeat characters. Nothing suggestive sexually, other than a jealous reaction of a girl who can't spend enough time with her female friend. She doesn't seem to have any sexual interest in her female friend. Just wishes she could have some time with her without the boy always being there. I'm not comfortable with any homosexual suggestive content in anime, and won't recommend any with it. So I can definitely recommend this anime.

Anyway, it's an absolutely hysterical anime. Currently running in Japan and being subtitled at quite a quick pace by at least two fansub groups.

If you got a chance..... look for Ranma 1/2 - it from the same creator of Inuyasha. It has a good mix of romance, action and comedy. It has 161 epi, 11 OAV, 3 movies.
