The first one is a little fast. Maybe slowing it down a little?

Sure. The loop has 4 parts:
1) Rub eye
2) Raise head and open eyes
3) Pause for a second with head up and eyes all the way open
4) Lower head and close eyes

Which of those parts do you want slower? or is it all of them?

Too slow and the animation is too rough too. How 'bout slowing the part when she's rubbing her eyes and then give it a little pause after she opened her eyes?

It's rough because it's too slow. It can't be smother without adding more frames, which would make the gif bigger.

Since the filesize we can use here is fixed, adding more frames means image quality (color smoothness) has to decrease. I can mess around with that if you want. (See Reverzer0's example quoted at the top of this page.)

If I can do it just by messing around with the frame delays, I'd rather do that though

Is this more like what you had in mind?

Let's see if decreasing the quality a little might do the trick.

And yes, it's just like that but if you can smoothen it out then it would be even better
