Ellen was more innocent simply because she did not kill any kids and women that are mothers. Ellen had no choice to turn Reiji into a killing machine because Scythe Maste wanted to.

I really don't know what to say here, I'm speechless...

Even now I can't judge whether it was a good ending or not as it certainly leaves a bitter/sweet after taste. I mean for fuck sakes, is a happy ending so hard to ask for? Even if Reiji and Elen will still stand the risk of being hunted down by inferno (which is conveniently one of the biggest plot devices of the series by disappearing from this final arc then returning just to assassinate Reiji), I really could have down without such a thing actually being shown on screen as it rather gives me more hope.

Granted Reiji is a complete fucking idiot for killing Cal I did wish that he would make Elen happy in the end but that didn't happen.

However, such a sad end does illustrate the harshness of the underworld and being a killer at that. They have always ran the risk of being killed by the same bullets the used to kill others and while it isn't what I expected, it does hit home the point in quite a shocking way.

I think the only way I can describe the ending is "fucked up" and I am rather undecided as to whether I actually enjoyed it or not (and I don't think I have ever been so torn by such a feeling before).

The line is rather fine here for me whether this is a good or utter crap conclusion but right now I don't feel like thinking about it even more. One thing's for sure, it's damn depressive.

(Reiji is dead for sure but whether Elen is too is left open in the most evil way possible...).

Could of also been the voice, They way Characters deliver lines makes alot of a difference for me. Still adaptations.. it can be hard to reproduce the characters in the same way people saw them in the original work, plus it also makes it harder when they change the characters a little bit.

Being playing the game. Just Meet Cal in the Streets and went to the apartment, I still love her in the game, mabye even more!

With Ellen, Though I never cared too much for her in the anime, I've taken a liking to her in the game more. (like her voice in the game better) I'm a little dissapointed they left out the scene in which Ein acts not like a Phantom, not like Ein while being Chased. (mabye it was too sudden..)( [episode 9] When Reiji is trying to Hi-Jack a Car.) I really liked that scene. We hear more emotion from her, She was panicing and Reiji's kindness really clouded her thinking. Part of her was thinking to herself she was not Ein anymore, and this carelessness resulted in her capture. She never acted in this way.. but this time she panicked. But Alas she meet with SM and she falls back into his control.

Why are there people saying that Elen ate a flower petal and died? That's just ridiculous... If there was ever an anime that had a main character die from eating a FLOWER PETAL, the company that made that anime would FALL. That's even worse than having them killed by a passing carriage, it's just plain STUPID. And even if the anime was realistic, (which it is NOT as I pointed out in my other post) the fact that there would be poisonous flowers that would kill someone if they ate even one petal on a field right in front of a town is questionable from the start.

The reason why I posted was, need to know the name of the insert track thats repeatedly used in almost all episodes . I would like to state an example from Ep 15 18.00 onwards . Also this other track which appears in Ep 20 at 20.52..

Finally watching the episode in English does a lot to clear away most of my doubts, which is actually a good thing.

I had a different image in my mind, in spite of reading all the descriptions and looking at the pictures that were posted here. I don't know if I can ever call this brilliant, but at the very least I can respect it a whole lot. I'm actually even a little thankful.

Everything feels more natural and less forced than what it seemed in written form.

For all my abstract and uninformed complaining about this lacking build-up, the actual episode and its own dialogue deliver more than enough of it. The twist doesn't really come out of nowhere this way.

I'm starting to think that the last couple of scenes need to be taken symbolically or even metaphorically in order to understand and appreciate how Elen is able to keep on living without Reiji. Trying to make sense out of it in a strictly literal manner leads absolutely nowhere, unless you want to suffer a headache.

Reiji is dead and was certainly killed by Inferno but if one might be so bold, I'd even suggest that worrying about the way he died isn't important. Perhaps he didn't even die like that. Elen's final internal monologue and her smile make a lot more sense if you look at the last sequence figuratively, purely as a symbol, at least in my opinion.

Of course, it's also possible to have a completely different interpretation, including one where both of the characters are in fact dead, but that really depends on what the viewer wants to make of this ending.

This might not convince others, one way or another, but it's enough to satisfy me.

BeeTrain did an ending where it's left up to the viewers to decide the ending.

Reiji could have been killed along with Elen, seeing as the ending where Elen turns back and smiles, I don't know....just doesn't make sense, unless she died along with him as well.

We also can't say he really is DEAD for sure, I mean, when he got shot 4 times by Sycthe, he was still alive after all and I'm sure he did get one or two vital shots out of 4. He might have survived, he might have not.

There's also the possibility that the bullet penetrated him and went straight for Elen, killing them both, but highly unlikely.

It was a really strange ending. It's up to the viewers to decide how to take it. I want to believe this.

I want and need to rewatch this series again.

If you're going to adapt an VN, at least give us the VN ending you piece of sh*t Bee Train.

Man, Elen's pathway just doesn't get any breaks. Screwed over in the OVA and now this...

There was no logical reason to shoot one and not the other when both were together.

I choose to believe that he's still alive. One bullet shouldn't kill the guy. Elen would have reacted differently if she thought that he was dead imo. It's just a reminder that they have to keep running. He always keeps his promises after all.

You don't really see his body at the end. You have Elen saying something about becoming transparent. So they are prob still on the run.

Finished watching the episode. Well, I thought it was brilliant. I can't feel that Reiji's dead and all. I really don't have such feeling.

I'm happy I watched this ongoing. If we just exclude that bullet and Reiji's fall to earth, we can say he's pretty alive. Anyways, I hate animators for killing him or make us think they killed him. Won't there be an official list of dead like in CG, stating that Reiji died?

Your views on the ending pretty much depend on whether you are a glass-is-half-empty or a glass-is-half-full type of person. I like it that its never clear and that they leave it for the audience to decide.
I just have to laugh a little at the ones saying that this ending is fitting, you guys are basically saying that happy stories must always end happy and sad stories must always end sad for it to be a "good" or "fitting" ending.

Alot of thoughts ran through my mind, like Elen was plotting the death of Reiji or something, but that's just my wild imagination and people should ignore this comment. =)

That's the thing. If it's an injury that's enough for him to literally topple over, I don't think Elen would just be laying there thinking "oh he's all right." Also, I doubt she'd just lay there when there's always the chance someone will either come back or follow up.

Not necessarily. Rather, it's a fitting ending given the overall themes of the story. Ex. if there was a heavier emphasize on redemption and Reiji wasn't shot at the end, the story would still be overly sad, but reach a happy end. It would also be fitting for Reiji redeeming himself, breaking free, and living to protect Elen.

It's not just her words. Her actions are the most ambiguous part of the ending in my opinion.

It also makes this an unfaithful adaptation of a VN if he's dead. That's not the way Elen's main pathway ends.

Also for Reiji being dead, Elen would also have to be dead. She's not that far away from him. The cart would have seen both on approach imo.

That doesn't seem very likely. Reiji would've seen it, and the driver was coming from the complete opposite direction of Elen.
