The infamous bath house scene from episode 2 makes an appearance Except Shinkurou and Murasaki aren't as close to each other as they were, but nonetheless she still allows him to hold her hand

Chapter one
The story opens where Shinkuro encounters a kidnap and saving the little girl in peril. The culprits were a psychopathic elderly couple who kidnaps kids and feed on them thinking that that will keep them young.

Only after a couple of month after the Kuhoin incident, Shinkuro goes to Fumitei ramen shop where a shopkeeper without a smile serves a glass of water and asks for his order. It is Ginko and repeating the order to confirm adding “Lolicon(Lolita complex)” at the end.
Shinkuro had told the recent event concerning Murasaki and his conflict with the Kuhoins leaving out details but after finding out that it had involved Benika she had repeatedly criticized the story as obscene and at the end Shinkuro was labeled “lolicon”.
As Shinkuro was enjoying his dinner he receives an unexpected call from a very unlikely person. As Shinkuro picks up the call while being harassed by Ginko that no calls are allowed within the store the caller confirming if it was Kurenai Shinkuro then introduces herself as Lucy Mei of Akuu Shokai.

At a park Shinkuro was wondering why does Akuu Shokai, the global underground human resources agency infamous for providing mercenaries and other shady personnel for hire like “Iron Arm” Daniel Blanchet with him.
“Do they want revenge?” Shinkuro thinking to himself.
He was also wondering how was she going to recognize himself. Do they have a picture of himself on files like in the movies?
When suddenly the mystery thaws out hearing a shout, “Kurenai Shinkuro fresh man at Seiryo Guken High school! Are you here? If you are here please speak out”, “Kurenai Shinkuro?”
Shinkuro caught off guard runs towards to the source of the commotion, a lady who seems to be in her late twenties, that was shout out Shinkuro’s personal information in public.
“Nice to meet you Kurenai-san, I was worried for a moment that I would miss you since I forgot to ask for your feature and/or not decieded on a signal.”
After a light conversation, Lucy formally introduce herself as division sub-manager of human resources in charge of finding fresh “personnel” to work for their firm, asking Shinkuro if he is willing to join the firm.
After a lengthy sales talk by Lucy, Shinkuro tries to end the conversation by turning downs the offer but Lucy butts in criticizing Shinkuro as a kid who does not know the real world. She then continues by asking him if he had ever considered the future. She points out that with no connection nor finance, there is no way he is going to become big as a “dispute negotiator” also adding on that even Benika was at one point involved with an organization to gain the needed connections which made her what she is today.
Lucy then adds that Kurenai is still ill mature to work independent without the needed experience, precious experience he can obtain through an organization like Akuu Shokai. She also points out that if he had that experience he would have been better prepared for meeting like this when he is called out by a person like herself belonging to an organization like Akuu Shokai.
She then starts her closing speech telling Shinkuro that she sees great potential within him and that her organization will help in polishing himself to reach that limit within him to step up to the next stage.
They depart one another without reaching an agreement but Lucy adds that she will keep in touch.

Feeling a little sleepy after a restless night thinking about his future, Shinkuro finds himself entering the school gates. He is just a freshman at high school but a full year had elapsed after deciding in becoming a dispute negotiator. Deciding to follow his mentor, Benika’s foot steps, it was natural for him to aim for the top, but at the moment it seemed as if it was a reckless goal for him to pursue that dream.
Even his diehard painful effort, training eight years at the Hozukis seemed meaningless, only as a mere basis for what he needs to become what he desires.
Problems surmount in front of him and can not be solved by taking simple runaway cases and/or finding vandalism culprits. He thinks to himself that he needs to get involved in something BIG. That is the only way he can obtain the necessary experience to prepare himself for the next stage Shinkuro thinks to himself.
A thought of advancing to college with assistance of the Hozukis crossed his mind but diminished quickly cursing himself of even considering it. He is barely supporting himself, paying tuition for high school and made him sick to the stomach even thinking of reach out for support to his master.
The Hozukis are wealthy and will be more than happy to lend a hand but that was wrong. Shinkuro cures himself in thinking of an easy way out. He had received more than enough support from them and asking for more is unacceptable. He utters that he must change. He must evolve and considers if the temptation by Akuu Shoukai was a good chance.

He opens the door with a gloom on his face finding Ginko, as usual first to come to class, facing a laptop at her desk.
Shinkuro turns on the lights as he places his bag on his own desk. He approaches Ginko and ask her a question, “Ginko, how much do you have in savings?” as he passes Ginko the usual pastry and milk breakfast he ritually picks up at a nearby convenience store.
Ginko responses as she receives the white plastic bag, “Savings? And how much do you need.” As she lets out a slight sigh as she looks out of the laptop.
“What??” Shinkuro seems to have been caught off guard when Ginko misinterpreted his last question.
Ginko adds that she will not take interest asking the amount and when Shinkuro needed the money.
Shinkuro responds hastily that he was not asking for a loan merely interested in how much Ginko in the information trading business had in saving and demanded to stop looking at him like a fed up mother looking at a spoiled child importuning for some petty cash adding that he had never asked Ginko for money.
Ginko retaliates reciting the amount and time Shinkuro asked her for money starting as a first grader at elementary in the summer.”
Shinkuro waves the white flag answering he will pay the amount in full and continues again how much she had in savings.
Ginko bewildered, asking the nature of the question, but answers frankly that it is in the 8 digits JPY (equivalent to 6 digits USD) figures.
Shinkuro immediately regrets asking, finding out the distance between Ginko and Shinkuro had between themselves as a professional within their trades.
Ginko as an information trader had carved a handsome position in the trade which was a great difference with Shinkuro.
Shinkuro asks if Ginko was successful in her in trade.
Ginko with sarcasm in her voice answers back if it looked as if she had spare time.
The difference in the amount of jobs each other was handling was also a tale told sign of the distance in success amongst each other. With envy, Shinkuro stares at Ginko when Ginko asks back annoyed with the conversation what is bugging Shinkuro?
“Ginko, have you ever considered your future?” shinkuro burps out.
Not understanding the nature of the question Ginko asks back, where Shinkuro pretends as if it was just an innocent question repeating the question again.
Ginko takes off her glasses as she silently considers closing her eyes, glasses that she rarely takes off except in front of her parents and Shinkuro. Shinkuro thinks to himself that Ginko uses her glasses as a mental guard to keep away people from stepping in too close.
As she opens her eyes and puts on her glasses again she speaks out in a firm voice, “I can easily see your future, Shinkuro.”
“What’s that?” Shinkuro asks back.
Ginko tells Shinkuro in a calm tone that he’ll most definitely end up as a bum on the streets few years down the road re-examining his present situation.
Shinkuro was not able to answer back without basis to make an argument.
Ginko explains how dangerous, the low wage, and how many goes out of business each year as a dispute negotiator advises that he should consider another occupation adding that the family ramen shop will always hire him.
A dream of the past that brings back fond memory, working with Ginko at the family ramen shop, for an instance he considers that option but stops in mid-through thinking it was impossible for him not knowing the reason why.
“That difficult, huh,” answers Shinkuro as he adds that he was getting a little worried.
“It’s about time you realized the fact.” Ginko answers back.
Ginko adds with sarcasm telling Shinkuro that even he was able to look straight at the future, asking what his thoughts were.
“It’s a difficult question” answers Shinkuro, when Ginko hits Shinkuro in the head.
“Difficult is a starting point not an answer, that is the same as if you were not thinking.” Ginko fed up with Shinkuro’s indecisiveness starts preaching but stops at mid sentence when other students starts entering the class ending their conversation with Ginko returning in facing her laptop.
Shinkuro ruminates the last words, “Difficult is just the starting point meaning he is still at starting point not even able to take the first step.

Shinkuro goes through the newspaper he picked up from Ginko as he drinks soda pop waiting for Murasaki at the school gates.
The news is covered with darkened sickening news from all over the world like incident of a renowned Hollywood producer found beheaded at his residence. Known as a philanthropist, donating to various charities. Many were shocked and dismayed to the tragic incident not able to understand the purpose of the culprit.
Shinkuro speculates that it was a job of a professional rather then than a psychopath’s remembering one of Benika’s lectures that beheading is the most surest way to kill since there is no way medically to resuscitate once beheaded.
He then catches a glimpse of an article written about present day reckless youth not planning ahead stating that they have no worries of the future without any substance to support their words. Shinkuro overlaps his present situation with the teenagers introduced within the article with no savings, have no define hope in his present occupation and no constructive counter plans to render the problems. As Ginko said he could easily see himself as a bum wandering the streets five years from now.
He is still tempted by Lucy’s offer, he will be introduced to a job periodically, involved in big cases necessary in polishing his skills and, obtaining precious experience working with a big organization like Akuu Shokai. He can always turn down jobs that goes against his principles. Lucy insured him that, then what is the hesitation, Shinkuro asks himself.
He looks into his watch, as he switches his thoughts and throws away the newspaper and soda bottle as Shinkuro notices other people gathering to the school gates for the similar reason, as he sees a group of lower class children with their bright new school bags.
Within the crowd he finds a girl standing out in the crowd with elegant long hair and a bright new name tag written “First grader Class one Kuhoin Murasaki”.
As she waves to her classmates’ good-bye she notices Shinkuro waiting for her at the gates and runs towards him and jumps into his chest.
“Shinkuro, Words of appreciations for picking me up.”
“The pleasure is mine.” Answers Shinkuro.
Some stares from a distance out of curiosity, as if they were observing an endangered species, thinking to themselves why a sibling of the Kuhoins commutes to a normal public school but apart from the doubtful parents, Murasaki had no problem blending in with the other classmates.
“Shinkuro, look at this.” Murasaki tells Shinkuro as she hands him a piece of paper. It was a test sheet written 100 points in red with teacher’s comments.
“Wow looks as if you aced this test” answers Shinkuro as he pats Murasaki on her head.
Shinkuro knows all of her scores since she had shown him all of her test sheets whether it be good or bad as if she wanted Shinkuro to know everything about herself.
“Let’s head home, Shinkuro” exclaims Murasaki as she takes Shinkuro’s hand and leads the way.
How many times has it been since the first time Shinkuro had taken the time to pick Murasaki up from school. He had shown up whenever time forgives and even cut homeroom notification after normal classes which Ginko does not approve, but he consider them trivial wanting to use his time that he consider precious.
“How’s school?” asks Shinkuro.
“Interesting!” as Murasaki nods her head passionately. She now understands elementary school social rules and follows them unlike her first encounter.
Everything new to her, as she is influenced by her schoolmates, Murasaki looked as if she is energetic then ever.
Shinkuro then asks Murasaki if there is any trouble at the mansion, knowing that life is pleasant hearing from Murasaki life is at home. When caught off guard that Murasaki is disturbed, Shinkuro thinks to himself that he will needs to rush in and grab Renjo if need be to change whatever is disturbing Murasaki, when Murasaki continues that everyone is treating her well at the mansion but she is disturbed by one thing. That Shinkuro is not at her side.”
Shinkuro asks back not understanding full what she had said the first time, where Murasaki repeats herself that she is disturbed because Shinkuro is not at her side at all times.” She then adds that that cannot be helped and grips her hand firmly into Shinkuro’s and looks ups and tells Shinkuro that seeing him as he picks her up at school is enough to comfort her.
Shinkuro lost of words in how to reply., when Murasaki changes the subject telling Shinkuro that she had received a strange letter from a fellow classmate named Nakamura saying that he wants to go steady with her. Murasaki adds that she does not understand the meaning and asks Shinkuro for advise.
Shinkuro thinks to himself that there are challengers even at such young age and tells Murasaki to be nice to Nakamura when she sees him next.
Still not understanding the whole letter ordeal replies I will to Shinkuro trusting his words.
A love letter at the age of seven, huh,,, Shinkuro laughs to himself.
As they go through the arcade buying Octopus balls as snack, Shinkuro asks Murasaki if she have any trouble with lessons at school and offers her a hand.
Murasaki answers back that the girls at class saw an interesting video at the beginning of the second semester that she had missed.
Shinkuro curious asks what kind of video, where Murasaki answers back that it was about sex education.
Murasaki continues that listening from her classmates that they had utilized dolls and it had contained some shocking images but nobody was ready to teach her the details.
“Shinkuro, if possible can you provide me with supplementary classes so I understand what my classmates are talking about?” asks Murasaki innocently.
Shinkuro not knowing how to respond tells Murasaki that she maybe better off if she asks Yuuno but Murasaki insists that she wants to hear it from Shinkuro.
Shinkuro hastily tells Murasaki that that is impossible for him adding that it is taught differently between boys and girls.
Murasaki still not satisfied asks how different, Shinkuro now caught in a corner.
Shinkuro not knowing the answer asks himself how different is it?
Shinkuro remembers asking Ginko during that time only to be shunned off as being obscene.
“Shinkuro, if you can’t help I might as well ask Tamaki for ,,”
Shinkuro hearing Murasaki’s alternative hastily stops her knowing the damage that may happen, accepts her request making a mental note that he must go to library to pick up some educational book concerning the subject.

I have taken extra time writing the details of this chapter since you can say it is the core theme to this book and how Shinkuro evolves.

As they finish their snack they reach the station where a man noticing the two snubs out a cigarette in front of a limousine.
“Welcome back Miss Murasaki”
Murasaki answers back in her usual style, noticing the cigarette snubs on the street, adding not to leave them behind.
“I am sorry my lady.” Answers the man as he crouches down to pick them up.
Shinkuro apologize to the man for being late adding that they have take a detour.
The man tells Shinkuro not to worry, that that is his job.
The man is Kiba Daisaku, second in command of Kuhoin private gaurds. Dressed in a soft black suit not carrying a gun with deep-panned voice, some white showing in his hair and an eyepatch, he looks as if he stepped out of a Yakuza movie.
Kiba opens the door for Murasaki as her guard and chauffer.
As Murasaki steps in Shinkuro waves his hand saying good-bye to Murasaki when Murasaki tells Shinkuro to hop in.
“You’re heading home to Samidare-so aren’t you, I will give you a lift.”
Shinkuro tries to decline when Murasaki orders Kiba to drop by to Samidare-so before heading home in which Kiba replies with a bow.
Shinkuro again starts apologizing to Kiba for the extra trouble when Murasaki breaks in telling Shinkuro that there is no trouble since she says so asking Kiba to comply.
Kiba again bows deeply towards Murasaki, Shinkuro feels admiration towards his professional attitude even to a child of Murasaki’s age which could well be his grand child.
“If possible can you drop me off at another place then, I was planning on visiting the Hozuki residence.”
“Yuuno’s house, huh.” Murasaki shrugs as she mutters out to herself.
Shinkuro tells Murasaki that he had promised Yuuno that he will visit the Hozuki residence couple times a week for awhile, hiding the fact that he still has sequelae using the horn, with numbness left in his right arm and that Yuuno sternly told Shinkuro that he needs rehabilitation.
“If it is a promise then that can not be helped. I TRUST you, Shinkuro.” Murasaki responds as she urges Shinkuro to sit beside her in the back.
As the car pulls out, as Shinkuro looks at the inside of the car with it’s bulletproof armor, his mind wanders telling himself that he has nothing more to offer to this child. She is content with new friends, going to school normally, living at the mansion where everyone is treating her nicely and being escorted to and from school. He feels a little left behind but if she is happy then he is content with that.
As the scenery outside the window moves by Shinkuro engages conversation with Kiba complementing his driving asking if it is difficult driving with one eye, when Murasaki suddenly speaks out that it was crushed by Jyuzawa Benika
Shinkuro whispers to Murasaki where she gained that information where she again speaks out loud with no consideration, that she asked Kiba the first time they met.
Kiba tells Shinkuro not to worry since he considers it as an honour, returning alive after a duel with Jyuzawa Benika. Kiba seemed vauntingly as he talked about it.
As the car stops caught in traffic, Murasaki asks Shinkuro to pass her the suitcase under his seat.
Shinkuro pulls it out and opens the lid where he finds an evening dress. Murasaki tells Shinkuro that she must attend a party as member of the Kuhoins invited as a guest to greet VIPs.
“Murasaki, if you had something important you could have said so and I would have taken you straight to,,,” but before Shinkuro finishes his sentence Murasaki tells Shinkuro not to worry that she considers spending time with Shinkuro more important then anything.
Shinkuro was lost in words when Murasaki starts taking off her clothes to change but was giving off grunts as she was having a hard time taking off her shirt.
Shinkuro snickers watching Murasaki and lends a hand telling her to raise her hands above her head as he pulls off her shirt and folds it as he put its away.
As changes into the evening dress Murasaki pulls out two panties and ask which is Shinkuro prefers.
Shinkuro disregards the question and tells Murasaki to wear whichever she wants but Murasaki insists which. Shinkuro a little embarrassed tells Murasaki the white one, where Murasaki answers back, “So this is Shinkuro’s taste, I must keep it in mind.”
Shinkuro just tells her to forget it and put it on.
As Shinkuro gives the finishing touch buttoning up, Murasaki asks Shinkuro if something was bothering him.
“Why do you ask?” replies Shinkuro, where Murasaki answers back that he seemed a little tired and tells him that she will be more than happy to listen and give advise if possible.
Shinkuro feeling pathetic being sympathized by a child, he smiles wry as he start opening up to Murasaki that he does not know what to do.
He thinks to himself what help is it going to be discussing it to a child but on the other hand he feels helpless in front of her.
As Murasaki folds her arms in front of her she nods once and answers back “Not know what to do also means that you are able to do anything.”
“Do anything?”
“Yes Shinkuro, do whatever you want.”
Shinkuro was lost in words told so easily of the truth. Her words were simple and pure but had strength to it, which easily entered his heart without resistance.
“Can do whatever I want, eh?”
Murasaki finishes changes and asks Shinkuro how she looked.
Shinkuro replies she looks very cute like a princess.
“Oh, I forgot, Shinkuro can I ask you a favor.”
“A favor?” replies Shinkuro.
Murasaki asks Shinkuro if he knows of parent’s day where a family member comes to observe class, Shinkuro nods and Murasaki continues that she was called to the faculty office where her teacher asked if her parents would be participating.
A normal student of her age would have answered that she will ask her parents but Murasaki in her unique position answers right away that they will not be attending.
“And what do you ask me to do, Murasaki?” asks Shinkuro where Murasaki replies
“I want you to come, Shinkuro.”
“ME?” Shinkuro answers a little stunned.
“Can’t you?” with eyes beseeching his consent. Shinkuro wonders if she is using her expression intentionally, as he gives up telling her he will attend knowing it won’tbe much of an effort.
Murasaki asking if it is a promise, confirming his answer childishly.
“I promise.” replies Shinkuro which brightens Murasaki’s eyes and adds that she will introduce Shinkuro to her friends as her fiancée.
Shinkuro asks her if she can refrain from that.

By the way does everyone want a quick summary of the book because I can write one if that is what you want.

Is Murasaki's and Shinkuro's relationship that different to that shown in the anime? I always thought of their relationship as that of a father and his daughter.
