So they are introducing the Death Busters properly now. Pretty obvious who that is under the mask at this rate as well. Honestly, I hope they make the fights better because so far, that has been underwhelming.

In the meantime, Happy Birthday to Rei!

Completely forgot that it was Rei's birthday yesterday. I had just been thinking it was in April, but couldn't remember the date. Oh, well.

As for this episode, I liked it. I had completely forgotten that Uranus kisses Sailor Moon. Looks like they reached into Act 29 for that to give the episode closure rather than have a cliff-hanger. And speaking of Act 29... I think that means that, if the manga is followed as closely as it has been, we'll get to see Haruka looking her best next episode. My favorite outfit for her:
Spoiler:

Yay!

I don't like the Death Busters antagonists, just feels like they are really uninteresting.

Neptune and Uranus takes the stage at the end. The violin play was nice I guess coming from Michiru. For some reason, I got a slight Shigatsu feel from this week's episode with the violin play and also Chibi-usa's new friend who is going through her own troubles.

Haruka looked even better than I'd hoped in her female attire.

Yeah, I preferred that they were around longer and developed a bit in S. Their one-and-done treatment in the manga and Crystal so far makes things feel rushed.

Villains are definitely not the Sailor Moon manga's, and by extension, SMC's, strong point.

With their unique character designs, they're interesting to look at, but besides a few villains (Galaxia and Prince Diamond comes to mind) the majority were very one-note, with little personality and almost zero character development. The 90's anime on the other hand, did a great job giving personalities to the villains, so it can be kinda painful to now watch what was once an interesting and quirky villain (Mimette is actually a great example; even if she wasn't a "deep" character or a redeemable one, she definitely had a personality in the old anime) become a monster-of-the week villain.

Still, I knew that coming into SMC, so I'm okay with it, because I wasn't expecting this to be a rehash of the 90's anime.

Admittedly it's super disappointing with these witches compared to the original anime. Their deaths were also a lot more impactful. I remember how Mimiette died last time to this day. Plus, I loved the mini-arc with Mina back then.

This isn't bad, but just different. I suppose it's partly following the manga, but also the lack of episodes.

It's actually *really* following the manga. Almost shot-for-shot animated version, with various things filling in the time (like the transformations).

A bunch of times so far in Crystal I've had to go back to the manga, where I say, "Oh, wow, that did happen in the manga... same exact angle, same exact orientation of the characters, same exact background..."

Episode 5:

The Death Busters are still a rather boring cast of antagonists to watch imo. The interesting part is Setsuna's appearance at the end.

Also, this week's episode was one of the few times that I'm glad they showed the transformation scenes for the two new sailor scouts this season.

So, we get to see how powerful Uranus can be. Neptune's use of her violin as a weapon was... unexpected.

Interesting how there was a new ending this week. I prefer the Haruka/Michiru one.

And, finally... Yay! More Pluto!

Also the opening was singed by a different singer.

I was beginning to think Diana couldn't talk

Anyway, this was actually a pretty good episode all around. Sure didn't expect Ami pulling such a stunt, and we actually got some decent romance too. And Pluto did catch me off guard.

Apparently, its Galaxia's VA.

Especially since she could summon a band to accompany her. ;p

In the show's defense, the Death Buster in this episode (as well as the two remaining members) only had one episode each in the original anime as well.

That said, the fact that the Witches 5 are boring to some people in the new anime is a clear example of the benefits that the original anime had over the manga (and Crystal): with the anime being weekly (compared to the monthly release of the manga), it did a better job of fleshing out the personalities of the henchmen of the season's main baddie.

Also, if you think the treatment of the Witches 5 is disappointing,
Spoiler for SuperS:

Oh, wow. I didn't even notice because I skipped over it.

Yeah, I do recall in S how they spent a lot of time on Eudial and Mimette and then rushed through Viluy, Tellu, and Cyprine/Ptilol.

I also liked how in R
Spoiler for Sailor Moon R:

While trying to stay coherent on that fact we finally got to see Uranus and Neptune transform, I'll admit Death Busters overall are kinda bland save for Kaolinite. But they were used a lot more in the original series obviously, I do miss the running WITCHES 5 door gag

I liked the other ED too.

I wasn't expecting much out of Witches 5 anyways. I'm waiting for the next boss to show up as I was expecting 2- 3 levels of bosses.

I thought that the Witches 5 was also a social commentary about too much emphasis on talent and education as social stepping stones in society. Heroes are for the most part in public school. Villains in an ultra private school on expensive reclaimed land.

I doubt there is too much social commentary going on here. Usagi and friends live in centre of Tokyo, in extremely fashionable Azabu-Jūban next to Roppongi. Usagi family lives in detached house there which would set you back probably 10 million bucks to buy.

Hmm... what Haruka was wearing was somewhat different than what she wore in the manga. I like this version a lot.

Usagi turning ashen when Ami mentioned supplementary classes was pure gold.

And... Setsuna! Soooooo pretty. I loved the scene where Chibi-Usa sees Setsuna walking on the opposite side of the street. Her outfit was so pretty.
