Like what always happened in the past 5000 years in China during the periods of dynastic succession.

I hate it when history repeats itself.

I can. But can I read Chinese at the level used by Chinese scholars? Well...

Let's just say that, in Singapore, Chinese students approach the Chinese language the same way Japanese students approach English: It's just for passing exams. In fact, had it not been for anime, rekindling as it did my interest in Han characters, I might have completely lost touch with my "mother tongue" years ago.

English is, in fact, my first language and that has several implications. For a start, it means I think in English. Secondly, it means I know far more about English literature and Western philosophy than I do of Chinese culture. I may be only first-generation Singaporean, with extended family in Hong Kong and Guangdong, but China the country is almost as alien to me as to most Westerners.

Well, you might want to try this website : http://www.mitbbs.com/

It is quite popular among the Chinese oversea students, and people do discuss everything freely. However, the users comes in all sorts of fashions, there are quite some info, and also quite some false info. But surely you can determine what to believe or not believe.

But sometimes you need to know some words to be able to tell who is who. For example, can you tell who these people are (all Chinese leaders/politicians).

太祖 太宗 三工 月月鸟 不厚

And a very hard one 真人

Well... their TOP priority is to kick Obama out of office (directly from the Senate GOP leader McConnell and amplified by almost every GOP member and operative as well as the robber barons, Wall Street, the Koch Brothers -- and heck, the Illuminati ). That supersedes national infrastructure, jobs, foreign policy, the safety of the free world, etc.

The inevitable result of ideocrats and purity is that eventually the pack of idiots are led by idiots.

I can't see the State Department releasing those materials into the public domain. I could see officials from State testifying in a closed-door session or meeting personally with committee members and briefing them on the subject. Demands like this are merely an election-year publicity stunt designed to suggest the Obama Administration is somehow up to no good behind closed doors regardless of the complex diplomatic situation posed by the Bo/Wang case. Usually these arguments are part of the "soft on Communism" rhetoric that the American right has thrown at Democrats for decades.

Born in Havana herself, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has strong ties to the very right-wing Cuban-American community whose politics date back to the days of the Cuban Revolution and the Cold War. Unfortunately she accumulated enough seniority to become Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee after the Republicans won the House in 2010.

I do give her credit for being the first Republican to support the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (under which the Federal government only accepts heterosexual marriage as a basis for legal or benefit claims even if a homosexual couple is legally married under state law like here in Massachusetts). That was probably a difficult position to rationalize with her conservative Catholic base. However, politically-active Cuban-Americans put opposition to the Castro regime above most other policy concerns, and Ms. Ros-Lehtinen has nothing to worry about on that score.

As a example of how wacky right-wing Republican House members from Florida can be, there's no better example than Ros-Lehtinen's colleague Alan West. Just last week West claimed that he "heard" some "78 to 81" Democrats in the House were affiliated with the Communist Party. The House members in question belong to the left-leaning Progressive Caucus within the Democratic Party. Outrageous assertions like these created the term "McCarthyism" based on similar assertions of Communist influence by Senator Joseph McCarthy during the early 1950's. The Communist Party of the USA has a miniscule membership these days and could only dream of exerting the kind of influence Congressman West claims.

Comedian Stephen Colbert may have discovered the real reason for these Members supposed love affair with the CPUSA.

Yes. Instead of going to 01/01/2013, we'll be going to 13/01/2012 (American orientation, not European). Or for conspiracy theorists: zmong Mayans were right, no 2013!

Well China is still ruled by the Communist Party, so yeah... there are still a lot of totalitarian practices in place.
Also relevant is that the guy who just got ousted, Bo Xilai, was an active promoter of "Mao-style" communist teaching.
