Dragon Quest V: NA release date announced.

The lack of general Dragon Quest threads in this forum is somewhat amusing.

Anyway, SE just announced today that the release date forDragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride for Nintendo DS, will be on February 17, 2009.

The Officia Site isn't up yet, but it will be in the following weeks.

Wow, interesting that no one made a single reply to this thread.
I love this game - personally my favorite DQ. Played it when it first came out.
Gema and that dragon's tower still gives me trauma. ><

I guess Dragon Quest isn't that popular in the NA market?
Probably not enough flash and a bit tedious, plus the constant money problems you'll run into especially if you're not good in spending, turns people off?

From SE's first half FY2008 results

Updated totals for some of their games.

As you can see DQIV wasn't that well received compared to Europe (and obviously Japan), and Peroyasha you are probably right about that.

Remakes of these old games can lose impact it originally had, but I still highly recommend the Dragon Quest series 4, 5 and 6 to anyone.

Most of the Dragon Quest games were never translated in the first place. So it's not a surprise that they don't get much of a buzz.

That's exactly, while a contradiction, the problem.

Previously unreleased games in both America and Europe, with graphics improved on a big userbase platform like the DS, and the people is still not interested on them.

Unfortunately DQ is still a Japan succesfully huge in Japan only.

Actually, wasn't it only 5 and 6 that never got released in English?

To be honest, DQ is the epitome of JRPG... emphasis on the J.

As for Dragon Quest V itself... Remember, who does Kagamin support?

And if anybody doesn't choose her, I'd personally find out where you live and delete your save file the moment you choose another girl.

Oh, you are right, but I totally didn't remember it. Well actually I never played.
The game came out on 1992, I didn't have a NES anymore, I was already on the SNES, so that's probably why the reason I never played it. And you know, as a kid, you don't get too many choices

This is great news. I never played the original version of the game, so I'm really looking forward to the U.S. release. Plus, I really like the Dragon Quest games. One of my favorite RPG series out there.

II, III and IV were released in the US? I didn't know that. However, in Europe only the first Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest 8 were released.

Yes, in America:

-Dragon Warrior 1, 2, 3, 4 were released on the NES.
-Dragon Warrior 7 for the PS1.
-Dragon Warrior 1+2 and 3 were re-released on the GBC.
-Dragon Quest 8 on PS2.
-Dragon Quest 4 for DS.

In Europe:

-Dragon Quest 8 on PS2.
-Dragon Quest 4 for DS.

There was no DW/DQ 1 in Europe.
