While I am not sure how far they intend to take Sana's growing affection for Shingo, personally I would be a bit surprised if it developed to the point where we get the "swings in the rain" scene. While I absolutely loved the part Sana played in the story and her character growth, I am not sure if it works outside of Miu's route. It wasn't just that Shingo was in love with someone else, it being Miu was just as, if not more, important contribution towards Sana pushing herself to the side.

I think we can all agree that the anime is going towards Airi's ending, which means Shingo won't be falling in love with Miu. Which brings the question, would Sana sacrifice her own feelings for Airi in the same way she did for Miu ? I find that thought a bit hard to swallow, because she isn't nearly as close to Airi. I can't really picture her throwing in the towel for Airi's sake from the get go, so I don't think we will see her feelings developed to the same spilling-over point as they were in Miu's route.

Though granted, they could still get to the "swing in the rain" scene in another way, by having Sana confess to Shingo (since Miu wouldn't be a bottleneck for her this time) and him eventually turning her down. Which could be followed by the rain scene (with maybe switching Airi out for Miu as the one who comes to comfort her?). Would also give Shingo the catalyst to think about whom he actually has feelings for and propell the show in to the final stretch.

...or not. Hrm, possibilities ...

This episode combined parts of 3 stories together. Ange's story is temporary on hold, while this episode mostly focuses alot on Miu's story on the group saving the club by finding enough members to make it official. Like Mahou said the anime did combine the bath scene with Airi into her joining the club, while it was slightly a more surpise that she would become the final club member.
I liked the rivalry between Ange and Sakuno at the beginning and it reminded me of a certain sdcg

Oddly enough Sana's drawing in the anime is much worse than what she drew in the psp game. (i don't think we get to see the posters in the pc game, but i am not sure on that one.)


edit: guessing from next week preview, i don't think that the anime will go too much further with Miu's story and we might to get to see the start of Sakuno's story

I slightly disliked the way how the anime did the beginning of Miu's story. The part with the club and posters focused a bit more on Sana in the game. I think it was a wasted opportunity to make Sana look more like a main heroine than a side character. Example the part where shingo burned his hand to save the poster, the only present at that moment was Sana and not the whole group and it was Sana who treated Shingo's hand, not Miu. That scene pretty much showed that Sana is nicer than that she seems .
This is shown again later in the Sana route, when she treated Shingo's hand when he got hurt again by wrapping his hand using her ribbon.

The Pannya poster in your second picture is the same in the PC version After playing a good part into Miu's storyline I also noticed that the anime pushed the club-shut down as fast as possible as opposed to Miu's initial rejection of an "aggressive" recruitment option. It was a bit unfortunate that they took out the comedy/embarrasing effect of the bath sharing at the end, but I can see that it was left out due to the Nukobu progress.
It was a positive surprise in the VN that Miu has quite a similar (gentle) mindset to Shingo, hence her reason why she invited him to the club. "It's fine if he only helps taking care of the animals." Another great part was the thoughtfulness of Rena and Hayato of both Shingo for the latter and the club for the former.

As for future episodes: I shouldn't rush through the VN(s) so much because I cannot remember the sunset scene with Sakuno from the preview. Anyway, as much as I like Sakuno I hope that not too much of her route will be implemented, if at all. Her route was plastered with too much uneasiness which felt slow-progressing at some points for my taste despite that I know why it was done.
Once the anime is back to Airi, I would love to see *the* key moment that was mentioned before when she - despite trying to - couldn't endure the conversation with her mother and runs to Shingo afterwards. It's not only a powerful moment, but will also answer why Airi decided to live like she has been doing up to now.

As expected, this episode was about Sana, because of the title about the swing. Also i was right that this episode was not the swing at the rain scene, but swing scene at the end of the club.
Though it seems a little slower than usual, this episode was meant to develop Sana. In the game she was a little underdeveloped character wise at this point because she was not a main heroine.
Eventhough nothing too much happens now (except starting to like Shingo), it's building up for the next episode when see the stray kittens: Miu and Shingo.
So i think next week will be about Miu.

edit: they kept the scene when people was rumouring about Sana and Shingo thanks to blabbermouth Ange

another edit: i think i sensed some jealousy from Sakuno when when Shingo asked what he should wear when going on a "date" with Miu at the beginning of the episode.

At the end of this episode the closest character to shingo seems to be Sana and Airi. 0_0'

edit: after rewatching this episode again, i am pretty sure that i don't see a cameo this week. *pokes myself for missing a cameo last week*
edit: oddly enough i didn't think the gossip/rumour scene would be intact, because the anime is further ahead with Airi than in the game. I do find it odd that Airi did not get jealous or something, seeing that their relation is better in the anime. In the game Airi was just a friend in Miu's story, so it's not a problem for her to spread the gossip. But here i find it a little odd.

Anyway, the only mystery at this point to me is how they're going to transition out of Miu's route if indeed they're going to at all. The ominous red sunset scene at the very end, along with the way they're aligning Airi and Sana (both of whom now have feelings for Shingo that may very well end up going unrequitted) and the presence of the Miu & Shingo cats... if we're not heading down Miu's route, they're going to have to pull quite a twist to direct Shingo back towards Airi. Perhaps most telling of all is Shingo's reactions towards Miu, as I commented in the main anime thread. When you also consider the fact that Miu's mom is in the OP, and the growing focus on Pannya and the club... So anyway, if I were taking bets after this episode, I'd say Miu's ending.

I think there are two important things here:

1. I think Airi, like the rest of the cast, detected Sana's feelings before either Sana or Shingo did. She did show a little bit of jealousy, but I think she's willing to step back to give Sana a chance... though she recognizes (in the second sunset scene) that she's heading for heartbreak.

2. I don't think Airi is yet willing to admit that her own feelings for Shingo are romantic quite yet, despite all indications to the contrary. Remember even in her route, it took quite the push for Airi to realize the implication of her feelings.

All in all, I don't see any signs of an "anime original take" for Sana -- so far, this is canon Miu's route for all intents and purposes, I think.

So far everything has been canon with the Miu route with the exception of adding Airi in that scene. I don't think the anime creators won't use it or else it would not have made too much sense of adding it. Especially with the slight ominous red coloured swing scene thanks to the sunset at the end.

By "adding Airi in that scene" do you mean when she saw them at the second swing scene? If so, I guess there's nothing precluding this from having happened in the original game either, even though they didn't tell us. We know how the final swing scene is going to go (if it's canon) so it makes sense for them to establish the alignment between the two characters now (given that there's already limited time remaining). In other words, given the development we already saw with Airi, and the development we're seeing now with Sana, it could actually make the final swing scene that much more powerful.

The problem of the final swing scene was pointed out by Skyfall. If Shingo does not eventually go for Miu, will Sana will sacrifice her own happiness for the girl that Shingo will end up with? Because i also doubt Sana will do that for someone else besides Miu,the chance of the that swing scene seems a little slimmer than i originally thought. But the anime does suggest that there will be such a scene... which is getting confusing. Oh well let's wait what the anime will do.

I agree that i am curious how the anime will handle the way how Shingo will exit Miu's story. Because there are only 5 episodes left and so far all of the storie progress seems to be stuck in the middle, while we haven't even started Sakuno's story yet. I am also doubting to see much of Amaha Yuiko due to the time constraints ...

edit: 4 episodes left to handle Miu, Sana, (maybe?)Ange and Sakuno, because Airi is getting either the last episode or if the anime does somehow not go for her (which i doubt) atleast she gets an entire episode.


edit:All the talk about swings made me almost forgot about the little cats in the next episode and their symbolic meaning for the relations between Miu, Shingo and Sana in the game and it also lead to the rainy swing scene....

They did well to focus on the "more important" parts of Miu's and Sana's character development. I wished that the anime showed the dialogue between Hayato and Miu of why she invited Shingo to the club as it would have underlined the comfortability Miu has around him better.
From the preview, it's obvious that the journey into her route will reach another very important part with Cat-Miu and Cat-Shingo . I'm generally slow at picking hints up, but even I managed to see the picture with Sana's bias over cat-Shingo and the "hints" or implications that were following afterwards *lol* on Miu's route.

Anyway, I don't really mind if Shingo ends up with Miu or Airi in the anime as long as they can avoid any cliché drama-bitterness between the non-selected girl. Sana is the exception as her bitterness was directly connected to ShingoxMiu. I found it interesting that each route in the VN focused IMHO on a different perspective. Airi's route put - for me - more emphasis on the growing romance between Shingo and her, at least after Sakuno indirectly spelled it out for them whereas Miu's route felt like the romance was more of a sub-element (not in a negative way!) and the Pannya + Nukobu as the main focus. Maybe I thought so because her route was longer.

I hope the anime stays away from peeking into Sakuno's route. For me her route contained somehow so much awkwardness that it might not fit within the "healing anime" theme. Again, mostly my personal bias.

By the way, one thing I just noticed -- the "Miu meets Pannya" scene is represented. This is the doorway to Miu's path in the game, as it's after Shingo hears this story that he decides to embrace Miu and confess to her. Now, it's possible that they could change this scene so that Shingo hugs her but doesn't confess. If Sana were to catch them embracing, they could re-sequence this to be the misunderstanding that causes her "rain swing" scene. But if Shingo doesn't confess here they could still find some way to head out of Miu's route. And actually, Shingo's first visit to Miu's house happens before this scene, so that could be the opportunity to bring Miu's mother into the story (since she is in the OP). But again, it's hard to imagine the value in bringing her into the story randomly if we're not ultimately going to continue down that route because then you'd never see her again... But basically, all this to say that we should have a pretty clear answer about this anime's path by next episode, with of course the possibility that they could do something completely unexpected.

Even if she has a small cameo in the next episode, they could add her in another way for later.Because she and Sena Ranka have known eachother for quite some time. So who knows, she might even meet up with Ranka again when we are somewhere in the Airi story.

Aye, agreed - what comes after the Pannya-flashback should be a good indication of where the anime is heading in terms of romance. Actually, I find it quite refreshing to feel myself uncertain about the ending. For the longest time I thought it was Airi or bust, but the events of episode 7, and the preview, is making me re-evaluate said stance. On one hand I still believe Airi to be a very real possibility, but the constant Miu tease is getting harder to ignore.

As I wrote in the episode thread, looking back on the past 7 episodes, I actually can't find anything to indicate Shingo having romantic inclinations towards Airi. In contrast, one doesn't have to look very far to find blushing and awkwardness around Miu. Airi has been getting the lion's share of screentime indeed (though in reflection, one could almost argue it was out of necessity given that she was the first hurdle that needed to be "cleared" to allow the story to reach its intended format), but she certainly hasn't caught Shingo's eye in the way Miu has.

Then there is the fact they are treading fairly deeply in to Miu's route, a good deal deeper than I assumed they would. And the upcoming encounter with Miu's mother, someone who has always puzzled me for being in the OP, as it doesn't make much sense to include her outside of Miu's route. If they actually include the kittens as well, I will break something if it doesn't end up going the way of Miu

So ... yeah. I think I was so focused on the idea that Airi was definitely going to be the romance interest that I stopped actually thinking and accepted that as foregone conclusion. This episode managed to re-engage my gray matter though, and I find said previous confidence to be, perhaps, premature.

Suffice to say, I still think it can ultimately go either way, but they have certainly done more teasing towards Miu on the romance front. As things stand now, I think Miu's romance would be notably more easy to accept for me. Or rather, given all the teasing for Miu and none for Airi, I think I would be a bit upset if that wasn't the case. The following episode (or two) should be very interesting indeed.

From the preview, I think they will also show the scene where Miu falls asleep in the clubroom and Shingo decides to stay there until she wakes up at some point late in the evening. Airi has been a fantastic character in the VN, both as the main girl and her impressive supporting role in each other routes. So for me it would be a shame to not use this potential.

Besides Sana, there were no actual love dramas between the characters in the game. So it's possible that the anime won't do it. Eventhough it's possible that Shingo goes for Airi at the end, i don't mind a Miu or even a Sana ending

Argh... if you want me to rant about something, just get me talking about how people didn't pick up on what was going on in Canvas 2. Suffice it to say people just didn't catch all the hints the first time. The other members of the cast (who kept telegraphing what was going to happen) were more observant than the audience, who (like the protagonist) generally only saw what they wanted to see. I think if you take the time to watch the show (and I'd say it's worth it), you'll probably be able to see what they missed.

If the anime does indeed end up following the Miu path, I am sure that some people will make a similar claim here, but the signs were all there from the very start. That isn't to say it's impossible that they could return to an Airi path, but Shingo's infatuation with Miu was always more obvious than whatever he may feel towards Airi -- he had a "crush" on her from the start and, as Skyfall said in the other thread, who can blame him? But that doesn't mean that he automatically has to "give in" to his infatuation, so to speak, since the bond he has with Airi is arguably stronger. Basically, he needs a "push", and in the game, the story of how Miu met Pannya was that push. In Airi's route, the "push" happened as they dealt further with Airi's interactions with her mother -- which, interestingly, the anime hasn't touched on at all (yet?). As much as we had a lot of Airi "signs" (most of them were in the common route in the game, minus the bath scene), they haven't yet taken the steps needed to develop her character to the next level (but they're setting up the parallel between her and Sana, and Sana will certainly be rejected). So yeah, it all depends on what happens in the next episode or two.


Incidentally, they're not just hinting towards the cats -- they showed the stray cat box, and Sakuno called out "Shingo! Shingo! Miu! Miu!". So yeah, it's definitely coming. Unless the preview is lying to us.

It actually happened quite late in the game. So the plot will rush a bit if we get to that so fast. Also before that scene happened, Shingo has already met Yuiko twice in the game. Eventhough the first time he met her coincidently at the town, the 2nd time was in Miu's house.

I was wrong that it would create a drama for Airi and Sana, that scene was probably meant for this scene later on.

You guys mentioned it was actually Sana who bandaged Shingo's hand the first time around. Does this lower the impact of Sana's attention to the hand from episode 7? I don't recall anyone else specifying that.

Or perhaps it was a ploy to shift attention, but also have the same effect of showing concern?

Nevermind, adjustment or not, seems like some main point accuracy is retained without having conflict of mutually exclusive routes. That's pretty good thus far.

Looking at ep 7 again, did Shingo inquire Sakuno about what to wear for the Kagami Mall date in the game (if it even happened)? Or was the "do the usual" response synonymous with how in ep 2 Sakuno said to be usual and it'll be okay (instead of being like flustered or out of comfort zone or ... fabricated possibly?)


On a completely different note I read a spoiler on Miu's explanation of asking Shingo to join. Unless it is explained earlier, wouldn't Manglobe want to address this since Shingo did clearly point out said question before? (On a random note, did Shingo's "outside lunch" and "walk in town at night" lead to Miu encounters in the game? If so, man that's convenient ... even the club discovery seemed like that too.)

It's amazing how a multitude of things could spawn in upcoming episodes. You think about the key points that are repeated and emphasized, and yet there's numerous subtle behavior too.

Yeah, as you said, the key point here was her showing concern for him. Doing it the way they did in the anime made the most sense given that they had everyone in the scene, so Miu's the most logical choice. But the key point was that Sana was concerned about him and his injury, which is contrary to the image she wants to portray.

Sakuno doesn't have too much more of a role in the Miu or Sana's route than we see in the anime, I'd say. Even in Airi's route, she has a few key scenes, but she's not a constant presence either.

The "do the usual" in Episode 7 was definitely not the same as in Episode 2. She's a bit annoyed that Shingo's going a date with Miu, so it's sort of like "don't ask me for advice for your date". A bit of mild jealousy. I don't remember off-hand if this happened in the game or not (but the "date" itself definitely did).

The reason Miu asked Shingo to join will probably come in the next episode, I'd say. Episode 7 was focused primarily on Sana's feelings for Shingo, and Episode 8 looks to be more about Shingo and Miu. The anime is actually being a bit smart by playing things close to the chest at this point, since it keeps people guessing at what route they're following.

In the game, it was Pannya that led Shingo to meet Miu the first time, but it was still outdoors during lunch, so it's mostly the same except they integrated Miu a bit more strongly into the on-going plot in the anime. The city encounter happened too, but in a different context -- it was during the day, and Sakuno was with him. The Sana switch also didn't happen in that scene. There were other encounters with Miu at her job at night later, so they just kind of meshed a whole bunch of scenes together for that one.

@part 1: Yup, in the game Sana bandaged his hand because she was - I think - the only around at that time. It also served to show that she's not as mean and man-hating towards Shingo as it seems.

@second spoiler: Sakuno's role in Miu's route was mainly to become a member of the Nukobu. Since she becomes best friends with Airi, her most important roles are on her own route and Airi's. Shingo did ask her what to wear for his "date" with Miu because he trusted her taste of clothes more than his own, but the result wasn't really worth it . As for Miu, I think the only random encounter outside of school with her was when he found her doing her part-time job. Yes, the anime didn't mention her reason for inviting Shingo, but maybe it's enough to show her being comfortable around him. Though the reason why she invited him and the reason Shingo decided to finally join the club are different .

I'm not really good with in-depth discussions and "meta"-analyzes so I must leave it with this.

Yesterday i finally got my hands on all of the released Mashiro iro Symphony mangas. I have no idea if i should have posted this in the anime section or the game section, but i decided to post it here so that i can share my opinion about the stories without making myself too vague by mentioning the story differences from the game.

Spoiler for opinion and spoilers for Mashiro iro Symphony mangas:

The first manga follows Airi's story but there were lots of things cut. The entire story was done in just 2 tankobon: the first 1 was from the start to the supermarket scene and the 2nd one kinda rushed through the of Airi's plot. They did keep the core of Airi's story though, but the story ended a little earlier. Because the manga ended after the resolution of Airi with her mother in an altered way.
The art was disappointedly simple compared to the game (and even the anime, but the manga was published way before the anime), but it still worked for me.

This manga was rushed, because they tried to fit the Airi route in such a limited ammount of pages. Some things got removed and some events have been altered to fit to the story.
The first "volume" felt alright, because it took it's time building up the settings and Airi. The slower pacing led to the supermarket scene at the end.
The problem of the 2nd one was that the manga did not build the relation with Shingo and Airi up enough to lead to the conclusion with Airi and her mother in the 2nd half.

The 2nd manga "Winds of Silk" starred Sana. Because it was published slightly before the psp game, it does not follow the psp route. Instead it somewhat follows the Miu part of the story combined with it own elements. Also this manga was written from the perspective of Sana, unlike the first manga it was done from Shingo's point of view. It starts out from the point when shingo was not a member of the Nukobu to the rainy swing scene (with the 2 stray cats scene taking up the later half of the story). But it changed the ending of that scene completely for a happier ending.
Art: eventhough it's done by the same artist of the first manga (still simplistic), but the characters did look better (Shingo looks completely different in this manga than the previous one though O_o)
Overall i liked this manga more than the first manga because this story seemed to feel less cut than the Airi's story. Seeing that the Sana part of the story in the Miu route is alot shorter than the entire Airi route. The nice touches were some of the manga orginal additions that helped build up the relation with Sana and Shingo and i especially liked the sweeter ending. Too bad that this manga was even shorter by being 1 tankobon.

Twinkle moon should be released in a few months and i have read 2 chapters from the compace that i did manage to buy. So far i like it , because it's about Yutsuki and it somewhat follows her story from the game. Just like Winds of Silk, it will be also 1 tankobon.

edit: for those who want to get spoiled at the biggest change of Winds of Silk compared to the VN, i made a photo using my smartphone (scanner is broken)

Who is the publisher (Japan) ? I think I will go to look for it at Kinokumiya sometime.
