I liked the story a lot. I wish they had gotten more into it, but I guess that was so we could spend more time with Pacifica and her friends. Ef - A Tale of Memories is next! I'm excited.

check out Steins Gate, it's got a little bit of everything and you really fall in love with the characters and their quirks.

I really really enjoyed ef - A Tale of Memories, and I went on to finish Melodies. Melodies I found even more moving, maybe just because I knew the setting and some of the characters already. Wow, so great. I'm not sure what I should follow this up with. Hmm..

PS - Sorry about the spoiler, I didn't even realize it. Deikan, I watched Angel Beats and loved the music and characters especially. I enjoyed it quite a bit. =)
Obelisk, I assume you're a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh? How come you haven't recommended it at all? Do you like it for different reasons?

Actually, I’m a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! manga if I must say specifically. The manga basically tell the story of Yami Yugi who is searching for his identity and pretty much focusing on that. Do you know why I don’t really like the anime? That’s coz there are too much fillers and bad ones at that. Those fillers pretty much wrecks the essence of the original story and defines the nature of the anime quite well, which is not more than an advertisement for Konami (or whoever producing the toys) to sell more Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. In short, Yu-Gi-Oh! anime turns the focus of the story from a lost spirit fighting in search for his identity and found friendship along the way (like in the manga), into just one big card-battle-driven anime. Do you know that in the manga, the card battles was only mainly used in 2 arcs? while the anime can’t live without card battles. Sigh.....

Of course, it's not all bad for the anime. I actually quite fond of the anime's take on the story's technical department. For example, they change the duel board from just an ordinary table into one big holographic machine and the folded duel disk too. I also quite enjoy the theme songs and background soundtracks. Oh yeah, the voice actors are also excellent too.

So, is Yu-Gi-Oh! moving? Yeah, pretty much. The friendship theme get really touching sometimes. In the anime, the effects kinda reduced a little due to the not-so-good animation, but it still there. Just make sure you skip the filler arcs of the neverending card battles .

By "moving" the OP probably means "emotionally powerful". But they're *also* asking for a story that's "continuous", as in not too episodic.

Just in case:
When you decide to start reading Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, keep in mind that you might get turned off by the artwork of the earlier chapters. The artwork starts to get better when the manga reach Volume 6 (not chapter 6). Also, the story in earlier chapters is a little bit episodic before it becomes one continuous story.

I'll give more suggestions :

Solty Rei : It's a show that I watched in Arabic dub three years ago. I liked the story a lot : it's about a man named Roy who mysteriously meets a girl named Solty, but she has dark secrets that are connected to him. The format is continuous and the story itself is very dark with emotionnal moments. The first half is rather lighthearted, but the second half becomes depressing. Enjoy if you can !

Claymore : Another show with many emotionnal moments and lot of action, and I'm sure it has continuous format.

Thank you everyone! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me about something I may enjoy. I just watched Crest of the Stars, and I loved every minute of it. I'm going to go on to Crest of the Stars - Birth, and then Banner 1,2,3. I think Usagi Drop after that, by popular demand.

PS, I already watched Claymore and liked it quite a bit.

When you finish Crest of the Stars (and its sequel Banner of the Stars) and Usagi Drops, which new titles do you start with ?

I was thinking of one of the older series mentioned before, like GTO, The Twelve Kingdoms, or Fushigi Yuugi.

Well GTO and Twelve Kingdoms are radically different shows given that the first is a comedy and the second a drama. If those three are your options, then I would vote for Twelve Kingdoms, but only if you promise to watch through episode six. I've not seen Fushigi Yuugi, but the reviews I've read that compare it to Twelve Kingdoms give tne nod to the latter. From my reading of the summary of Fushigi Yuugi at Wikipedia (may be spoilers), it sounds nowhere near as epic as Youko's story in Twelve Kingdoms. That show is probably still in my top-ten after many years.

Be warned that the series has an unsatisfying ending. The first main story ends at episode 39. They intended to continue the saga but halted production when the novelist became ill. They released an abbreviated and incomplete six-episode version of the next story in the series of Kingdoms novels, based on the material they had animated. It's still worth watching because the world of the Kingdoms is a rich one.

Although GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) has great comedic events, the best aspects of the show are its life lessons and drama. It is an overall great show that leaves a lasting impression.

Yes, Twelve Kingdoms is awesome story telling, with an ending that makes you yearn for more. But alas, it was enjoyable for what was available.

As for Fushigi Yuugi, I (personal opinion only) would not rank it at the same level as Twelve Kingdoms. It was entertaining in its own respect, but more of my female friends were praising it than the guy friends. However, if you do end up watching it and liking it, then I would recommend Saiunkoku Monogatari afterwards. It has a similar feel, and is very entertaining. Again, female fans tend to like it more than male fans, from my experience.

I'm male, and Saiunkoku Monogatari ranks in my top-tier of shows as well. Kuwashima Houko sparkles as Shurrei, one of my favorite performances by one of my favorite seiyuu.
