Hmmmm, okay, I'll bite. I've been burned on these remake/adaptions/sequels before (stupid Terminator Salvation...), but as long as it's good enough for me to enjoy with my brain turned off, I can give it a pass.

I found the dialogues (mostly by the main characters) in Pacific Rim cheesy as hell and facepalm-worthy. So if Robocop has enough meat (read: action & story) and the dialogues aren’t as bad as Pacific Rim, I’m cool with it.

Also, awesome shootouts. XD And have some Hocus Pocus, with 100% less Maddox, Robocop and EM-208s:

^Damn the original Robocop was the modernday Jesus.
Just saw the movie, it wasn't half bad, it has it's good moments and bad ones. They focused on the script where a man literally becomes a cyborg. Nothing spoiled here from me, but fact is that the first 2 movies are WAY better. Is it me or was I just watching Metal Gear Rising sequel to Raiden's cyborg body origin...I dunno. lol

^ I agree fully, I was pretty suprised at how well it turned out. I had my nit picks and hatred of the black paint job, and actually would have liked a black alex murphy instead.
The acting was good, the CGI looked good (Most of the time), the story was okay, the family wasn't needed and the bad guy was pretty ... there was no real bad guy. The 0 blood was pretty stupid... but one scene did make up for that. O_o 7/10

Watched it the other day...a solid movie in its own right, the acting was actually very good (Gary Oldman totally nailed it) and the plot was driving enough, albeit predictable. I think it's being trashed over just because it is a remake that "looks nothing like the original"...and because the family drama was worthless :P
6.7/10 is a pretty good assessment of it, I daresay. |

As the starter of this thread, I have to come around and say, OK it was not as bad as I thought it could be. (Coming in with low expectations helps) I love the 80s Robocop better than this, but to say, within the context of today's story telling and world, its put Robocop in the real 21st century and gave it a decent pacing.
The story was predictable, the enemies not particularly threatening. Michael Keaton and Patrick Garrow are no Ronny Cox and Kirkwood Smith respectively. Kudos to keeping Basel Poledouris Robocop theme. The suit was more threatening than I thought they could make it. CGI helps a lot of course. The combat sequences were a bit too fast leading to fairly bloodless deaths, better suited to this more agile reiteration but the original was just a tank: Slow, brutal, efficient and bloody (PG-13 vs R) Overall I give it a 6.5-7/10. All around an entertaining popcorn flick. One of many movies to see this year... |
