I love Sato but I feel ambivalent toward Okada, so I'm not sure how this will turn out. Will definitely watch in any case.
Great news. I can't even remember the last time Kawamori wrote/directed something good (Escaflowne, I think). Better for him to stick to what he does best: designing mechs.

Why the heck is this anime not being made. xD But in regards to this anime I'll watch it, if only for people's reactions to the show, and the possible crazy explosion we could get. |

Ohhh, just realized something. Could this anime project be somehow related to this?

Well, I just finished the first ch of the manga... It certainly does seem an odd series to pair up with those three big names.
To be honest at the moment I cannot even formulate a possible rough sketch of what it would be like. Unfortunately I have never really been a big fan of mecha, so designs and such are not a big deal for me...

Which I could understand in and of itself, and could even understand with Okada and Kawamori in terms of precedent. But throwing Satou in there and the Psycho-pass setting vibes I got just make me go all

It certainly is strange to us all, but since Satou is one of the original writer for the manga (assuming this really is Mortal Metal), I'm kinda re-imagining him as an anti-Urobuchi: he makes all these healing, heartwarming series and he wants to go into something depressing.

Huh. This is an interesting surprise, with an interesting crew attached to boot .
I'm ambivalent towards an Okada original work, especially one that's Mecha, but Satou as director is enticing and, while I certainly don't share the negative opinion regarding his writing, Kawamori on mecha design is also quite nice . I'll be sure to check this out .

Satou and Okada's past collaborations have been pure adaptations - Sketch Book was the one I was familiar with but it's been pointed out that there are others. Both of them teaming up for an original work is an odd combo, even if Kawamori is only involved on the visual side. IMHO, both Satou and Okada are better with someone (or something, like a strong source material) to temper their excesses. Will the two of them fulfill that role with each other, or will their teaming up exacerbate the problem?

I'd say they're using that manga as a base for whatever this anime is. I doubt they're adapting it faithfully, seems like a short one-shot kind of thing, just with two volumes. I haven't read the manga but the reviews don't look incredible, so hopefully they're changing it up.
