I just started reading the volume 1 of the manga only yesterday because a friend recommended it, I liked the (rather moe) character designs a lot, and the story seemed to be a very interesting dark and twisted version of Alice in Wonderland, add in a bit of Holmesian stuff (the Baskervilles).
I had no idea an anime is going to be made, but seeing as Kaijura is going to do the music and me being a self-confessed fanboy of Kajiura, I might just give this a shot.  Yes, I know it's a very shallow reason, but sometimes one needs no reason to watch an anime, no? So I guess it's better than none.  The last fantasy series I saw composed by her would be Tsubasa, and while the anime (the Bee-Train version) falls flat from expectation, Kajiura fails to disappoint in the music department. Now I have to find the remaining available volumes.

I'm too spoiled lately, I personally don't think the animation look too great, because they would always put the best animated scenes on trailers, so I'll think twice about that animation through out the whole series. It looks decent, but definately not the best I seen. OST by Kajira? Thats one enough reason to watch it.

Yesterday, I had a good hunch and started to look for some information regarding this anime. I came across with something interesting...

Akira Ishida is ok, Sharon (kana) = maybe, I guess (if she using Zange's voice) but bottom line, Ayako Kawasumi will not be a good Alice!

let's see, the only one they kept from the Drama CD is Minagawa Junko for Oz, since:
Alice : Yukari Tamura --> Ayako Kawasumi Raven: Katsuyuki Konishi --> Kōsuke Toriumi Sharon: Horie Yui --> Kana Hanazawa Break: Toshihiko Seki --> Akira Ishida I wonder if they are going to keep Ryō Hirohashi as Echo (I actually liked her character and the voice Ryou Hirohashi gave her), but seeing that there's a new cast for the main roles, it wouldn't be surprising that she didn't get the role. too bad that I'm not going to listen to Yukari Tamura and Horie Yui, but it would be interesting to see how this new cast performs. I'm one who wants to see the new renditions of Alice and Sharon by Kawasumi and Hanazawa, respectively. (Sharon with a Zange voice, what a dangerous combination... XD) oh and yes, the anime is looking very good in the promotional video, especially with Kajiura's music. |

Not surprised the cast is different from the drama CD, they always are.
For those who worry about whether Kawasumi would be a good replacement for Yukarin, fear not, Kawasumi is versatile enough to do almost any role, having seen tonnes of stuff which she has voiced. In fact (I know I'll get burned by Yukarin fans for saying this ) I reckon she's far more versatile than Yukarin IMHO, who is best suited for other more "loli" characters than Alice.I'd be more horrified if Kugimiya Rie was chosen to do Alice. While she's the perfect choice to do Shana, Louise and Taiga, a bottom line needs to be drawn on where enough is enough. OTOH, this being made by XEBEC instead of JC Staff could count as a factor as well. I probably wouldn't be surprised if Kugimiya was chosen had this title been taken up by JC Staff, as Shana, ZnT and Toradora are all produced by them. |
