I'm ordering from Canada, so the exchange is even worse, I believe Horo's somewhere 'round $92 CDN now. Which is making a lot of things very unaffordable. I wish it was back in September, sure gas was more expensive, but my dollar went further on imports.

hmm.. I wonder if a discussion about today's critical economic situations and medieval trading in SaW would be concidered offtopic ^_^

Huh, somehow I can imagine Horo in modern times pretty easily... although I bet hiding her tail and ears would be more difficult.

hmm.. I wonder in how it would be in Japan, where people still tend to look a bit easier on nekomimi or that sort ^_^

Got the calendar, it's bigger than I expected.

Got the last two DVDs to complete my collection, the guidebook (fawk yeah concept arts), and the most recent Dengeki Bunko Magazine with the Season 2 info. Need to scan it all. D:

So what's in the guidebook? I remember the official website said it covered the manga and also had concept art of Horo that should look similar to the light novel illustrations. Is the concept art good? what a silly question, all art of Horo looks good right?

This is a guidebook.
http://www.spicy-wolf.com/original/guidebook.html

It is posted also on Page12 in this thread.
In the concept design, the sideburns of Horo were shorter than now.
But it was lengthened in order to hide the position of human's ear.
It is said that a flat chest is a request of all staff.

Very interesting, I prefer the long hair over the short in the concept art but I love the eyes here, it's a lot more like the light novel illustrations, pity it didn't make it to the anime.
The shorter hair makes her look a lot younger and wow on the left page did they want to give her yellow eyes?

Out of semi-curiosity, I checked wikipedia to see what they had to say about the Horo/Holo conundrum, and it's Holo. What's interesting is the epic 3 page discussion they have on the subject, which I thought I might share with you people who might contribute. Well, actually, they seem to have wrapped things up after the official site put it down "Holo". We on the Horo side of the fence might just have to accept our defeat when the official subs hit...

Yeah, we talked about Wikipedia's idiocy a year ago. Our conclusion: Wikipedia is editable by morons and said morons will undo any correction to what they personally believe is right.

Tl;dr: Wikis are a bad idea for good information. Should have never become encyclopedias.

Aye, the "lo" crowd basically won that one and not because they had the better case.... they just were more stubborn about it and it didn't help that the anime production people failed romaji....

whatever.... its *pronounced* with that odd r/l/d sound that some Westerners have so much trouble with.

well, kadokawausa carried on the "lo" nonsense with their website ... so not only is Horo -> Holo but apparently Nora -> Nola. That was nearly a year ago though... if we're lucky there's been some backdraft, but...

I grieve for the dub but then I really don't have hopes the dub will capture the essence of Lawrence and Horo's relationship well anyway.
Just hoping for a good video encode and decent subtitle translations.

Hear hear, the dub will suffer but as long as the subtitles are consistent and correct then it'll be enough for me

I don't even care for the dub, I'll just take the awesome encode off the Blu-Ray discs and slap the subs on 'em. Screw American licensees.

No, its just that if you flip a coin, a dub is less likely to be satisfying. No blame to the VAs particularly - its just the method of recording the dialog and the difference in acting training between Japan and the US/Canada. Sometimes, the dialog/translation itself can be unsatisfying to some.
