Decent chapter, liked that some of the former Jomvikings turned to pirating to make a living. Thorfinn disbanding them doesn't automatically lead to peace or in this case make the local situation more unstable with increased pirating.

Also Thorfinn using logic to dispel the notion of ragnarok was funny.

Sort of a random Flashback, but it was still a nice one. I guess it was to show what Thorfinn thinks of prophecies and to contrast him with the Shaman.

Hild made a machine that can separate the seeds from the wheat (pretty anachronistic) bug-eyes is teaching the natives the Norse language; Gurrid, Hild and Karl made some bread, Gurrid is pregnant.

And Hild forgives Thorfinn. That's unexpected. All I kept thinking during the entire chapter was "what's the catch?" but the preview text for the next chapter sounds ominous.

I have a feeling Hild might die soon because in History, The village got attack by the natives. Given how she created advance machine so early in history ether means she dies when the attack happens or have another vision saw the same future as the native did and stop building advance technology.

I kept wondering what last's month preview "Thorfinn finally becomes a true warrior" meant, since I couldn't think of any opportunity for him to prove himself in just one chapter. Well, he had actually been proving himself in the eyes of Hild for years, and one of his biggest victim forgiving him for his past deeds is what made his journey complete. It's beautiful. I'm happy for both of them.

... but the happy time won't last.

The journey both Thorfinn and Hilda made to her eventually forgiving him was simply beautiful. If only there wasn't more ominous stuff on the horizon, this could've been a sweet ending.

Natives are escalating, Thorfinn's colony lost contact with the colonists at Markland after investigating they found no colonists and lots of Natives arrows. Thorfinn gets confronted now with his pacifist approach, can you be a pacifist if you surrounded by people who want violence. Let's see how Thorfinn is going to handle this.

It doesn't look like they were killed at least. The Natives just scared them away.

We don't know what happened at Markland, some people in the colony are now feamongering warning the other colonists about the natives. Meanwhile we take a look at the natives and the old seer wants to kick out all the Norse, the rest of the tribe reject the seer's warning. The seer is now going to take matters in his own hands.

Unless the Seer meeting was a flashback it does appear that the tribe befriended Thorfinn weren't responsible for what happened at Markland.

I suppose it could be a flashback, and him taking matters into his own hands could mean going to another tribe to convince them to get rid of the invaders, leading up to what happened in Markland.

Honestly what happened after Markland you can't blame them wanting to build a wall, even though we know the local tribe is friendly to them. If only they could communicate clearly with each other every thing would be resolved.

Also for me the Russo-Ukraine war makes reading this chapter a bit awkward as the arguments seems very familiar.

Seeing how much effort Thorinn and his friends are making to uphold the peace and knowing they will inevitably fail makes it heart-wrenching.

Gudrid was about to safe the day with her speech only for the momentum to switch back to the arm-our-self faction. Luckily Thorfinn has an ace up his sleeve, inviting the Lnu natives over to talk maybe that will be enough to convince the other faction, for now.

Why are there so many more men than women? (thrice as much is a LOT) Isn't it going to be a problem at some point?

After the current chapter...the end is near because peace is over
