Oh, this is the schoolgirl that "Reborns-kun" attacked. She's half assimilated by now in this scene. I'm not sure why she is not fully though, it does seem kind of strange to leave it halfway, though she could also be being assimilated slowly.

I heard she was fine though in the epilogue. Innovators are quite resilient.

This scene takes place in one of the ESF research centers. They found this girl in this condition and are analysing her, and they found out that it's some sort of metallic lifeform that is doing it to her and that they were other cases that are happening. They noticed these incidents was happening after the Gadelaza destroyed the Europa.

IIRC, they came to the conclusion that it's an alien lifeform from the analysis and has codenamed it the ELS.

They also came to a conclusion that it's an alien lifeform, partly because such weird cases of vehicles moving on its own etc were found to be near the spots where the fragments of Europa landed. Take note : NEAR. This concludes that the metallic things must be aliens as they moved

Oh and also, if you guys wanna know minor details, this girl touched a door knob, and metallic spikes starts growing on her hand. She pulled her hand out (that's why she was bleeding), then, if I didn't remember wrongly, the ELS Reborns comes out and she screamed

So is there two types of assimilation? One where the els crystalise on it's host and destroyes it and another where it takes control of a MS but doesn't crystalise?.

I hope more details on the 00Q upgrade will appear

Once in contact with an ELS, metallic spikes starts growing on you. It doesn't matter if you are a human or a MS. But for some special reasons, the ELS "wraps" around missles and takes the form of it, no spikes can be seen.

It wasn't shown if ELS can take control of a ms though, if i could remember. I could be wrong, im only human

I actually think it assimilates and transforms into the MS, rather than simply controlling it. It seems to be a one way deal, you eat transform into it and control it.

But I do not recall merely controlling the MS without crystallising however.

I agreed LOL. And you know what else I wonder? How the heck did 00 QUN[T] managed to get flowers all over it? I mean, if it wasn't there for a loooooooooong, long time, there's no way flowers can grow on it right? =_=;

About the flowers, I think it's reasonable to assume that if Setsuna himself was ELS'ified then 00Q most probably as well. If not wholely then at least partialy, which would explain why the unit took on this form.
