Also, I noticed that none of the other series had the same popularity (i.e., not talked about as much) as the older LN series.

I assume the changes to the rankings is supposed to change the nature of the rankings from a popularity contest to a glorified must-read recommendations list. The presence of titles that haven't made a ripple compared to shows that have been blessed by mediamix is evident.
That said, I don't mind such a change, but are the newer works actually good?

Talking about the usual talk in Animesuki though.
Among the ones without an anime series that stood out for me were Infinite Dendrogram and Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun. EDIT: And I blame Kunagisa for that.

Index's ranking relies entirely on HP votes and last year it was lucky that Oregairu wasn't there to steal its votes. I'm very interested to see what the HP numbers are this year and if there was a different weighting method used. Index was first in HP votes last year and to see it drop to 10th is staggering. Normally I'd blame Oregairu but I don't see it ranked anywhere... Maybe Classroom took the votes? Kono LN ga Sugoi! looks at novels released in the October to September period each year. Index had 2 novels during this time: one meh and one amazing. But this has actually been one of Index's best years story-wise.
