Its like you didn't even read my comment or lack the foresight to see it was plain as day his squad would have died earlier if not for him.
To people comparing this to muv luv those are deviant class titans in large numbers if your gona compare em to muv luv compare em to a large class of laser and hyper laser class beta sneak attacking and bunch of rookies thats what happened here and is a much better comparison. The death count in alt was so low due to lack of laser class.

Actually, it's easy to forget the fact that this is a shounen series, and Eren acted exactly like your hotblooded shounen hero (all enthusiasm and not much sense)... Except that type of attitude doesn't exactly pan out in the world of Titans.

That's going to be pretty difficult, considering how the sub-forum is a minefield of spoilers. It's regrettable that the rules allow comparison of scenes with the manga in the anime threads. That being the case, tread carefully.

also note radio's and howetzers would extend the recon crops support for about 10 to 5 miles within titan territory Spoiler for harpoon/grappling gun:

The way Eren dies is too abrupt and while it somewhat strums your emotional strings, it's too early in the series to let things like this go. I mean, this is not Gurren Lagann here (the ultimate shounen anime I've ever seen...). I'm sure the author was going for a very realistic approach, well away from the many tropes that make a series shounen, but instead of outright ignoring them, he might be actually deconstructing them.
Indestructible protag? *snort* Character deaths not done until very late into series? *double snort* And then there's the serum Eren's father kept injecting him with. No way they'll show that and then leave people hanging as Eren gets digested. Wait a tick... it's established that the kyojin don't have reproductive organs, but what about a digestive system? I mean, with all the humans they're eating, they have to release the stuff at some point, right? |

Wow, what a gruesome way to die. It must really kill the morale of all the trainees to know that even after all their preparation, they're barely safer than ordinary citizens running by foot.
Perhaps there should be a rule saying that no manga comparisons are allowed until the subs are out?

Regardless of whether Eren's squad would have died anyway, it's still his fault that they got wiped out because of his recklessness. Eren is a flawed protagonist-- well, was anyway, and I'm okay with that. He's like the embodiment of anger and rebellion that everyone else in the series seems to lack.
I think there's a distinction to be made between a typical hotblooded shounen protagonist and Eren, given the contrast to the setting. Where everyone else has adapted to the delaying the inevitable kind of attitude in the Attack on Titan universe, Eren was quite adamant about regaining footings against the titans and regaining humanity's pride. His speech are made to be selfish on purpose-- that he would kill the titans, instead of the usual 'I must protect my friends' etc etc, despite his actions showing that the latter is just as valuable to him. In this sense, his speeches are not exactly noble or sensible (pretty sure there's a bunch of eyes rolling in the audience), but that fits perfectly well with the anger that he's representing. Yet, he has somehow inspired the people around him with his speeches. Whether or not he lives, I hope everyone else gets a little dose of his angry streak. For the sake of humanity, at least. Though some Titans do look absolutely adorable. |
