This looks pretty relaxing and kinda fun.
Kaito does really remind of Jintan.
This is probably going to be something similar to Ano Hanna.
School life + aliens? Should be interesting ^-^

Maybe it's just mistakes overlooked by the animators, but there's a calendar in one scene, and it only fits with 1977, 2018, and 2023.

I just don't know what to believe anymore

Perhaps not. I did express the immense cognitive dissonance this show sent me through. This is the sort of show I'd expect a more upbeat atmosphere for, but it's totally laid back and perhaps even sentimental in approach which is weirding the hell out of me.

Couple this with some inner monologuing at the beginning and end of the episode as if he were talking about the past and how his life was about to go through a lot of changes (Combined with the atmosphere it gives a really weird picture of show) and the show seemed like a really nasty stew.

Watched the First episode...

Can't tell if the guy is lucky or unlucky... lucky to be hugged by a naked girl that you just met, or unlucky because you're dying (or actually already dead...)

And the "Time" LOL.... confusing like crazy.
It's like the main characters and sub characters is from 1970s but the setting takes place in the 2000s....

There's something that intrigues me in your post,you seem to oppose "upbeat" and "laid back/sentimental"

While in my mind a show can definatly be all 3 at the time,I find nothing weird about that,there's quite a few shows I consider upbeat that are laid back and can get sentimental.

That was quite a premiere, I probably going to pick this show up as well. Too many good shows this season, I can't watch them all!

Don't get fooled by that groovy Single-8 camera, as far as I know Fuji are still making the film as far as March, and processing it until next year, so the setting can well be 2011 as previously mentioned. That car in the title sequence was definitely modern.

I really enjoyed that. Nagai Tatsuyuki sure does like his voiceovers. And so do I. They add this more low-key side than you'd expect from a show with an alien babe in it. Looking forward to the next episode already!

In addition, the characters' glasses and the school uniforms are very much modern. As well as pretty much absolutely everything else save for that camera.

Only one thing about this anime has left me somewhat bemused - the name. Ano Natsu de Matteru (Waiting in the Summer). Just strikes me as odd, considering it's in the Winter 2012 line-up (naturally, the season doesn't reflect what will be in the slated animes, but it sorta stuck out for me

)

Other than that, I absolutely loved the first episode. I quite like the art style (hell, the whole reason I looked at this was at felt similar to the art style of AnoHana). Yes, the colours aren't as brash and are more wishy-washy than AnoHana, but part of me thinks that is a point in it's favour.

If you think about it, the camera Kaito uses isn't all that great - and the colours would probably be just as wishy-washy. It may have been a coincidence, but the colours somewhat reflect the fact that viewing life with the naked eye is not all that different to seeing life through the lense of a camera. That's what I think - and quite frankly, I might be talking nonsense.

The fact that Ichika was actually an 'alien' surprised me somewhat - I expected a slice-of-life show, but this is a welcome surprise, to be honest.

All in all, roll on next week - I can't wait

Spoiler for Relation: In the timing of things, this series is about things happening time-wise before what happened in the Onegai Teacher series. The camera dates it to the early 1970's were the computers in Onegai Teacher dates it to 2000+. My though is, could Takatsuki Ichika be really Kazami Hatsuho (Kazami Mizuho mother)?
