From those who've enjoyed it, they told me that I sorta have to be able to identify with the characters or know people who are like that to be able to appreciate it. Guess that's where the problem lies.
Probably the reason why people dislike Lucky Star. To OT a little, is Genshiken an extreme version of Lucky Star?

I almost never give an anime the axe after just a few minutes but I watched the first 5 mins of Elfen Lied and that was enuff to send it off into Recycle Bin heaven...Really bad advice I got watching that overkill...

The first Genshiken and Genshiken 2 had it's high points, but what's often the case with shows like this they chose to stick to the manga to a default because instead of getting an anime that had a sense of how it was building it just jumps-around and progresses in a manner that makes it seem like they are just plucking various manga eps or arcs from a tree, instead of just making a strong anime based on one or two arcs...I mean Sasahara is basically introduced as the main character, then is kinda on the sidelines the whole series until Genshiken 2...On the flip side Kasukabe is basically owning S1 then she kinda just dissapears after the OVA...They rush threw the school year so fast and introduce new characters with limited backstory if any and just ignore the major characters from last season that barley got developed...Don't get me wrong I enjoyed alot of the spoofing and creatively inspired eps that got drawn in different styles, but I can see how one would be frustrated with this show...It just left you behind before you could even realize it...

Another show I just dropped after the first few eps that people seem to like is Kure-nai...It just had too much sexualizing of a minor for my taste...I don't care if it's indirect it just turned me off...And don't tell me it was all in my head, you don't draw certain scenes like they drew them an expect people not to take some of that from the show...

I'm sorry but a majority of the show's watchers got the opposite impression from that anime -- just see its thread in the Fansubbed forum. The character of Murasaki and her "nude" scenes are distinctly non-sexualized. Familial, affectionate, natural, those are the impressions I and many others who commented in that thread get.

I'm going to be cynical and say that you are probably just taken aback at a frank portrayal of a child acting like, well, a child, rather than a stereotypical loli. And there's probably a cultural barrier at work too since I think Westerners are more prudish at being naked with children compared to the Japanese and some other Asian cultures. Look at the hot springs: shared bath don't always equal a sexual attraction you know.

No I do expect a teenage or tweenage loli to act like a loli, I don't expect it from a pre-10 year old and didn't expect it here...But that's besides the point, as I said it goes from quite noticable to quite subtle but I've watched more anime than I can ever bare to get into and have seen countless episodes where children take baths with their parents or whatever and not many have turned me off like this show...As for the nude scenes being non-sexualized, I didn't mean it was overtly sexual in nature just that by default it's gonna have those overtones and I felt turned off by some of it...

Maybe it's the great animation and how crisply it's drawn that overaccentuates the characters movements, but there were too many scenes in the first 3 episodes that made me kinda cringe while watching (Which was a natural response not one filed with malice or premeditation)...I can tell from your tone I'm not the only one who has made this suggestion and your objection is fine, but I've watched too much anime, more than I can ever count, and not too many times have I been turned off by how a child character is presented...Anyone whose an animefreak to the level of posting alot on animesuki understands the evident cultural gap that has to be taken into account while watching any show like this (If not a majority of all anime) and despite that my comments stand...It wasn't any cultural diatribe that turned me off, it was some of the presentation....

Excel Saga and Serial Experiments Lain.

The former is one of the most annoying anime that I've ever seen, the latter was boring and I couldn't bring myself to like any of the characters.

Edit:

Also, browsing over the previous pages and seeing the talk of anime movies has reminded me Ghost in the Shell. GitS SAC is great, but the first movie seemed kind of forgettable to me. I never really got into it.

yeah they were all "losers" and I just felt uncomfortable and the prsident or whatever was so pathetic in oneep. it's just cringing to watch, not exactly entertaining in any way for me. I dorpped at 3, that's enough right?

for kurenai you're talking about bath scene right? that's their culture, the end.

I also don't really like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I don't hate it but I still think it's VERY overrated. Lucky Star and FLCL are also really overrated in my opinion

I don't know about FLCL, but LS is really about where you stand in the world of anime. I'm a fan, but I don't "hype" it myself. I recommend it to people who can see themselves as Kagami (My friend, whom I recommended the series to, downloaded the whole series, even as I didn't bother to.).

I was under the impression that it was about:

Shinigami's possession of death scythes must have been mentioned after I stopped watching it.
Is that really different from Naruto's "I'm going to be the best or something" goal, though?

Oh, I thought typical shounen battles ended with Ichigo Black Star the hero(ine) in some state of loss, wherafter they suddenly gain some sort of power and proceed to kick the ass of whatever or whomever just kicked theirs.

I don't like Naruto and Bleach either, but I like Code Geass because C.C.(green hair) and Tianzi(white haired loli empress) are in it

Haven't seen School Rumble, know only some gags and bare storyline of SHnY, and as for Azumanga, it sure ain't the greatest ever, even if I enjoyed myself greatly from the anime (couldn't stand the manga).

I hated Excel Saga it got such a high rating but it was beyond dumb and not funny at all to me. It tried to hard to be dumb and funny that it failed miserably and the one girl always coughing blood up not funny at all.

Let's see...

All the hentai wannabes, aka "Ikki Tousen", "To-love-ru" etc. If you wanna make porn with laughable plot, just make porn with laughable plot, don't be shy and call it Anime, it's not like there aren't 2 billions of them out there.

All the harem series. Harems are hot, don't get me wrong. But I don't find dumb chicks who drool over a spineless wimp for no logical reason attractive.

School Rumble(manga) , this one belongs to the above catergory but deserves special mention because it tried so hard to be different at the beginning, yet ends up in the exactly same mess, pathetically ironic.

Code Geass, so-so in my book but all the people running around screaming it's the bestest sh1t everz annoy me. I mean, aside from having the guts to kill off an important character, the plot is a joke, especially in R2 so far.

School Rumble for me, definitely, since basically most of my friends love it. Then I guess One Piece since I never understood the mass appeal of it either.
