Okay, let's list what we know about the "zombies" from Arc. 1:
- their bite is infectious and lethal, posthumous zombification. (Romero)
- they lumber and possess leisurely gait. A light jog is sufficient to outrun them. (Romero)
- infection is only carried out by being bitten by a zombie (pending)
- exceptionally strong, if not stronger than humans (Russo)
- they are capable of walking up stairs, but with some difficulty.
- aren't finickity about their food, eats the flesh of the living (Romero)


What else?

- to neutralize, one must destory its brain.
- decapitation is only effective in rendering it immobile, its head is still a "live" threat (pending)
- reanimation cannot occur if the brain is damaged while alive (pending)
- neither kill or attack their own kind intentionally.

That was easily my favourite scene of the first episode. I mean, it came out of nowhere and felt odd considering unlike Occult Academy, HOTD seems to be taking itself seriously to a degree so having BFFs skipping and holding hands in the midst of a zombie outbreak was unexpected comedy to me. So I don't think anyone should feel ashamed for laughing there. I actually burst out laughing again at the ED when I saw the picture of those two with "Best Friends!" written on it on the notice board .

I am still in the process of picking my favorite girl. For whatever reason, I was never able to while reading the manga.

Eh quite a few people already have said how they're looking forward to seeing her, and hope her voice fits.

Hard to show her 'love' as of yet, when we anime only viewers have seen her in the OP, and a few seconds in this first episode.

Well the VA list that was previously posted somewhere around here suggests it'll either be Sawashiro Miyuki or Kitamura Eri, and methinks both are very much qualified to voice a potential badass.

You forgot one:
- The zombies seem to be able to appear sneakily and with no warning and in great numbers. See the gang on the roof, when they got there they were alone but after the helicopters flew past and they decide to go to the observatory there are now zombies all over. Also when the BFFs kicked the other, there were no zombies near her but a second later 3 behind her. Ninja Zombies...

Anyway I'm really looking forward to how far episode two gets so we can better judge just how far the anime may get and if an anime original ending will definitely happen. Personally i think with a zombie story like this an anime original ending wouldn't be too bad.

I remember one of the teacher acted like a zombie and the zombie nearby didn't even recognize his presence.

I'm not that surprised a character only really seen in the OP hasn't gotten a ton of attention yet. Should change after the next episode.

I thought about that too. My theory is that the zombies are really picky eaters. They only like fresh food with fresh being still alive. So they eat at a victim until it dies at which point they stop being interested in it. The problem is how do they know what is alive and what is not.

Does anyone else think Rei will probably die? With the way their relation developed, I don't see a happy ending for these two. Takashi probably won't die because he's narrating.

Still too soon. This will most definitely change in the latter episodes though.
At the moment, we have yet to even hear her voice and all.

I really don't see her dying. Sure it might be a definite way to end any relationship debates . It might not be at a great place right now, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them alright by the end. Strange things can happen when thrown into such an extreme situation like this one.

I think it might tie into their unwillingness to attack each other. For whatever reason they decide to eat the living, but once they are dead they aren't living anymore and are/about to become one of them.
