The article is a hoax. I am smart but I don't think I am crazy at all.

Pictured: The UFO-shaped object found at the bottom of the Baltic Sea... covered in soot, with 'little fireplaces' and lying at the end of a 1,000ft runway

Megaroad is supposed to be launched this year, but we have only just found the SDF-1 Macross. Where is the supposed Bird Man? Where is the secret Mayan civilisation?

S.African innovator takes water out of showering

Quote:
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - With inspiration from a friend too lazy to take a shower and a few months of research on the Internet, South African university student Ludwick Marishane has won global recognition for an invention that takes the water out of bathing.

Marishane, a 22-year-old student at the University of Cape Town student invented a product called DryBath, a clear gel applied to skin that does the work of water and soap.

The invention, which won Marishane the 2011 Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award, has wide applications in Africa and other parts of the developing world where basic hygiene is lacking and hundreds of millions of people do not have regular access to water.

The product differs from the anti-bacterial hand washes by eliminating the heavy alcohol smell. It creates an odourless, biodegradable cleansing film with moisturisers.

He came up with the idea as a teenager in his poor rural home in the winter when a friend of his said bathing was too much of a bother, made all the worse by a lack of hot water.

"He was lazy and he happened to say, 'why doesn't somebody invent something that you can just put on your skin and you don't have to bathe'," said Marishane.

It was his "eureka" moment.

He then used his web-enabled mobile phone to search through Google and Wikipedia in pursuit of a formula. Six months later, he came up with DryBath and a obtained a patent.

The product is now manufactured commercially with clients including major global airlines for use on long-haul flights and governments for its soldiers in the field.

Marishane also sees it helping conserve water in the poorest parts of the world.

"DryBath will go a long way in helping communities".

Could mirror universes or parallel worlds account for dark matter — the 'missing' matter in the Universe?

Supercameras Could Capture Never-Before-Seen Detail

"A supercamera that can take gigapixel pictures — that's 1,000 megapixels — has
now been unveiled.

Researchers say these supercameras could have military, commercial and civilian
applications, and that handheld gigapixel cameras may one day be possible.

The gigapixel camera uses 98 identical microcameras in unison, each armed with its
own set of optics and a 14-megapixel sensor. These microcameras, in turn, all peer
through a single large spherical lens to collectively see the scene the system aims to
capture. Since the optics of the microcameras are small, they are relatively easy and
cheap to fabricate."

Considering the insanity of data size, transmission bottle neck, and slew of other issues, I can't really see much commercial usage of such camera... but military usage potential is limitless.

In the Very Basic Science department, a happy summer's solstice to everyone.

At my latitude (Oregon), we got 15hrs41min of daylight. In six months at yuletide, we'll get a mere 8hrs42min of dimly lit sky.

Yes, it's an actual functioning cybersecurity suite using GUI like THAT.... Ghost In The Shell comparisons really are quite apt

Science Daily: Proximity of New Planets Stuns Even Astronomers

"We've never known of planets like this," said Yale University astronomer Sarbani Basu, a member of the research team that analyzed the system. "If you were on the smaller planet looking up, the larger planet would seem more than twice the size of Earth's full moon. It would be jaw-dropping."
