I noticed quite a few. I remember one on episode 6 where Kuroi Sensei was drinking alcohol and she drunk it exactly like Misato Katsuragi from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Oh! Also I spotted one that (I cannot remember what episode it was, the one where Tsukasa first gets her phone), when Tsukasa's mobile phone goes off in the lesson, not only is the ring tone the Evangelion movies ending theme (also a real song by Pachebel), but also Kuroi sensei was teaching the exact same history lesson as the one that another teacher teaches from Code Geass about Elizabeth the II of England.

Actually...... that drinking style is a common japanese trait seen in real life as well.

It can also be seen in Azumanga Daioh and even in Tsukikage Ran. The other refs seem okay.

No, Misato had a unique way of doing it, and when Kuroi done it I straight away knew that it was exactly the same as hers!

I have seen all the Azumanga Daioh's and would have probably noticed if it was an exact reference. Also remember how popular Neon Genesis Evangelion is. I think that it was most likely a reference from that.

That is my opinion anyway, so don't blame me if I am wrong! ^^;

The anime series clearly has many locations that are based off of real-life places in Japan. You can see this in the opening scene as well, It shows them walking through Akihabara I think?
Alot of series have real-life location references, like Negima with Kyoto, but Lucky Star shows reference as well.

There was also a Death Note reference when Konata was doing her homework. Forgot which episode though.

Konata: *doing her homework*
People: ARRGGGHHH!!! *getting heart attacks*

Satte, Saitama
Washimiya, Saitama
Kasukabe, Saitama

And the well known Washinomiya Shrine.

Izumi Konata's house is real. The Hiiragi household is actually there too. T'is quite amazing. I really, really want to go and see them one day. I would love to see Konata's house! Haha.

What I'm actually wondering is how the owners of those houses settled with KyoAni in being used like this, because it generates a massive amount of creepy camaramen. (If this has been answered before, link please)

I have a few guesses, such as KyoAni actually owning the properties, KyoAni employees living there, the tenants getting a huge cut of royalties for enduring the publicity, or just nothing, to which I'd probably call unfair.

Interesting. Are there any GPS to check out these places on MapQuest? I'm sure those properties are related to KA in some way. Maybe the residents ought cosplay the characters on their birthdays!

I think that the residents of those houses would only cosplay if they -really- liked the show. Otherwise, they'd just be welcoming some more creepy attention from the already abundant fans.

I'm glad that the shrine found a way to cash in on it all though. Only in Japan.

The Hiiragi and Izumi houses were already real and genuine houses before the anime even existed. They are just actual real houses in famous Japanese streets. Their school is also actually there in the same place as the anime too.

Konata's house resides in Satte in Saitama. The Hiiragi's in Washimiya which is also in Saitama, and the school also in Saitama in Kasukabe.

In a magazine their were maps and instructions on how to get to these places. Yes, these places had many, many people taking huge pilgrimiges to each of the locales, which should have been expecting. The Washinomiya Shrine being the biggest attraction of them all.

Yes, I'm quite aware of that. They had an event this past December where fans made a trip to Washinomiya shrine, right? Kagami Yoshimizu and the seiyuu for Kagami, Tsukasa, Akira, and Minoru were there. That's something I wish I could've gone to. '-'

The view of a house from a public street doesn't "belong" to the residents of it ..... (despite what some litigious people might wish). If I snap a picture of a house I like from a public location -- I owe the residents nothing. But like anything there's a fuzzy line --- if I snap a picture with a telephoto through their window then I've probably violated some privacy law depending on the locale.

I suppose there's a microscopic chance that some delusional otaku might trespass but then... that's a crime as well

Frankly, when I see people taking pictures of my house (usually real estate agents) - I amble over to say hello and ask what the scoop is. I'd be amused to discover my house was "famous" because of a movie or anime.

Uh...did I say somewhere that the view of a house from the street belonged to someone? Or are you just furthering discussion?

If it were me I'd probably get uncomfortable with it after a while. Especially if people loitered or something. I know that not everyone would be like that though.

But you know, they MUST'VE picked those houses out for a reason! I find it difficult to believe they were just plucked out of a hat! Maybe the residences of a writer, an artist or director or producer or KA's janitor or something. Another thing I'd love to see is how accurately ultra-oaktus are in mapping out the floor plan of the homes based on the anime as against the real house (after seeing how Trekkies have recreated whole Enterprise bedrooms and the bridge down to the millimeter, I'm certain SOMEONE out there has recreated Kona's bedroom!). Also, aren't the twins residing near a temple/shrine or even in a compound of such? Wonder if that'd show up in a Google aerial of the site!

We were kinda just discussing the fact that the Hiiragis live on the premises of Washinomiya Shrine, where their father is the priest. (Does anyone know if he's the head priest or just a priest?) The shrine's a reasonably big one, and there's already been an organized otaku pilgrimage to it. There's no need to do an aerial search, it's easy to find photos. Read about it to find out how Lucky Star has invaded the place.

Was it Yoshimizu who designated Konata's address, or was it KyoAni?

Sorry, just furthering discussion - since there were several posts from other folks who had odd ideas about the "legality" or the "rights" of the people who own the home that a public street view was used for in the series.

As far as the shrine goes.... though its obviously the Washinomiya Shrine - the temple is never named in the series or the 4-koma. As far as I can tell, japanese seem okay with a marvelous fictional universe closely parallel to their own. I'm almost surprised the shrine didn't select a couple of appropriate miko to cosplay the twins for a few extra bucks -- may the looting of happy otaku commence for the good of the shrine

Didn't Katou Emiri and Fukuhara Kaori give a guided tour of the shrine as the Hiiragi twins? That would've been so cool.

I know I've seen photos of them dressed as miko, but unsure of the context.

Is that a tactful way of saying ripping-off deserving desecrating fanatics?

I'm surprised that hasn't occurred to them, being they seem pretty shameless about how they've been promoting themselves on L*S's tail. They ought throw an open house (shrine?) to miko everywhere for the job, but imagine being on the select committee! Hey, I just thought of a new TV show! "American Miko" about a devout young lady circulating America on foot spreading the Shinto Word 'tween chopping agnostic heads... ! Hey, if it can work for ninjas!...

Well, sure must be, since I'm looking at screenshots of the Hiiragis home which looks like it's on a regular residential block, not in a shrine's compound or sanctuary, unless the place is simply outside of but owned by the shrine. You hardly see any pics of the real shrine inside the property anyway! Those pics would leave you thinking that that store and tourist center IS the shrine!

My brother chimes in; if Kona and the twins really live that close to another, why don't they ever take the same train home from school at least? At most they must only be a local bus ride apart, right? (to those in the know about Tokyo). Oversight or flub?

It would, only -- now I respect voice actors, I really do, but ironically I kind of doubt they'd be the best ones to personify the characters in and out since it's more job than passion to (most of?) them I suppose. Now, on my visit to New York last year in Greenwich Village (you NYC folks help me out here!) was this pop comic book supermarket ("SciFi Shoppe" or something?) that sponsors a "super-date" (not escort!) service where you can "date" a (American) superhero or comic book character of your choice (played by a deep-steeped fanatic of that character) out to dinner at any participating restaurant. The actors never go out of character and it got positive write ups in some NYC papers and you have to make reservations weeks in advance. I gotta whether Denver's come around to having one. Don't know if they do anime tho'. Anyway, speaking of best character fidelity posing, I wonder, have they ever held any "Beyond Cosplay" contests over there for the best portrayal of Kagami or Konata or any anime characters, like how transgender pageants in Thailand pop up fem-fidelity winners that'd give any Miss America a tough run for the money?

I thought that they did take the same train home. They've shown them on the train together multiple times, minus Miyuki who lives in Tokyo.

I live in NYC, and you spelled Greenwich Village right, if that's what you mean. We've got lots of comic and scifi stores downtown, so I couldn't help you there. I never did hear of that event though.

If it were me, I would much rather get a chance to meet the seiyuu. They are the ones who played a large role in bringing the characters to life. They worked on the set, they read the scripts, got the inside info, and pulled a little bit of that character out of themselves to create the voices. I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd rather meet the actor or the seiyuu than a really good cosplayer. As a fan, I would much sooner flock to an event to see someone who voiced my favorite character (as I am for Otakon this year), than to see someone who's such a big fan that they can act like the character really well. It's not as much of a novelty. From a basic fans' perspective, having Katou Emiri and Fukuhara Kaori give the tour as their characters was the right thing to do.

Now if only one of them would come visit over here....
