And Noizi Itou has really done some great work with the character designs for this P.A Works series. Akazawa looks like a formidable twintailed "head of countermeasures" and yet she is beautiful too and I could see her being one of the popular kids. Mei's design is also really good too. You can sense there is a element of danger to her, but yet she has a certain vulnerable "moe"ness to her too. My original ranking was a 8.5, but I have rounded it up to 9 because it really did set the tone for an intriguing mystery amidst the creepiness that is pretty apparent in this series. General Thoughts:
Very impressed. Good character designs (if a little cookie cutter), and I loved the school uniforms (specifically the pinwheel logo). Great sets and wonderful scenery - the general disarray of the school is quite beautiful (rusted fences, ill-kept gardens, etc)). It's no secret that I am a sucker for a good mystery or a good story set in a small town, so I am doubly a sucker for a small town mystery () and Another seems very intriguing (just by the first episode) and suitably creepy (but not over the top: the creepiness is based around establishing a moody atmosphere through relevant music and presentation along with slight shifts in characters dispositions (ex: a noticeable flinch, or a minor sweat drop, etc). I'm going to fast track this series (for now) and watch it as it is released (as opposed to marathoning as I usually do). 8.5/10 Extra details: Hate the OP (not the visual, just the song and the group), but love the ED. BGM was spot on (with, what sounds like, real strings and not just computerized music). |
