Ichigo Mashimaro, another favorite series of mine, is getting a second OVA, and it is nowhere near as popular as Lucky Star.
Unless certain higher-ups simply decide EH NO MORE LUCKY STAR THANKS & GOODBYE, we'll see more material. It'll probably be a while, though. |

"Popular" is a wispy word. OVAs depend more on how much in the way of profit has been accrued and how much more profit they might expect. So a series with the right fans in Japan (with big pocketbooks) may get more attention than a fan outside of Japan might expect. Ichigo Masimaro fans are more numerous than one might think -- they're just not quite so loud. Lucky Star was "bigger than expected" because of vectors from many directions (KyoAni, Comiket, injection of industry and anime references, crossover Haruhi buzz, voice actress choice, etc) that helped what was basically a pleasant little Japanese form of "Peanuts" (daily lives of a group of diverse students in 4 panel comedy) turn from a moderate success to being almost the mascot team for an industry.

For some reason, I always want to think that the currently-released OVA's are all part of one package, which is probably because I downloaded them all from one torrent. But yeah, I mostly just meant that there's another one on the way.
And all that is nice, but it doesn't really change the fact that Lucky Star is still more widely popular than Ichigo Mashimaro, which is all I said in the first place. It doesn't really matter which started with more potential. |

More KyoAni brilliance. Some absolutely wonderful character design and animation. The people in the dog sequences were wonderfully well animated. The game was good. Kagamiku was one for the ages.
Maybe I wasn't as thrilled as I was by the series, but I did have a silly smile on my face much of the time, and that can't be bad. Voice-acting by Katou Emiri (Kagami) and Hirano Aya (Konata) was just outstanding. And it was good to hear Sasaki Nozomi again (early burbling voice). Give that woman more work! I noticed that there were several people credited as the episode director (usually there is only one), so I suspect they had different people manage different parts of the show. That would explain the somewhat inconsistent feeling of the various sequences. And I noticed that one of the first genga (key animators) mentioned was Gotou Keiji, the director of Kiddy Grade, Uta-Kata, and Gigantic Formula. He also did similar work on some episodes of Kure-nai. I don't know whether this has been mentioned earlier, but there was a huge warning screen that said all the things one shouldn't do with the show, like reproducing or redistributing, and "translating" was included in the list. But I don't think that will stop people. As for this show coming out a day early, maybe it's the same as CDs, where the CD is apparently in the bigger stores the day before its official release date.

Sounds like from what I'm hearing people should get what is to be expected from the Lucky Star OVA. If they liked the TV Series then they should like the OVA, but if it wasn't their thing then the OVA will probably do little to change their mind about the franchise. Can't wait to get around to blogging it.

I... I see . Now I understand Tsukasa reaction, but I am surprised such an innocent character as her would have think about something like that. Or maybe she was just thinking about the "mecha-meaning", that would explain why she wanted to call Konata... Anyway, poor Kagami .
Thanks herbert! ^-^

Of course. We all do. But it's only been out for a few days. You can't expect fansubs to pop up instantly, you know. A 40-minute OVA propably requires like, a minimum of 20 hours of work if you want it to be done properly, and it's not like they can do all that in one go.

Just finished the chinese sub. Damn the parodies are packed in this one!
-Loved the MiWIKI bit. -Real life LC was brilliant! You can hear that the filming crew were barely able to hold themselves together. The Keroro part was pure nightmare fuel though... |
