Would be too good to be true.
Another one I can think of is in the first Ringo ep they follow her until she takes a picture of that bird nest and shows it to Tabuki. But If I am not mistaken Sho is shown the bird nest too.

This has been on my mind for a while, but has anyone asked Ikuhara why he's come back after so long to make this? I mean, he said he was retiring after making Utena and would never produce another anime, so why decide to come back now?

I'm becoming convinced that Shouma might be Ringo's destined one..... O_O

Dunno, but he picked a damned good time to come back.

Cute pics. Love Ringo's cowgirl getup. Himari's forehead is...unfortunate.

He came back to save anime.

LOL I was thinking that too. But this year has actually been rather good for anime compared to other recent years. Penguindrum is like an extra sweet bonus.

Ikuhara never really went away. Sure as a director, but he still was behind a few OP's for various shows. Aoi Hana for example.

Someone needs to detach #1 from Ringo's leg in that second picture. Also, Himari looks about 8. Oh well, she's been off-model before.

Didn't he do the one for Nodame Cantabile too? Or is that just in my imagination?

Yeah. Supposedly, he also did some storyboarding on Star Driver, the Aoi Hana series itself, and a Nodame Paris OAD under pseudonyms.

The question is what caused him to back off from anime in the first place. There's a lot of speculation (which suggest that it may not have been entirely voluntary) but no concrete info.

At any rate, the Utena Remaster put him back in touch with Starchild, so maybe discussions began around that time.

Yeah, he has that rep of being hard to work with, but in an interview a few years (or a decade) back he said that producers from Toei always came to him asking for him to be involved in new projects and he repeatedly turned them down. Doesn't exactly sound like a guy who was forced out the industry.

Everyone keeps saying how poorly Ringo treats Shouma but it's not like he's putting wih all her crap without a reason. He has his own goal - getting her diary.
I'd say they're both using each other for their own ends

Probably so that people can talk about him and Utena constantly

And ultimately, he gets into stalker girl's pants. She realizes the true destiny written in the diary.

And everyone wins. XD

I'd love to see that.... but it isn't going to happen

Anyway, I already watched episode 8, and it was great, but then at the end it was extremely sad. And that's all for now. I wont' say more until the subs are out.

Not the most action packed episode so far, but certainly the one that played the most with my nerves (in a good sense).
Last 5 minutes or so, gosh, my poor heart!

Spoiler for MawaPen 08:

Funny how that episode had to air when Tokyo is on alert for typhoon too .
